Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

[SNIP]

qantas really are not that good at 'spin'. they should get a professional if they want to go down that path.

Exactly - if your first instinct/port of call is resorting to spin - at least make it clever/skillful and effective spin!

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

OK so all these changes are effective for travel on and from 1 July 2014. What about the booking date? That is, if I book travel on a partner airline between now and 30 June and complete travel by 30 June, will I earn Status credits and points at the current rates?

You will earn SC and points at the current rates up until end June 30th

The booking date is irrelevant for travel before 1 July. As you note the change earning takes effect from 1 July onwards. However, to answer your question the booking date is 29 March.

All travel before 1 July earns at the old rate.
All travel booked before 29 March earns at the old rate
Book from 29 March and travel from 1 July earns at the new rate.

Now, here's a though, if us all, every single one of the members of QFF in AFF, wrote a petition to QFF, realistically, I don't think they care, but, if the few thousands of us wrote in a petition, in my dreamy world, QFF might take notice.
If the (major) other airline company in Australia was sweeter, I would dump QFF, but the other one, is not all that much different, SC wise, Au to Nz, for eg.

Rightly or wrongly I've come to the belief over the years that despite all kinds of noise in social media and advertising and whatnot, business, and particularly big business simply follows the money trail. In other words, if enough customers vote with their wallets they will likely pay attention, otherwise they are far more likely to just make soothing noises and move forward with their ideas of financial 'improvement'

In fact argument could be made that unless large enough percentages of customers _do_ actually move to the competition then the original corporate fiscal plan was a goood one.

It can actually be less than 50% of SCs.
EG later this month we are flying JAL SYD-NRT and earn 140 SCs in J.After July 1 that becomes 60.
Virtually anywhere Asia to Europe is half the SCs if flying OW rather than QF.Slightly better % via HEL.Do they really believe we all should travel via DXB.

It's woeful indeed. Having flown out last month to LHR via DXB, then back CDG-HKG-SYD, I can tell you as far as flight timings and jet lag go, I'd take the Asian route every time. It's a shame QF can't seem to work out a way to make money from me, so it will go elsewhere. I will burn the remainder of the few hundred thousand points on FASAs to get to LTG, then fly classic awards on other more preferable carriers and routings. If you're in J/F, status doesn't really matter anyway. I will miss domestic business lounge but c'est la vie.

To add insult to injury, as an F pax I was made to wait 25 mins for a shower in DXB. Pretty pathetic. Barely had enough time before re-boarding.

That is the plan.

Well this little black duck will NOT be going via DXB ever again after the poor effort in relation to delays on QF10 this week. All my flying where possible will now be on SQ or other Star alliance airlines......

What they don't seem to get at QF is how many of us are trying every trick we can NOT to fly via DXB. I am (unhappily) prepared to sacrifice SC earn to go to Europe Via SIN/BKK/HKG.

And that is the nub of the matter, if people are resigned or prepared not to earn SC in the QFF scheme (whether by choosing to avoid DXB/avoid EK or not fly QF due to an abscence of service/premium economy or QF fares simply being uncompetetive) then the customer is in the position where they are already earning SC in another FF scheme anyway - whether its CX/AA/Star Alliance or even Sky Team. Once they get used to earning/crediting SC in another airline/alliance, then provided that airline does not screw up, that airline becomes a possible or even serious contender the next time people are choosing their carrier, and that carriers "burden" to retain the customer is slightly less than the first time that alternative carrier was chosen. Thats the design and beauty of loyalty schemes.

This is why the recent "simplification" of SC earn is so puzzling to me, as it is percieved by many as a massive "FU" to people flying other OW carriers like CX, AA, JL, BA, MH, AY etc etc

My last EU trip was on QF1/2.

My next one will be on SQ followed by CX*.

The timing is all wrong, the layover is way too rushed (a shower + a glass of fruit juice ---> off to boarding again).

I'd prefer a short followed by a longer leg, not the (QF) other way around. That way, your body has a better than even chance of arriving in a good shape.

Plus, I am not enamored with DXB where I feel it is a soul-less well-lit place.

Feel free to disagree as this is my personal opinion.

*: sadly, I could have chosen QFi for all these flights.

I AGREE re DXB soul-less and find people, as in locals, rather than immigrant workers, to be rude arrogant and looking down on foreigners. They couldn't organise a Pee up in a brewery.

If this is the way forward for the aviation world then please god help us :D
