Think QF is doing it to suit themselves - the ex-SYD flights have higher loads, so if they can move you to a direct they can sell more full revenue seats from SYD.
So long as the ticket is reticketed in the U bucket should be no problem in getting the SCs (albeit you might get lucky and get it ticketed in P)
I assume you won't get the 40 SC for MEL-SYD, but if you end in P you might get 420 instead of 280...

Whilst this is undoubtedly a special case, it does show QF doing last minute shifting of seats and buckets.
Yes it leaves later tonight, although it has been delayed a little. I am assuming I will get my SC as per ORC rather than at P level, but that would be nice!!
