When you are successful in having a ASA booked into U Fare know this means u get SC & points, does it also mean that it becomes eligible to upgrade?

Simply put- yes and yes

Note it is actually the reverse of what you have stated ie. having a U class fare booked as an ASA

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Booked a return MEL-SYD-ASP JASA today.

The lady who took my call had just returned from leave and hadn't done one of these bookings before but worked through it with the assistance of a supervisor, was on the phone for less than 15 mins, no booking fee.

Had the JASA trip a few weekends back, as luck would have it the first flight had a hydraulic issue which caused a delay and subsequently required an aircraft swap, as this would have meant missing the connecting flight to ASP, I was put on the direct flight from MEL. Probably a saving grace in the end, reduced the trip to 5 flights in 22hrs rather than 6, an email to member services a few days later had the original routing credit in my account.:)

Was a bit worried at first, but having read about similar instances on the forum, had a good idea on what to do.

Have been around the forum for a while now but never really posted much, always seemed to be others with vastly greater knoweldge than myself.

A big thanks to ALL that post on these boards, it has definitely helped me with my travelling and FF quest, still learning but I'm hoping to start chipping in a bit more often where I can.

cheers

Oops! Had it a$$ about sorry!

I am going to attempt the following request BNE-DFW Via SYD Then LAX -BNE. there are classic seats available so if I a) ask correctly like PrincessF says and B) Hope I get one of these helpful and knowledgable QF staff on the WP line then at very least ill have the Y seats with a request for up, though with three of us travelling and other two no status not sure if there is availability what chances would be.

I do have internals to do DFW -MCO and MCO -LAX and again could book with QF points for total (Return international + internal) of 410k +$2600 ish. Wasn't sure if I booked the internals on QF site or AA site??

Ill post to let you know how I fare (pun intended!)

I think the upgrade request is ranked by the status of the requesting FFer. So if you are WP you should request the upgrades rather than the non status passengers

Oh great, thanks Newk..sorry for another noob question but this page https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/classTypes

shows U fare as Business so does that mean I need to make sure there is classic award in business available first? And if there isn't and only is Economy award seats, do I as for something else? Like havin a X class booked as ASA?

someone will know more than me but my suggestion is to just apply. They may only release the award seats in the day leading up to the flight. It is not like some other airlines where the upgrade can be confirmed at application

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

U is business award, X is economy award.

You can't request a points upgrade from X class even if booked as an ASA.

Just converted our classic award MEL-SYD-JNB to a MASA.......Took Sheri all of 5 minutes and we were all done...Brilliant :)

Any penalty / change fee ?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

5000 points per person cancellation fee plus an extra $150.00 pp because of the change to a MASA ...This was booked using the minimum points option.

Sounds like there is a potential new option for a WP-released classic award to be converted to an ASA...

Released award seats dont go back into the inventory straight away and sometimes never, more than likely the inventory was there x2 .

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Still very hit and miss booking a MASA with the new system. You can hear the hesitation in the voice of the CSR when you explain what you are trying to do. I got there in the end with my JASA booking but it was hard work. I believe QF have not made it easy on their end either for the CSR and the systems they have to use. The almost $2000 in copayment is starting to get up there however.

It can depend on the agent - a competent one can "hold on" to the 'seat'(/'fare bucket') and use it in a new booking without releasing it.

It's a little similar how some construct a oneworld award over several calls as inventory changes.

TBH, I think pyffi was really fortunate to get such an agent. :D

Well, were I Red Roo, I would ask Sheri to re-write the memo to all CSRs then.

Then, no AFFer needs to have palpitations before picking up the phone to call ... in case the CSR on that day is "off" the page.

I don't think the memo itself is the problem - it's that quite a number of staff appear not to have read it!

If you can find a way to guarantee staff read what's sent to them, then please do share .... I for one would love to implement such a system where I work!
