Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Think QF is doing it to suit themselves - the ex-SYD flights have higher loads, so if they can move you to a direct they can sell more full revenue seats from SYD.
So long as the ticket is reticketed in the U bucket should be no problem in getting the SCs (albeit you might get lucky and get it ticketed in P)
I assume you won't get the 40 SC for MEL-SYD, but if you end in P you might get 420 instead of 280...

I assume this is for today/tonight (14/5) based on time of posting
Whilst this is undoubtedly a special case, it does show QF doing last minute shifting of seats and buckets.

Yes it leaves later tonight, although it has been delayed a little. I am assuming I will get my SC as per ORC rather than at P level, but that would be nice!!
 
After my recent F/JASA + an upcoming JASA I'm going to be 60SC shy of WP (1,400SC) .... will call and make the necassary arrangements and add something to BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE-?(60SC)? to drag me over the line :mrgreen:

Ok. Just been rejected as my existing booking is departing and returning to the same point (BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE). Is this a case of HUCA or it's just the way it is?

FWIW I had another go today, answer = No. Same reason articulated by the first agent - start and end point are the same.

Looks like I'll need to pull the wallet out and fund the 60SC the old fashion way.
 
Update. Ended up keeping original routing, changed the dates and moved to the earlier QF81 departure. Have decided to connect to BKK rather than stay in SIN .... 3K SIN-BKK-SIN w/bundle reaps 60SC:D 5* hotels in BKK are way cheaper than SIN - the saving has paid for the 3K flights - happy days!

I'm thinking of adding a second lot of two segments to a booking I have :eek:

So I pulled the trigger and it went without a hitch (13 min call).
I added a SYD-MEL-SYD JASA between the LHR-xMEL-SYD FASA and SYD-xMEL-ADL JASA.
Cost ~$185, cheaper than some of the one way Y fares.

I'm tempted to do another one :eek:

I'm a tad confused.

So original was FASA LHR/MEL/SYD

Then you added connecting SYD/MEL/ADL ( were the flights same day or separate?).?

Then you added a further connecting sector SYD/MEL/SYD how did that fit in??????

Summary - final booking, ticketed within the hour, is:
LHR-xMEL-SYD FASA
(in SYD for a few months)
SYD-MEL-SYD JASA
(A few nights in MEL, then in SYD again for a couple of months)
SYD-xMEL-ADL JASA
(end of trip)

"x" in front of the airport indicates a transit (<24 hrs). Everything else is one segment with >24 hrs between that and the next one.

I'll be interested to see how much it cost me for the whole thing, changes and all...
 
So in effect you have acheived multiple domestic sectors off the one FASA by inserting a second domestic sector once a domestic sector had already been added.

I'm surprised they added a insert SYD/MEL/SYD as a JASA!

Unfortunately, my experience in this regard was not as straight forward, though I didn't HUACA and try another operator due to limited time available. I did however ask the agent to check, check with the supervisor, and then check again. Same answer on that call. Fortunately, I had another avenue I could explore and had a phone call back later that morning confirming that it was possible. Success all-round fortunately, but once again, as with many QF issues, it really does depend who you get on the day and what mood they are in or what knowledge/experience they possess.

However Qantas ground staff and the premium desk were of no help at the time. I have had expenses due to no food or drinks on the flight and no internet access to reschedule appointments. No one from Qantas has yet contacted me. My question is what refund / compensation should I be entitled to for, in this situation keeping in mind this was a JASA flight. Any feedback or info is appreciated.

At it's simplest... you didn't get what you paid for, and should be entitled to a refund between the class of service paid, and the class of service flown.

However, knowing the way airlines calculate this difference, they will possibly argue you're due nothing or very little back.

However - the reason for the delay may influence your bargaining position when it comes to a refund. If it was a matter within Qantas' control (for example because of maintenance, late crew, scheduling), you might have a better case to push for what you think is fair, rather than what the airline calculates.

If you wanted to drop the whole refund calculation thing, you might be able to argue for food and other expenses. I'm not sure there is a basis to argue both (refund and food expenses), as they might consider that double dipping.

One last thing if the classic award shows up with a different airline, does this method still work?

MASAs no longer exist. They ended about a year ago and people are still in the throes of using up their last ones booked then.
 
haha, looks like i am 1 year too late to join the party :)

thanks. so basically we are either with classic award, or pay the stupid amount of points and money for any seat award?

Successfully upgraded a JASA LHR-MEL to a FASA for travel next week, $620pp. Seems like reasonable value for the extra SCs but nothing like the old days of $400 or so... No upgrade lottery for us ;)
