Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

How do you modify it so you get an ASA from CDG-LHR? QF doesn't fly there and you can only get an ASA on QF/JQ metal.

Correction. I did get a refund when I added CDG - LHR, but that was when I was booking classic awards (before AFF taught me about MASA). I used to book my MEL - LHR return very early before the BA flights to other destinations became available. Then I would later modify the flight by adding the London to CDG and CGD to LHR. When I added this final leg, I received a refund as taxes were lower.

Something strange happening in their last days. I have had 2 quotes for Jasa BNE -SYD at 32000 + $380 instead of previous $210.
Been told that co-pay is higher as fare is now higher and cant be changed. Wasted an hour on the phone already. Almost cant be bothered to HUACA

I can understand that the co-pay for Point + Pay will increase as fare increases, but I am confused as to how this will affect mASA. I thought mASA is based on classic seats? Or do they mean the surcharge has increased?

The way the agent explained it to me was that they have 'increased the charges on ASA, including this fare bucket'. Hence, the copay was $200 instead of $110ish. Paying with all points for SYD-BNE was 40k, I don't remember it being that high.

I paid copays of about 160 mid last year and 209 in December. Recent reports in the spreadsheet are for that amount. Today's quote was $380 +32000 and is now supposedly based on the fares available at the time, not classic rates. Seems I might have had 3 operators that are not going to Tasmania.

You're welcome :)
The booking ex-LHR was approx $500 more than the equivalent SYD-MEL-LHR
Thank you all for your explanation, I had failed to take into account the extra charges when departing LHR.

A bit ironic really as we book most of our UK flights as returns from the UK. I've found that a PE return flight can be up to £1000 cheaper than the equivalent flight booked from Australia. Since we make at least one trip a year over there it is worthwhile buying our tickets this way.

Clear profiteering. There was always going to be a rush on ASAs leading up to EOFY, so when you've got more people wanting limited award seats and a fast-approaching 'Simplification Day', it's a great opportunity to get some extra cash from your most active FF program members.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Hi everyone.....

I have two questions in relation to the QFFFP rule changes

(1) I thought booking of MASA after 27th March 2014 for travel after 30 June 2014 are no longer entitle for SC earn (see new earn table: Frequent Flyer - Fairer Flying) but available for Mileage accrual (Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions). Unless there was changes made subsequent to the 27th March 2014 announcement. Please help me to clarify.

(2) Just called for one way SYD-BNE on U class, travel in Jun 2014, I was being asked for 16,000 points Plus AUD199 cash co-payment.... seems this figure is much higher than anyone else. Coz the co-payment for 16,000 min point should be around AUD100. In this regards, can anyone here help?

Thank you..... ILYTH

Yes, cash component should be $100-105.

My understanding of point 1, is that ONLY bookings made after 1 July 2014 are ineligible for SC's as mASA's are no longer available.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Had a little trouble changing a (M)JASA yesterday, with the gentleman suggesting a 3500 change fee per person, which he then revised to a $100 per person. HUCA, this time JessicaTam had much better luck.

Correct.

Bookings made after 27 (ish) March for travel after 1 July generally earn fewer points than travel before 1 July.

There is considerable anecdotal evidence suggesting that prices have been hiked of late, as was indeed the case around this time last year. So older co-payments from the spreadsheet might no longer be applicable in some cases.

It may also have (finally) dawned on them: "Hey, maybe we can actually charge more for these and people will still buy them…"

I booked a BNE-MEL-PER-BNE yesterday and the payment was within $2 of the previous one in the spreadsheet (and only a few $ more than they're slugging ilyth for SYD-BNE).

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

I was doing some calculations last night, trying to work out the cheapest way to earn my 600SCs to requalify Gold.

I have a plan on 2 of MEL-PER one ways, one for August(hurry up Mr QF WP) and one for March next year, and 2 BNE-PER MASAs, with the 148,000 approx points I have.

I hope I get a good agent, when I make the call in a few days.

Hi, I would like to book some Marginal Any Seat Awards in J class,

When for,

August, September, December & March,

say again

MEL-PER
BNE-PER
BNE-PER
PER-MEL

I will let you know how I get on, I could be on the phone for an hour or more.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Rang the normal WP number last night and started with the line, "I'd like to book an any seat award - the type that you can't book online any more".
I normally would then follow it up with, "Are you familiar with the reference Right on Q 7740?" to get it upfront that I know what I'm talking about and what I want.
The lady then immediately cut me off saying "I know exactly what you're talking about, but I need to make a call to another department" then put me on hold.
She came back a couple of mins later with "sorry about the delay, I need to find out if we can still book them because I think the end date may have passed."
I replied with "I'm pretty sure I still have until the end of this month to book them", which she responded with "I'm pretty sure too, but I need to check" (sigh).

Nineteen minutes later, I got what I wanted - two one way bookings, both fully refundable.

June 2014 | April 2015 | J | SYD-MEL-LHR | 128,000 | $758.40 + $30 cc fee | $600.02 | 197,482 | 40 + 280
June 2014 | May 2015 | J | LHR-MEL-SYD | 128,000 | $1,243.95 + $30 cc fee | £546.81 | 250,222 | 280 + 40

Ex-LHR charges are a killer ($485 difference!) That's what increased YQ, APD and Passenger service charge through LHR will cost you...

Do you think it has been the taxes, or the base fare, that has been hiked? - and when?

FWIW my SYD-MEL-LHR classic co-payment was $600.02, but when I looked in late April (~6 weeks ago) for direct SYD-LHR it was $577.18.

For the return LHR-MEL-SYD was £546.81 but again, 6 weeks ago it was £535.71 for a direct LHR-SYD....

Indirect routings seem to increase the co-pay where you had the option to go direct. Same happened with our MEL-SYD-AKL-BNE-MEL booking versus MEL-AKL-MEL.

I think the base fare has been increased. I booked a BNE-TSV rtn a few months ago (ended up cancelling it) and then booked another very recently and the Classic Award copay was $10 higher. This was reflected in my JASA copay.
