Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Correct :)
I had one fixed up immediately on the telephone.
I also think based on my own sample of n=4 that there are now problems with the crediting of JASAs.
Prior to the new booking engine, and presumed upgrade of the back end myself and Shrek had no JASA's post incorrectly. Since then 4/6 have posted as Classic Awards with zero points and SC's. :(

My JASA from Thursday night posted without any issues.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Can someone please explain this to me. I just checked and the classic points were 72,000 for this trip. Is the 48k after sliding it down to increase the co-payment?

I booked yesterday MEL - BNE - TSV return and was told that it was 72,000 + $500. Got it to 100,000 points + 300, but that just doesn't make sense - have I simply been tricked into booking an ASA instead of a MASA?

I was just thinking the same thing!

I have booked a BNE-MEL-ADL ret, and BNE-SYD ret during January, and I have noticed that at the bottom of eticket in tax info box it says AWARD + $xyz on both.

Earlier this year I did a BNE-SYD-PER-KTA return and the eticket tax info box says ANY SEAT AWARD + $xyz.

I just called CSO Michelle to question, ever so helpful, and she checked it out and said it is a ASA and will earn SC's.

Still cant help but feel a bit uneasy. I see no real value in taking these bookings offline!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Silly question ... I booked one today, the right number of points deducted, and the $$ copayment was more than double for classic award (so sounds right for an ASA) .... shows up as U class in MBB, but just says "Award" on the booking receipt? Have I actually managed an ASA, or have I got some screwy classic award? Just a bit paranoid ...

I have the same issue but CSO says it is an ASA and will get SC's. Lets hope so!

everyone is the same. it's been mentioned numerous times on AFF now.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

RANDOM QUESTION
I am wanting to take advantage of the 100% bonus FF european promotion, but the conditions say I have to fly to a QF destination in EU, Lisbon is not a QF destination, but I will fly via London which is. Would that count, or is my destination where I get off my last plane?

The offer says that your itinerary has to "include any of the eligible flights from Australia listed below", so if you satisfy that criterion you should be OK.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Month booked | Month travelled | Cabin | Route | Points cost | Co-pay* | SCs earned
DEC 13 | DEC 13 | J | BNE-ADL-PER-KTA-PER-MEL-BNE | 72,000 | $611 | 400 (x2 DSC)

My first ASA since the changes - could not have been easier on the phone - very lucky.

Takes me to platinum just in time for the 31st December :)

Wow! I should have done that one :-)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Well after 6 successful booking yesterday I look at my booking to see that the CRS booked me a classic after taking points and the correct payment for a ASA. Looks like it on the phone again today to sort it out

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

What does it say on your activity statement?

Thanks! (and to Aussie_flyer) That worked - says "Qantas and jetstar any seat award".

Yay :)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Assuming you already know where you want to fly, this is what I do:

1. Use prior knowledge or the spreadsheet to know what the route in question should cost in terms of cost and co-pay. Or ask here first.
2. Use the QF website to make sure of classic availability for the dates you want.
3. Call.
4. "Hi, I'd like to book an Any Seat Award in the U fare bucket".
5. Give the specific flight numbers you looked up in 2.
6. Be prepared to say how much you want to pay in points, then check that the price matches what you expect.
7. If it doesn't match what you expect, say so. If it does, you probably have a mASA.
8. If still uncomfortable, say thanks and try again later.
9. Check your Activity Statement for the magic words "ANY SEAT AWARD" when your points are deducted.
10. Look out for a 3,500 points deduction around the same time.
11. Call back if 9 doesn't apply or 10 does.

Hi
Could you please advise the spreadsheet link
Thanks

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Was about to call up and book this JASA itinerary to travel in January, as per the details from other recent successful bookings (below).

However the website shows Classic Points for J as 36,000 each way = 72,000 total points ?

Any suggestions/help or has there been an increase in the points required since 1st Dec ?

The 72k is for a Classic award, 48k is for a minimum points ASA with co-payment.

You now know there are Classic Award seats available so an ASA should be possible when you call up.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Booked mine for 13 Jan. Same 48k+$385.50 price.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Booked a BNE/DRW mJASA on first attempt on Saturday afternoon, took the CSA 7 mins - he hadn't booked one for a while and laughed when I told him all the keystrokes could be found in RoQ 7740. He did ask (very good naturedly) how I knew more about their system than him :D. He did confirm all the right things upfront without me asking (no charge for booking, fare rules, etc) - sounded like he was following the steps :D ;)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Spoke to Daniel yesterday and booked ADL-SYD-ADL mASA. Telephone answered immediately and Daniel knew exactly what he was doing. He did mention however that there are quite a few new staff that don't know what to do so perhaps that's why some AFFers are still reporting problems.

Unfortunately my call did take just on 30mins as "the system" kept booking my request as a Classic. I did have to point this out to Daniel when quoted an unexpected copay of just $81.10 so be aware if the amount seems wrong.
The outcome was that Daniel had to change computers twice (so I was told) and it was on the third machine that my booking went through correctly.:)

I have no reason to doubt Daniel who was most apologetic for the delay, I did go away happy but still find it frustrating that I can't make this type of booking on line, especially that I had to go on line in the first place to find the suitable flights. A few more clicks and it could have been done in a lot less than the 30mins it took.

*will now remove the stuck needle from the record groove*

Well. The individual computer terminals/monitors now decide how each JASA is processed. ;)

Agree about how it should be brought back on-line. Totally crazy now.

Re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Has anyone booked a mASA MEL-(SYD/BNE)-SIN return recently. Looking at the spreadsheet it appears the co-pay and points required has gone up significantly. I was quoted 120K points (which is the classic amount) and a cop-pay of just over $1400. Does that sound about right?

Edit: it appears that going via SYD was significantly cheaper in both points and co-pay. For some reason going via BNE was calculating each leg separately. Oh well, no 747 but at least I get to use the SYD F Lounge.

Not that I have booked that as a mASA, however the $ looks about 2x what it should be. The points are correct.

You might need to check that it isn't a points-plus-pay booking (that is therefore not being booked into 'U').

Why did your booking via SYD end up being 156,000 points?
