re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

A mildly interesting empirical observation that might be useful in determining co-payment amounts for simple UASAs:

Looking at three different 16k bookings (CBR-MEL, BNE-SYD, MEL-ADL), the difference between the UASA and Classic co-payments is $69.50 in each case.
Looking at three different 24k bookings (SYD-HBA, SYD-ADL, BNE-TSV), the difference between the UASA and Classic co-payments is $107.00 in each case.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Called up today and made a jasa booking with no problems.

The operator knew what she was doing and she didn't event try to charge me booking fee.

Interesting remark at the end though, she was very irritated with the amount of 'cheap' calls she got and started ranting about how unfairly cheap these business seats got sold for...

using her words, this is just an interim measurement and the whole ASA system will be gone in 3 months max.

Did she let this slip or is it common knowledge?

Lets hope it still exists on November 5th or so! Thats about when I can book my 1 way UASA seats...

Hopefully you reminded her that although cheap, they still provide more cash revenue for qantas than a classic award....

Irritated :?: Is she a Qantas big wig filling in at the call centre

Very useful information to have I think. Can we have more of this type of info from other posters?
Perhaps even an enhancement to Jessica Tam's spreadsheet ?

Jessica :?:

I took out some "insurance" for this scenario by securing a JASA on the same route, assuming that I will be able to swap even if MASA is kaput by 2-3 months' time.

Worst case?

Cancel and get the pts / $$ back

...even if MASA is kaput by 2-3 months' time.

Anything's possible, however pure speculation at this stage, there is no factual information backing this up [yet]

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I am not holding my breath that marginal ASA's will actually hang around!

Going to lock in a few for 2015 as soon as I can

2014 is sorted for Platinum again but would like to safely lock in 2015 just-in-case I don't have enough normal flights to make Plat again

Wasn't an assurance given by Stphanie at a recent Qantas lunch

Yeh "no plans" doesn't mean much really in the aviation/FF world....

Things change all the time, take advantage of them while they are around to maximize your benefits

The online JASA's disappeared 26 June & the 3 month anniversary is tomorrow.

Are they still:

a) under 'review'
b) here for the long run but bookable over the phone only
c) vanishing altogether

Apart from time lost doing the booking, there is very little downside in some forward planning for 2014 flights (for 2015 renewal year).

Heard of "no GST, ever" pledge before ?

This is interesting. What point would there be in saying that, as a CSR, if it wasn't true as far as she knew. She may have revealed what is in the pipeline.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I suppose the reality is QF are stuck with Classic awards (everyone does it) BUT the (unique) bridge too far of the ASA world is obviously not in their long term plans.
I cant see them dropping it and I cant see them being too ungenerous to the One World alliance either.
So worst case scenario IMHO is we will see ASA go by the way side. Classic awards maybe tightened and possibly even fewer award seats available (not sure that's a good plan though) .
I think I will save my points and see what happens, status will be more difficult to attain (for me) so I shall likely fly even less frequently and concentrate on J seats where I can

We would all like an answer but doubt one will be coming.
