re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Let me get this straight. You are saying you have only had positive experiences SINCE QF moved to off line ASA's?
This seems quite remarkable when clearly the vast majority of posters have had the exact opposite experience.
Tell us bout your negative experiences from before QF went offline.

I think he is saying that he has been fortunate enough to have had only positive experiences when using the Phone in Method for MASA I didnt take it that he had negative prior :D when it could be done online :D

Yes Ansett, you are correct. Not saying that I had negative experiences with the online facility. I'm just saying that from my personal experiences I would say that I have positive interactions and I'm certainly not doubting that others have had very negative experiences with this and I don't enjoy being on the phone for 30mins or so when I don't need to be.

I have been fortunate indeed.

Not sure if it makes any difference at all but I haven't called during business hours. I generally ring after work. And once again I think that most operators that I have spoken to have been based in the TAS call centre.

I thought I read a requirement for the new service (over the phone) was calling during standard business hours. Must be dreaming. But something I'll note down :)

It changed. Red Roo reported the change in hours on one of the threads here.

One of my successful MASAs was done near mid-night using the Platinum number (easier to remember).

I did both of my post-changes mASA bookings on the platinum number without any trouble. It was during Aust business hours.

Just rang and was successful on the first try - JASA. Premium desk answered, total call time ~9 mins.
I think her name was Lorraine? - CSA was a bit cold and clinical but got the result, which is what matters.
Started with "I'm looking at booking an ASA that can't be booked online any more" which was then abruptly interjected with a "oh, the marginal type" :lol:
I knew I had the right person - initial quote was for all inclusive points, then she asked if I wanted minimum points to which I said yes, then she had to put me on hold for 30-60 seconds to check something, then I got the right quote.

Ticketed within 15 mins, it does say this:
ASA_invoice.jpg

For those who successfully made bookings, does it say the same on your e-ticket?
Just want to make sure that it is an ASA and not classic award...

Edit: jumped the gun on that earlier question, just checked my activity statement it most definitely says ASA in the description.

I thought the activity statement just shows points earned ? Or are you saying it appeared there as an ASA after you had actually flown ?

Also - had anybody booked a pure status run over the phone ?
Am thinking of doing a MEL-DRW-BNE-MEL for 220 SCs or a MEL-SYD-ASP-SYD-MEL for 240 SCs with same day/same plane turnaround ?

Wonder if I have to make some sort of excuse eg, picking up some documents that cannot be posted lol.

Points deducted for forthcoming bookings will be shown in the activity statement with the booking type, e.g.:

03 0CT 2013 QANTAS & JETSTAR ANY SEAT AWARD 1 ADT REF -32,000

Thanks cheers for that.
As you can see it has been a while since I've booked a JASA.

I have had different descriptions on my activity statement when the points are deducted.

So now I look at my booking and check the booking classes for ASAs -

F = P
J = U
PE = Z
Y = X

If I'm not mistaken

This is from a successful July 2013 booking for a 2014 MASA

Not sure that will really help you as I'm pretty sure that classic awards also book into those classes.

You are not mistaken - looking at the booking page is generally of little help in discerning between a Classic award and a MASA.

A more reliable way is as expressed here:

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Almost successful.
After four previous unsuccessful attempts I did three bookings that were ok.
The slider produced points at a cent each so I put some of the cost on Amex Ultimate to get 2.5 points on that bit.
Now I have to ask for 3 lots of 3500 points booking fees back as it is not possible to get ASAs other than by calling.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Four attempts looks like the ASA by phone is improving :eek:

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Yes and this morning I called and I am getting the 3 times 3500 points back so it is a bit convoluted but it kinda worked for QF.
I just wish we could do these on the internet so the call centre sales could do real sales.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

So that is now 7 phone calls made, still haven't booked a seat, beyond a joke really.

Last guy said I will have to prove the second passenger is my "domestic partner" at the airport or they wont produce her ticket as the ASA is only for related passengers.

On top of all the fuss with that, he said that the ASA would never ever under any circumstances be at the classic rate.

This is obviously a situation where QANTAS want to phase out the ASA program and by making it this difficult, the customer base will drop and provide them a reason to remove them all together

Whats the go Red Roo? Really not feeling the QF love anymore..... It's becoming all too hard

Codswallop! It's not the job of airport staff to quiz people on the nature of their relationship to another passenger. That is an issue that should be sorted at the time of reservation.

A domestic partner is no less of a person that a married spouse remembering that not all couples have the 'luxury' of choosing to have their union formally recognised in Australia.

I find it quite extraordinary if not ludicrous that a Classic Award for a non-married couple is allegedly acceptable but an ASA is not.
