Always ask AstroDamo. Oh and ask before you have checked your luggage on the 6 hours later flight.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

If that is the case I will be flying over you Shintaro10x. At least your points did not get cancelled from non use.
I was reading about South Australian products that included Coopers,Vili's pies and Haigh's chocolates in another thread. All good!

Actually cove I'll be in perth in 5 weeks if you wanted to catch up for for a drink and compare xASA experiences. .. I'm there next week but schedule too busy to catch up but if you're in perth Nov second week it might work

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

At this stage I have not JASA-ed or MASA-ed my way out of Perth so that should work.

I'm also in PER second week Nov, we might be able to have a an ASA wake :D

So there I was thinking I was an orphan with my Any Seat phone calls.
Yes I expect to be in Perth in November seeing my partners are doing an overseas trade show.
An ASA wake with Mosswood or Cullen's red would keep my heart specialist smiling.

Happy to share a good red with you both and discuss what the "magic" words are to book these now with most Qantas CSA's, if it works out, check out the November "meeting" thread for when I'm over that way...

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Shrek is going to try to book his inaugural MASA
It's a relatively straightforward JASA to PER with Classic award availability on multiple flights.
After explaining the procedure to him, (including the fall-back HUACA) he's decided that he better wait until I'm at home to help out :D
I'll keep you all posted

Its only a straightforward process if he gets the HBA call center.... If he gets to speak with Dema then it will be a pleasurable experience, otherwise expect more than one phone call being required to secure the MASA he requires...

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

HI Red Roo,

you asked us to let you know if we have difficulty in booking the ASA, so here i am.

Just got off a 1 hour phone call to Jessica, now she was very nice, and willing to help but was unable to help me book 2* MEl-SYD-BNE and return in JASA.
She had the ROQ 7740 and said she was following it step by step, and she did not charge me a booking fee.
The problem was the booking system would not let her book it without a stop over even though it was available in Classic awards for 96k points, it would only let her book it for 128K points?
This would have given my wife and I an extra 20 SC each over the direct flight, but i reluctantly agreed to the direct flight. The co payment for the direct flight was going to be $575.40, so i opted for the extra points.
So all up it cost me 157k+ points!:(

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I made my first phone bookings the other evening.

After an initial two minutes in the queue, two separate bookings, BKK-SYD and SYD-BKK, were completed in ten minutes for 120K points and $893 total, though I could have saved a few $$ by booking a return trip.
240 SCs and with bonuses I’ll recoup about 32K points.

Anita mentioned that these ASAs were now only available to platinums and P1s and while that doesn’t seem to be borne out by other posters’ experiences, ISTR someone else reporting a similar conversation earlier in the thread.

So, while that’s probably as good as it gets in the new era, I took little pleasure from it; the thrill of the chase has gone and the screaming bargains are no longer there (which, I have to admit, is fair enough really).

Well done scoring a MASA to/from BKK! How far out did you book? In my experience that is the toughest Asia route on which to score a MASA. SIN / HKG is a breeze by comparison.

Both in Feb next year, should have included that detail.

Well done, just wondering why you chose two separate bookings? Unless they were for different people I'm guessing?

Just in case.
E.g. I could, potentially, change or cancel the first flight without affecting the second.
It was an extra $30 credit card fee so I thought it worthwhile.

News to me. I've booked five JASAs since the change, four as a NB and one as SG with no issues relating to status. The last was only booked about 2 weeks ago. I've had plenty of dramas while trying to book them, but my lowly status was never a factor to my knowledge. If it was, it didn't stop me from making successful bookings in the end.

Stopover means >24hours in Syd.. if you were <24hours it should have been a transit and not charged as separate leg, ie 96k+taxes. (24k each way PP).

157k points all in sounds about right...

Useful price check, as that is what I paid for mine a couple of months ago.
