Ansett, just saw your post about the 10th... guess I'll see you on the plane? :D

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just wondering, did you guys (who have had success) call the 1300366587 number or the plat line?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just got off the phone with Peter in Brisbane and he was great. Sorted out my Mel-Bne-Mel booking and canceled my old one. Knew exactly what I wanted and fully understood why I was rebooking with a DSC offer. 48,000 and 287.70 co payment.
Red Roo please pass on my thanks again.

I called the 1300 number

I'm not a WP and have called the 1300 number and an 02 number both of which seem to go through the same menu options as 131313 anyway...

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

i called an 02 number from their website .. dont have my phone in front of me but it just diverts to the standard QFF line

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Finally, success! Called the 1300 number, was routed to Qantas premium to an agent who knows exactly what to do. Completed Syd-bne-tsv-bne-syd and cancelled my messed up yesterday's ZASA-on-hold booking, all in 8 minutes.

You've done well. Shows it is not impossible after all. Merely difficult. I think Noreen may still struggle with her itinerary though.

Crikey, you are going to be sick of the sight of aeroplanes after that week!

Guys will let you know how I go when I get the call back, the booking ref is there but no points deducted yet...or $$.....I will be disappointed if does not go through as Mes/Syd/Asp now gone on the dates I wanted

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

yes, I think that has been why I questioned my first booking this morning OOL-SYD-BNE-TSV return as minimum 80,000pts + $500~ This is the only option for Bus class fare. Jetstar via CNS don't show Bus as an option to even pay outright. I think the JASA is pricey both in points and $ but I need to be there. I got Peter the second time and he quoted the same amounts.
Noreen, there are now quite a few posts on this thread attesting to the fact that it is now quite difficult, if not impossible, to book an xASA for the normal cheap number of points by an indirect route where a more direct route exists. Now I haven't looked it up but I would guess that there would be a more direct way of getting to ASP from MEL other than going via SYD and ADL.

If you try and book an xASA by these indirect routes it looks like QF's computers view them as multiple ASAs, and price them accordingly.

Good luck, let us know if you have any joy with this.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Rang the 1300 number, got a guy who did not understand, would not read instructions on ROQ7740 and put me through to the frequent flyer office, which naturally was closed.
Rang back and got the delightful Christine who organised 3 flights for me. One quirk came up when doing the second booking in that the system told her I did not have enough points, even though she could see 150K plus in account. She checked and was told that was a common problem and to push through. All was well

DEC13 |DEC13 | Business | KTA-PER-KTA | 48,000 | 306.84 | $7cc | 240 sc (Xmas double offer) this done 3 times.

Are you travelling early or late February 2014 (not 2013)? You can earn DSC flying on 31 January 2014 if you register for the Christmas offer.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just attempted and made my first International xASA (P class). Took 10 minutes, including about 5 on hold when the system wasn't co-operating with the operator. She was very nice and knew what to do, though her lack of confirmation as the steps progressed was a little disconcerting. Have just checked online booking and it all seems fine. Will post to the reference thread, but also want to note that she indicated that these were being phased out soon given other options are available on the website to earn points. They have not been told when, however.

Canberra - Sydney (J) - Los Angeles (F) -- 144,000 points + $933 + $30(cc). The classic was 144,000 plus $556.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Well under 10 minutes for a SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD flight by an agent that said "I've booked three of these already today!" It was remarkably easy, really. I read out the flight numbers where I knew there was U class availability (via ExpertFlyer) and it was all done and dusted, 48000 points plus $385 in taxes/fees for a JASA in U class. That's enough to get me easily over the line for WP requalification this year (the only year I won't be doing a DONE5 - I'll be back on the annual DONE5 gravy train from May 2014 again so won't need to worry.

All in all looking forward to it. Already planned dinner out on the Esplanade with friends whilst I'm there!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Date | Cabin | Route | Points | Co-pay | credit-card? | Max points cost (if known) | SCs earned | Classic co-pay*

25 December 2013 | J | BNE-CBR-MEL | 32,000 | $327.30 | + $7 | Max points cost (if known) | 160 (DSC) | Classic co-pay*

Rows 58 and 61 of the spreadsheet give $119.31 copay for CBR-MEL and $216 for BNE-CBR. So what you have looks very close to two separate JASAs rather than a true single one (which would be 24,000 points minimum).

I did ask why but was told 32,000 was the minimum even after a supervisor was consulted. Given some of the earlier discussions I have read here, perhaps BNE-CBR-MEL is one of the "indirect" routes where the classic rate does NOT apply, unlike MEL-SYD-ASP? Should I call again to try and get the difference back?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I just got told that my proposed JASA has to be booked as a classic award because to book it as a JASA one of the flights has to be a commercial fare. WTF!?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I just wanted to go to Broome. After picking the flights the agent came up with the ''commercial fare" line. I can't say I saw that coming so I was caught a bit off guard.
I'll just try again later.
