Has flying J ruined you?

I’ll pay $800 extra for an hour of J over Y. I just can’t handle the Y seats, too cramped don’t like sitting so close to others
I would rather take a Apple Watch in exchange for one hour of J. Or one Macbook 16 inch pro for 6 hours of J. But I can see where you are coming from.

I have tagged the Qantas price-setters for you @Qantas747

The phrase “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” springs to mind. In other words, what you would perceive to be wasted money or zero value will be money well spent and high value to someone else. Whether it’s purely a matter of comfort, or if it’s health/physical ability, or the simple fact that they’re well enough off to afford it etc etc, everyone will have their reasons for paying for a premium cabin. Or not, as the case may be. Each to their own.
There is value of course just that I value at it more like $50-75 per hour of domestic flight and even then I will consider if I want to save it for a international flight instead where value of taking J is higher.

Happy to fly Y for domestic trips and international daytime flights up to 8+ hours... otherwise it is J (or F) or I don't go.

Flew overnight Sq Y from Sin to Syd in Jan this year, and won't be repeating that experience in a hurry!

Having said that have never paid for a J flight ...either work pays or have used points so have been very lucky!

I wonder if the uber-rich have the same discussions, i.e flying on a private jet has spoilt me, can't bear to fly F anymore. 😅
Elon: Flying to outer space has spoilt me, I don't want to fly on Air Force🥇 anymore🤣🤣
Isn't it weird I still think of Tesla as a cool gadget car rather than a status symbol or fancy brand (as in I would pay $0 for their brand tax if I could)?

Pepper in some long haul Y every now an then, it's good for the soul. You will then appreciate when you fly J.

If flying Y I'll generally only do it for daytime flights, or eastbound overnights that arrive in the evening.

It is hard going back to economy after flying in business.

I've been fortunate over the years to have had a few business class flights plus a business class OWA, all thanks to points. I'd never pay full price for business class, unless I was rich which I am far from.

I've got an upcoming trip later in the year and I'm resigned to the fact that it'll probably be my last business class flights (MU, CX, CI and JL) for a while as I'll be dialling down my CC churning moving forward. No more churning 3 CCs per year!

I think I could handle regular economy for flights up to 9hrs (ie. Melbourne to HK), but anything longer it'd have to be premium economy minimum.

In short, yes. Mrs Nut thinks I'm a flog and a snob but just she quietly enjoyed the Qantas Sydney F lounge, the domestic J lounges and the other WP perks.
I feel keeping OWE is different to always flying J. Also generally a lot cheaper if you know what you're doing.

Having many of those perks are nice. My partner now doesn't question if i even raise the idea of a NZ status run. In fact depending in the season she might come along.

Comparing apples to oranges. But same. Complacent to forgo the J tickets and live on the F lounge alone. Would happily redeem them for cheap with points given the chance but I view that as a bonus rather than a necessity. Reason for choosingOWE instead of J tickets: the alternative is using the SYD J lounge. Might as well wait at the boarding gate
🤣🤣

Say, what?
Fine with giving up J redemption ticket but not giving up S&P squid access. Because @elanshin was comparing F lounge access to J tickets which also I tend to lump together in my head for some reason too even though the two are entirely different products (also the J lounge access sucks if you're flying out of SYD even with a J fare)
🤣🤣

I worry about my kid having never experienced long haul economy. He's growing up thinking business class is the norm. In a few years when he's tall enough to suffer, I'll book us some Y seats SYD-DXB-LHR so he gets to experience it 🙂

Good plan, but I'd keep myself in J and let him experience the whY.

I have four flights before the end of the year. All are VA J, on my own dollar. The longest is MEL-DPS-MEL. i would be happy enough on Economy X, but I’m trying to get to Platinum, which thanks to triple status credit I will.

The problem now is that, of course, I’m not getting younger. To hell with it, J or nothing from here on. It’s worth it just to avoid the elbow room battles.

Don”t put them in J. Just don’t do it. Do as the sweary chef does, put them in Y unless they pay for it themselves.

Our kids are doing long haul Y for the first time next week 😂 I think I'm more worried than them.
