Has QANTAS made the biggest marketing blunder of all time?

That's why I avoid Vietnam and Myanmar despite flights via those places are dirt cheap. (although also because of safety issues).

Vietnam? You can't be serious. The Vietnam war ended almost 40 years ago. It's one of the most stable countries in Asia! And yes, I have been there, which I suspect you have not ....

None of us can say, until the new timetables are released, and until we know what is going to happen with their arrangement with One World (they already say they will cut tie with BA).

Well, yes, actually, we can. Both QF and oneworld have made it abundantly clear that QF will remain in oneworld - it is one of the foundation members and much of its international business strategy is based on that - and therefore various links with BA, like codeshares via BKK and SIN, will continue. In fact, there is a new timetable out which shows the new service and the BA codeshares.

A question for those worried about flying over dangerous airspace.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the current QF flights between SIN and LHR and back fly over Afghanistan and the ME as it is?
As for the list of airliners shot down, the list is infinitesimally considering the number of flights taken (and not all of these have ended up crashing).

People are entitled to their opinions, but I feel that some are letting their own fears get in the way of what essentially is a positive move.

Each to their own.

Please do not alert the people to their irrational fears........ it makes it ever so hard for me to manipulate them without these fears embedded.

Not sure about how often QF overfly, but we sit in the garden in the evenings and watch lots of overflights of KBL. Have also been on a QF flight overflying Afghanistan. Haven't seen any of them shot down yet. The TB and HQN launch the occasional rocket but the targeting is laughably poor. If by chance they hit anything they claim it is deliberate ... As you would...

Cheers skip

Apart from the DHL freighter in Iraq and the Iran Air incident, I'm not sure how many jets (commercial/freighter) have been shot and hit around that area.

If flying 37,000 feet over certain countries is an unacceptable risk then I have a feeling there isn't much that Qantas could do to help them. Going off the standards of a lot of these people, it might just be a better idea to stay at home..

Surely the DHL flight is the only commercial flight that was hit by a "handheld" missile fired by a "terrorist"? This would seem to be the key question at hand.

I don't think it's the only one to be shot down by a hand held device as such.

My knowledge is limited but Iran Air was shot at from a ship. Korean Air by a plane. Not sure about the TWA one, if it was a missile. Any other commercial flights.

From memory TWA was listed as a faulty fuel pump, not a missile..
