Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Major screw up here. Just realised I hadn't written down the wrong date for a changed FASA (no QF conf was sent) and have booked other flights and accommodation around it.

Flight is still empty but no Classic F available. Res say they can't request release unless it is a prime (new) booking -- so I would have to cancel and refund FASA (and lose the benefits) to try and get a new Classic, or pay $8k cash difference!

Ouch Not sure what to say ;(

Yep... Think I'm going to book a backup PE classic on the date I want (5k to cancel up till flight) and hope a classic F opens up in the last 48hrs as they often seem to do - flight still F9 A6

I hope it works,

Haven't been in PE for years. Tis a huge drop from F

Seriously? P class gets released close to departure? I know other airlines do it, but this is the first I've heard of QF doing it...

They do, typically to fulfil upgrade requests for empty seats, so you'd have to be mighty quick to nab one ahead of the upgrade queue.

Oh, never heard of that - I thought points upgrades are just "converted" to an F seat. ie. no "convert to P first, then give to a JCDI points upgrade request".
Has anyone ever seen this occur?

I have the same view as you ... seat allocated to FF then converted.

I've seen late seats pop up occasionally - not holding my breath however, so have booked a lengthy connection in the FL.

Funnily a flight 4 days later with lower F and A, still has P....
Resigned to PE and missing out on the 420 SCs which makes Plat requal tough... Anyhow my stuff up.

Interestingly did find out that the Plat Request seats process is an automated program

It is my understanding that the seat does not get allocated, the booking is "upgraded" into an available redemption bucket. The availability in the booking class must be there for the upgrade to be processed.

Yield checks revenue classes, determines available seats, runs their magic yield algorithm to see how many they are likely to sell at the last minute, then opens up redemption classes accordingly.

Upgrades are then processed in status order for the available redemption seats from the highest class down. Upgrades are wait listed first, then fulfilled in status and maybe name or PCV order (depending on who you talk to) from F down to PE, hence if no J, you can ask for PE.

That's how I understood it to work anyway. I may be completely off base.

What I will say is that last minute redemptions in premium classes for single travellers do come along quite often. It might be some other yield mystery but my money is on the above scenario.

It's automated unless it is rejected, then a manual request can be sent to yield to request a seat. I've failed on the automated and had success with the manual request, and also had success on the automated too, so I guess it just depends on the flight loading. Oh and failed on both too :(

Mrs B and I have one of our last JASA's tomorrow. Was originally Mel-xSyd-Lhr. This afternoon I got a call from the premium desk to offer to move to the direct QF9 service that leaves later in the evening with the added bonus of an upgrade to F. I asked and was assured that I'd still get my points and more importantly my SC which I need to re qualify at least at the original booked class of travel/itinerary.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? It almost seems too good to be true.

You most likely need to chase up SC's anyway. We have to gives them a gentle nudge each time since simpler and fairer kicked in

Think QF is doing it to suit themselves - the ex-SYD flights have higher loads, so if they can move you to a direct they can sell more full revenue seats from SYD.
So long as the ticket is reticketed in the U bucket should be no problem in getting the SCs (albeit you might get lucky and get it ticketed in P)
I assume you won't get the 40 SC for MEL-SYD, but if you end in P you might get 420 instead of 280...

I assume this is for today/tonight (14/5) based on time of posting
Whilst this is undoubtedly a special case, it does show QF doing last minute shifting of seats and buckets.

Hopefully you'll be able to accept - enjoy!

Great work!

After my recent F/JASA + an upcoming JASA I'm going to be 60SC shy of WP (1,400SC) .... will call and make the necassary arrangements and add something to BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE-?(60SC)? to drag me over the line

Q - can you add more than one sector to an existing JASA? i.e. I have BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE .... can I add BNE-MEL-BNE

The BNE-MEL will get me the 60SC I'm looking for ... but I need to get back to BNE.

Yes. I have. Look earlier in this thread. IIRC it took more than one try to do it, I'm thinking of adding a second lot of two segments to a booking I have

Ok. Just been rejected as my existing booking is departing and returning to the same point (BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE). Is this a case of HUCA or it's just the way it is?
