Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

I booked one for a colleague a few days ago. Simple domestic point to point. The points deduction has shown on their statement as a Classic Award, I have called up 4 times since and been assured that it is definitely an ASA. Last operator said the fare code to me was UBPASR and it was definitely an ASA?
I'm getting a little bit confused what should I/colleague do?
I don't know the answer but all mine state "QANTAS & JETSTAR ANY SEAT AWARD". Worth a call to Premium desk? They can also add notes to the booking saying that it is an ASA in case there are problems later on:idea:

Does this close at midnight or 5pm this evening??
All the correspondence has mentioned dates only. I.e. The new system starts July 1, or mASAs no longer available after June 30. This leads me to believe that it would be midnight tonight AEST. Happy to be corrected.
Booked my last JASA today with the Premium desk (she has done alot today!!!):( I now have 3 "just incase" Syd-Bne-Tsv JASA intineraries in case needed for Plat requalification. Will probably cancel 1 or 2 of them. On a sadder noite, it was confirmed to me that all the Melbourne based QF staff at the Premium desk are going to made redundant with the move to Tasmania. None of the Melbourne based stuff will be relocating to Tasmania, and the Melb staff have an average of 15 years experience with QF :(

The agents I have spoken to on the premium desk in MEL implied they would be given the opportunity to move if they wanted. It is disappointing if that is not the case, as some of them would be happy to.

On the phone to QF now, call started 1;13pm. Nerran (HBA Call Centre) had not struck these before and was relieved I had the RoQ card, but even after reading (and referring to the "attached" clue card) she asked all the normal questions "can't these be done online?". So I prompted her to ask a Supervisor. She put me on hold at 1.16pm. At 1.24pm she came back and asked "is this in your name" and put me back on hold. She came back at 1.26 to say "it will cost you 30K and the booking reference is xyz123". When I asked her could I dial down the points and what was the increased co-pay, she got confused but said straight way "I'm not sure they have given me the right way of doing it." This was great, as she was willing to work with me and I am willing to put in the time to help her get it right. She put me back on hold and then came back with the magic words "I think I've got it - the next person knew what you wanted". Points reduced to 24K and co-pay $152.05 - which I accepted, so she sent it through to the Service Centre for ticketing.

The next one was therefore meant to be a breeze, MEL/BNE with the remainder of my points (39K+). As she knew what to do, she had the flights and had done the booking when her screen said "simultaneous changes made". She exclaimed straight away "no!" and sighed. Asking her what was wrong, she explained to me what that comment meant - somebody in the Service Centre had changed the booking and processed it as a Classic award. Sure enough, at that point, in came the email with eticket and it showed $45.05 as co-pay and doesn't show the magical words "Any Seat Award" in the tax information section. So she has to go back to them and get them to reverse the points, change the booking then re-debit the points.

So we parted with me saying that I want all remaining points to be used on the second booking as she goes back to change the first booking, so that she can process the second booking. I expect that I'll either see two emails and/or get a phone call from her.

Off the phone 1.44pm, so 31 minutes and still no valid JASA bookings :(

2.03pm, received a phone call from Nerran, saying it had all been fixed but they had to cancel first booking and re-issue. I'd got the second booking eticket by then and the dreaded words "Qantas AWARD| Partial payment by CUSTOMER " appears in the tax information, which I highlighted to her. She was adamant that it was an xASA, so I'll just open my QFF account and see what shows there.

2.08pm, received the second eticket (for the first booking that has been changed) and it also states the same in the tax information section.

2.11pm, my accounts shows the following transactions:

Hey, they've only deducted 34K+ for the second booking, but I can't waste any more of my time today. That's close enough....:shock::rolleyes:

Not a good result, and how long will you be prepared to let it go before you ring back, given the deadline?

OATEK, now sorted - I've updated my post above. C'est la vie.

I've burnt the lot...well, I tried but they didn't want to take.

Can give some back to my m-i-l now :D

Not sure what the technical name is but tag (?) flights such as BNE-SYD are basically free when it's part of larger booking - revenue or award. It cost me $66.34 to tag BNE-SYD to our SYD-LHR F/MASA

Not sure about CNS-SYD. Call QFF and get a quote to amend the SYD-JFK booking....come back and post the outcome.

Called the premium desk and they quoted me the full points fare for the SYD - CNS leg of 24000 p/p. I'm better of purchasing a cheap Discount Y when they become available.

Thanks kpc, I will try to get through to the premium desk and see if they can help.

Just to confirm, they are able to manually edit the Activity Statement entry, or delete it and replace with a correct ANY SEAT AWARD entry.

Bummer. Must be a distance limit for the tag freebies (well, almost freebies)

Living close to BNE and prefer to fly Int ex-Syd it's a great perk - $60.50 each to do J BNE-SYD .... SYD-BNE with 4,000 QFFP and 80SC thrown in for kicks.

Just off the phone to the premium desk. I was told off for ringing them on behalf of a PS
Profuse apologies by me and the agent looked up the booking and said it definitely looks like an ASA. Put me on hold and checked with her supervisor who confirmed it's apparently an ASA
I asked for notes to be put into the booking regarding the telephone advice and this has been done.

It could well be a distance thing for example you could do a JASA booking SYD-BNE-TSV for 48000 QFF however a CNS-BNE-SYD is 72000 points

If anything, JFK-CNS should be fewer points than JFK-SYD as a JASA, since it's a shorter point-to-point distance. Probably fall into the same points category though.

Those words aren't 'dreaded'. All my JASAs have had those. Fear not, all is well :).

You are indeed correct Mr_Orange  - I just went back through my JASA's and the last one with the heading "ANY SEAT REWARD" was in August 2013. See how much attention I was paying to it :o

Just tired to book cbr-syd-nou rtn (or cbr-bne-nou rtn) as a mASA in J and was quoted co-payments of around $1400 instead of the $402 for the classic award.

Does this seem right to anyone? :(

Seems crazy to me.

Pity I couldn't find any available F MASA's for SYD-HKG or vise-versa due to the A380 going in Oct. Anyone managed to find an available F award before OCT on the SYD-HKG HKG-SYD route?

As of yesterday, SYD-HKG on August 8 and HKG-SYD on August 18 after my cancelled flights went back to inventory.

When cancelling an already ticketed MASA, do your points get credited back immediately?
