re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

it was mentioned several times that Plat Members represent around 3% of all frequent Flyers and that P1 are about 1% yet the dollars that these percentatges mean to QF is many many times more that the 3 and 1 %.

I agree that QF should listen. No way those percentages are close to correct, though.

I thought P1 was meant to be only a few thousand??

Have a +50% SC offer so I will try the call up.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Hill of Grace has gone scarce in Perth but I do have some equivalents.
I do have to say I don't really like calling for something that used to be a couple of clicks and you were done.

Oh I'm not sure that there is anything equivalent to Hill of Grace :)

I went looking after 2 of my 1990 Hill of Grace corks failed. H don't cover that but Penfolds do.
Penfolds 707 is very good and Diana Madeline works well for lubricating the voice for the Qantas MASA call.

I'm pretty sure the Perth event is planned for the second week.... so perhaps you'll miss it...

If it's the second week of November as was indicated, I will be good for it. I leave for the S wilds on 26 Nov.

Perhaps we should do a kind of reverse Rockpool lunch and invite Red Roo over. After all, he/she/they fly for free - and they have some explaining to do!

Agree. QF Loyalty have previously said 60,000 WPs and 3,000 WP1s so out of 9 million QFF members that is more like 0.67% WPs and 0.03% WP1s.

How many of those 9 million actually fly frequently would be an interesting question.

Limewood will be pleased to know that I stated several times in my reply to yesterday's QF Research market research email survey that mASAs should be put back online :p

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

?....Anita mentioned that these ASAs were now only available to platinums and P1s and while that doesn’t seem to be borne out by other posters’ experiences, ISTR someone else reporting a similar conversation earlier in the thread.

..... my theory that people just make sh$t up as they go along

Just got off the 'phone making an marginal ASA, LHR to SYD next year. Wanted to book in business and use 128,000 points. CSR did not seem to have experience with this type of booking. Quoted around $4300 + 12800 pts. Things changed when I mentioned the RoQ 7740. He asked me to wait and then came back with a quote of about $1100+ 128000 pts which seemed good to me. Booking into U class. Took around 20 minutes. Although he did not seem familiar with the MASA, the CSR was professional throughout the conversation and listened to me patiently.

Was there classic award availability showing, I haven't seen any for a while around T-353 (QF a/c).

Yes there was classic award availability (not sure whether being wp makes a difference here).

I should also have mentioned how helpful it was to have read the comments by others on this thread. I would definitely not have had the confidence to persevere with the conversation without the advice, so a big "thank you".

After dreading the call I finally booked an mASA today.
SYD to MEL return - U class - 36,777 points and $200.

Angela at the call centre knew what I was talking about immediately and told me that this was her second booking of this type.
She told me she had a 'gentleman' call her a few weeks ago and he got very irate with her because she didnt know what he was talking about.
A little courtesy goes a long way guys!!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I rang the general QFF number today to cancel an ASA I had booked in November.
went through the select number process and spoke to a lady Bridgette who listened carefully and then apologised and said she would switch me through to the Premium Desk ( I did not ask for that). Then spoke to an extremely courteous bright lady ( Kirsty or Kristen) told her what I wanted to do and she processed the cancellation promptly and credited the dollars back to my Credit Card.

Chatting to her I asked how she was going with the new system and she said that it was mainly only the Platinum members that were using them and that most people did not understand them or even know they existed.

She said that too many people had had problems with the old system and did not understand what types of tickets they were booking etc.

I told her I did it for the status credits and the points and that as I flew almost exclusively Qantas it enabled me to get the platinum benefits and lounge access when I flew.

She seemed very switched on.

Initially I did not like the changes but I am starting to come to the view that this will end up being a bit like fishing a blackberry infested river.

Hard work getting in, a few scratches along the way, but when you do there is very little competition and some pretty good fish to be caught.

I can relate most things in life to fishing, guess I am scarred in both my passions in my quest for points and also fishing

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

MASA booked one way Brisbane to Singapore in J - early November for 60,000 pts plus approx. $340. Tried to charge a booking fee but when I objected they waivered it. She initially stated she knew nothing about the MASA - but continued to work through it - and was quite helpful. Interesting to note that she was not up to date regarding the new family transfer arrangements. Its a bit of a pin having to go through the call centre - but that just requires a bit of re adjustment in order to receive the benefits.

Can to pm the date I need a boys weekend. It'll be totally worth it.

Why plant blackberries where none existed. And then throw stones to scare the fish. It wasn't broken. Your analogy not withstanding
