Just booked my final JASA! Phone call took 7 minutes, everytime I have booked one lately they have been great, quick & know what they are doing :)

Just booked one as I figured we had some points to burn.

I quoted the magic expression. The operator responded with "Arh one of those ones" ... to which I responded "Yes, it sounds like you've done these before". Her retort was "yes I'm getting a lot of these at the moment as they can't be booked from 1st July". We then proceeded with the booking.

She even checked on conditions of change as if I'd make change post 1st July 14 what would it mean.
The answer, after she checked with a supervisor was that the determining date for terms was when the ticket was actually booked, not changed.

I've specifically asked Red Roo that, and started a thread, to no avail, thanks. Still some unanswered questions though...

I would very much like to know whether it's possible to (say) book a JASA for June 2015 and then subsequently change it to a few months later.

When I asked at the time of making a FASA booking, I was told that as of now it can be changed (for a fee) provided that there is P availability, but that changes from July 1 would price as "fare of the day", making the new ticket prohibitively expensive. The person I spoke to sounded very switched on, but I still don't feel like I have enough to go on.

Of course, with a fully refundable fare the risk isn't too great, but still...

Interesting, but the P "value" should still be close to that of a classic... if you are changing from P to F or A, then yes it would be prohibitively expensive. Makes sense that availability would be needed, but "fare of the day" pricing in theory should not be much different if it is in the same class.
Yes, as you say, it doesn't appear there is much to go on just yet...

I was told when upgrading with cash from a LHR JASA to a FASA that the terms became less flexible, and the $300 figure sounds familiar.

As an update to my previous post, I called again today - the fare basically mirrored the conditions of the full fare. So when I booked into U class, my fare was fully refundable and changeable at no cost.

I did look into a Z class premium economy fare and the cancellation/change fees for that one were $300.

Funny: Called for a JASA quote, CSR knew exactly what I wanted when I said the magic "any-seat-award in Uniform class" words but then HE ASKED ME if I knew the RoQ number! I was unprepared for that and said it wrong but he found it anyway, told me the correct number and then while he was doing the quote I heard him muttering "...marginal..." to himself! (I just need my last bonus gift voucher points from December credited to have enough for my SYD-???/???-KTA jaunt)

Don't hold your breath.

Won't cost them anything. The retailers have bought the points (so there is revenue there) and if we have flown to get the points from OW airlines, then there is ticket revenue. The additional co-payment is additional revenue. Now, they have all this money well in advance (depending on when the mASA was bought and the co-payment revenue).

Whether all that revenue would have been more (or less) than had they been able to sell the revenue seat, that's their conundrum. But going ou without seats sold is zero revenue for QF and less profit, when taking into account the overall cost of the flight.

QF also have the liability of the points on their balance sheet diminish. That's why they like points expiring - lots of revenue but an automatic reduction in liability as they are written off.

We've all been working hard to help them remain status quo - but I fear even with our valliant efforts, the liability is increasing...

After simplification day, QFF points are less attractive when linked or aligned to Status, domestically there may be some uplift to bookings to VA for people like you and me QF WP to fully utilise the family pooling of both points and status credits...

I'm sure that MASA's were costing them (QF) money, how much one can only speculate, however it was a means of increased revenue from me over the past two years which will no longer be there going forward...

Yes, shintaro10x, I won't be going out of my way to earn QFF points anymore after 1 July and those I do earn will go towards upgrades. I'll re-qual Gold from my remaining mASA's to be booked by 30 June, as well as my $1,500 in vouchers that must be used by 22 December [all mASA's and voucher flights will be flown before 28 Feb (my status year)]. So I'll have Gold until 28 June 2016 and be Silver until I get LTG (still a long way away).

It makes my decision to get a VA status match in 2011 and achieve VA Plat (and re-qualify twice) better by the day. Brett Godfrey will be bemused to find that I have turned almost 180 degrees...after being such a long term supporter of Qantas and steadfastly refusing a status match until VA had a product that overall matched QF's. Must give him a call so I can share a laugh.

I am sure many here share similar experiences like us. What was once so strong, is no longer...

I wonder if at the moment it may actually look like a windfall to QF with points coming off their books and an inflow of cash with, what I would expect, the majority of bookings happening a reasonable distance into the future. With people wanting to burn points, there may have even been accelerated earning taking place i.e advance payments on credit cards etc.

So for the next 'period' there may actually be some back slapping taking place with "see, we knew this would work out. Look at those fast bonuses we'll be paid".

It might also be realised how good a marketing tool MASA's actually are... Perhaps they might be resurrected at times where they want to increase revenue...

Regarding the back slapping.... well that might be the case short term, but long term I'm sure there will be other storms they need to weather... Perhaps yet another 3 year plan...? :p

QF resurrect anything - no, remember enhancements are exactly that.

Very true, but current Management won't be around - it'll be up to the future group to resurrect the plans to grow the airline when the economy recovers.

......and increased revenue from Mrs B and I too, flying at least monthly in J as a masa. Now instead of forking out $600 - $700 co pay we will only fork out ~ $160 co pay as we will fly J as a classic. Thats quite a few dollars in our pocket and if we are NB in a couple of years time so be it. We will still be in the J lounge and sitting up front.

My only concern is how long VA will be as attractive as it is looking post June 30.
Surely they (VA) will come back to the field a bit?
Why would they have a seriously more generous programme if they don't need it?

That is exactly what I've been thinking for the past week or so. Not only their FF program, but their offering as a whole... instead of a duopoly, we'll have 1.5-poly (I'm sure Qantas will not go away entirely anytime soon).
