Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Yes, search for "Barossa Valley Premium Wine Tasting & Lunch" thread - sorry, I'm on my iPhone and in bed, so can't post the link now

Re: Successful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

I'm going to Dublin next year for a conference so work will pick up my flights. For +I, I booked a Jasa from Syd to Lhr (128000 QF points + $766 copayment) and bought a separate Ba Y ticket ($130) from Lhr to Dub....faced with the above high taxes ex Lhr coming back from Dublin, I booked +1 on Ey J Dub- Auh- Syd for 125000 Velocity pts and $41 in taxes!!!

Sorry for the OT post, but 128k points plus $766 versus 125k points plus $41!!! I'm not sure what adjective to use... "staggering" sounds like an understatement... Oh, well, not long to go for Qantas (at least for me)... with all the not-so-recent enhancements, I do not consider it Qantas' "fault", but more of my own "liberation", or better yet, "awakening"... so, I thank you Qantas management (and I do mean it)...

Re: Successful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

One last one to get us home before they're gone. Thanks to everyone here for showing the way so I was at least able to book a few of them.

Jun 14 | Jun 15 | J | LHR - SYD | 256,000 | $ 2381.50 (no mention of CC fee) | ? | ? | 280 (Points and co-pay for 2 SC for one)

Still can't believe the taxes coming out of LHR.

I presume this is a return trip?

Re: Successful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

"Points and co-pay for 2 SC for one" so it would be one way @ 128,000 ea.

Cool, thanks for that Jessica. These are the last few days, but this is the beef I've had with some posts here, I would have like standardised posts (details for one pax only). Not only there are so many posts for multiple pax, but also some posts that mix and match (e.g. points and $ reported for two pax but SC earn reported per passenger, or vice versa)... I'm ranting, sorry...

I have made sure it is commented on in the spreadsheet.

We does what we can.

Booked an ASA this morning for DRW - SYD MNL; CGK - SYD - BNE - DRW suprisingly easy she knew exactly what I was looking for. Went through and even though not simplest of routings was breezing through it was starting to worry that she had it wrong because of how quick she was going until we came to the CGK to Darwin leg and she said I'd have a long wait in Sydney, then I knew that she was looking at the classics as the AM flight to Darwin wasn't available in business. I asked her to put me on the earlier arrival in Darwin with was via Brisbane. She came up with the minimum points at 72,000 which is what I expected but the price at $1507 with the credit card fee I had to stop and think but eventually decided what the hell and went with it after doing some flightscanner search of what the normal business fare would be.

I'm still a little unsure about stomaching that much for an airfare for somewhere that close but think I shall keep it, the activity statement has come back with Any Seat Award booking and should return with the new scheme and platinum status 39,000 points plus at 440 status credits will give me a loyalty bonus of 8,000 points. The plan is to fly MNL - CGK via HKG premium economy with Cathay combined with another Any Seat I plan to book to Mt Isa should put me at double platinum for that 50,000 bonus.

A pretty good return for the points outlay. Any idea what the max points cost was?

I've actually spent today going backwards on the future SCs front... cancelled a NRT-SYD-CBR JASA to do a HND-HKG-NAN (AA) and NAN-AKL-MEL-CBR (QFF Classic) combo. Because life's too short.

Gets me my first trips on the new FJ A330-200 and the EK A380.

45,000 AA points and 50,000 QFF points, plus a little over $300 in cash. And from the cancellation I get back 72,000 QFF points and $440.

Unsure I never asked, I've used a substantial amount of points recently and only have 40,000 left now 24,000 of which I need for a trip to Mt Isa. So I was always going to go with the least amount of points outlay.

Plenty of time to spend them before 30 June. Because status life is too short with Qantas

June 2014 | June 2015 | J | AKL-xBNE-LAX | 84,000 | $359 | 112,000QFF & $213 | ? | 260
11 minute 'phone call - Maureen was very helpful - enthusiastic even ... :D

Classic award would have been 112K QFF points & $213.

Bundy,

I suggest the phrase "I'd like to book an any seat reward into the U fare bucket, using the minimum number of points and paying the taxes with cash / credit card" followed by "Yes that's correct, please reduce the points down to the Classic level and please let me know what the cash component is"

Marginal is not the best wording...very hit and miss...

I have booked several of these in the past few months. Very hit and miss, I agree, but I get there in the end. However, I have deliberately never used the term "MASA" (or Marginal ........) .

I describe it as an Any Seat Award (where I wish to use minimum points, in my case, and a co-payment) for which SC will be earned. While some CSRs will try to say that it can't be done anymore, those who have at least half a clue (and some have been excellent, by the way) have quickly picked up on it.

But there have been some real duds along the way. :(
