Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Phone just now; to book 3 Marginal Any Seat Awards,

Melbourne based;

they asked Classic; no; marginal any seat awards;

them; never heard of them.

me; I try again, hang up.

PM to Red Roo, as I have a name, they were friendly just weren't aware of them.

Like others have said, the term marginal hasn't been a recommended one.
You are better off asking up front about booking an ASA "that can't be booked online any more" and mention RoQ 7740 straight away.
There is no harm in not saying it straight away and has the benefit of being able to identify the problem of a CSA not knowing how to book it.
If they cannot provide the service that is the easiest part of their job, then politely HUACA or be blunt and make it clear to them that there are serious deficiencies in their skillset.

They just reprice it as a LHR-SYD-BNE, which doesn't usually add much on at all.

Look at post #3062 of this thread:
I pleaded with the agent to allocate/hold and ticket on Tuesday - she put me on hold, came back and said she couldn't. The SYD-BNE flight won't be released until Tuesday. It ticketed within the hour and I'm contented to cough up another 7,000 points or $300 to get it added later in the week.

I didn't want to wait given the P seats come and go very quickly....now that QF10 timing has changed - QF2 is the only option for people connecting.

Look at post #3062 of this thread:

My answer stands. I've done variants of the above several times. And there was an example somewhere of someone getting money back after switching from LHR-SYD to LHR-SYD-PER (which is a more accurate description than "adding PER on").

So what happened this time? I thought there was no way to get around paying for the add on leg separately?

Looking back at the changes I made for the flight over to LHR. Booked SYD-LHR x 2 in F, then changed by moving the date forward 1 week and adding BNE-SYD .... these changes cost $366.34 - $300 for date change & $66.34 for the BNE-SYD leg.

Misread the $300 as adding the leg rather than change of date.

OK, was just going by the previous report in the quoted post.

$300 for a date change? I thought the LHR JASAs/FASAs were fully flexible - no charge for a date change? I booked some JASAs recently to/from LHR and they are fully refundable....

I was told when upgrading with cash from a LHR JASA to a FASA that the terms became less flexible, and the $300 figure sounds familiar.

All I know is that I got slugged $300. Date change was 1 week ....

Looks like P ASA is classed as First Leisure

Interesting, because I could've sworn when they were available online, the LHR FASAs (and JASAs) were fully flexible. Anyway, it won't be that relevant in the near future given they will be unavailable come next month.

When did you do the cash upgrade? How much was it out of interest?

Tonights phone call went much smoother.

PER-MEL
BNE-PER
PER-MEL

I went with 40,000 points and each cost about $200 each or there abouts.

and i still have about 30,000 points left I could find another JASA but I guess I should book some real flights on both QF and VA now to fit around those flights I just booked.

I have eyed off a PE DFW-SYD-BNE for my mum that would be a nice little earner on SCs.

It was $620.00 just over a month ago to turn a MEL-LHR JASA into a FASA. I thought that was a very attractive alternative to (1) the additional 64,000 points I would have needed to book that initially and (2) the 60,000 points it would have cost me for an upgrade to F that would have still left me earning J points and SCs.

That's an excellent deal :)

Sorry for the OT but how could I resist

QF ADL - PER (one way) J (U) 36k QFF + ~$235 earning 60 SC

VA Nowhere - Nowhere (one way) 25k Transfer from AMEX to Velocity earning 100 SC ;)

A nice little kick start being offered around the same time as the demise of the MASA an earn reduction on some fares with QF.....

I was told this evening that I have to be in Melbourne tomorrow (personal/family matter, in a good way). Prices for revenue tickets are absolutely ridiculous, daylight rubbery in fact ($1400 )... So, award seat it is: QF CBR-MEL-CBR, classic in J was 32,000 points plus around $110. I booked a JASA for 32,000 plus $245.62. So, around $140 gets me 80 SCs. I can live with that (well, till the end of this month that is).

I recently booked a FASA MEL - LHR. I then asked if it was fully flexible with no change fee and was told - no -it was a Leisure First. I asked her to change it to a Fully Flex First ( which is the way it should be booked and always was in past) and she agreed. Changed to Fully flex First for no extra cost.
It is important to specifically request the most flexible type J or F ticket when booking MASAs as they can book either.

I have burnt around 500k QFF on JASA's / MASA's in the past 11 months..... ;) Perhaps I'm one of those who killed the golden goose...?

No - I think I may have been responsible - about 3,000,000 points burnt in last year, largely on FASA x 6 MEL - LHR return.
Last FASA booked for May/June 2015.

Did that cost you more in copay though?

Hmmm, when I booked I asked for fully flex including full refund if cancelled. Looking at First Leisure Bookings - Fare Types No refund for cancellation and $300 per change ... Trap for young players!

No - all I had to do was ask. In the past most of my FASA booking were automatically booked as fully flexible. This is not obvious at the time of booking, but the reason I know this is I have had to cancel and modify some of them and there was no change fee.
