Heads up about program changes

Noticed that seems unfair

Qantas is just putting on media "spin" calling the FF program changes "simpler and fairer".

All published changes are all about changes to earn rates for points and SC and Qantas is being very quiet about redemptions which is the other side of the Ff program.

If qantas wants simplicity then look at VA 5 points per $ spent on ticket with bonuses for tier status. Simple and fair.

RedRoo,

Can you please point me in the direction of the partners points earning table.

Can you also confirm that for partner flights booked prior to today but for travel post July will earn points and SC according to the earn rates that applied before today's changes?

Many thanks!

This is ridiculous SYD-NOU in D will now earns 60 SCs instead of 80. Even J and C will net 70 SCs instead of 80. I thought the whole point was to reward people who buy business class tickets.

Any suggestion that Qantas Frequent Flyer members were rorting the system by booking mASA's is incorrect and offensive. No one sought to gain an advantage at the cost of the airline -all bookings were approved by Qantas.

FWIW, I couldn't care less that mASAs are gone, but it's more about the sneaky way they were removed.

For me the biggest issue is reduction in points/SCs earn, and the fact that I am being told it is more fair and simple.

Fair's fair - does the Qantas marketing department take me for an idiot?

According to the "regions", Chicago doesn't exist.
Neither does UAE/Dubai...

This is pretty woeful.

QF fly to so few destinations internationally that we are forced onto OW partners. My primary destinations are Europe and South America, and getting there often requires OW partners. I'd fly QF if I could, but I can't justify paying the premium for a QF codeshare in many instances when you're not even flying a QF plane.

Secondly, while the full fare earns may have gone up, it is pretty damn rare (internationally) for anyone to buy those tickets because they are just SO DAMN EXPENSIVE.

I have already steered my credit card points away from QF....will now have to work out what to do with my domestic flying. Will likely continue with QF, but may direct the earn elsewhere. I've never really thought seriously about Virgin but now could be the time.

I certainly take the point that Qantas needs to make changes to survive but, from this layman, they are chipping away at the very things that could actually help the airline survive.
I don't know but perhaps you are right.

I see it slightly differently and I could be totally wrong. Qantas needs to be able to survive the next 4-5 years similar to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the USA. Changes like these need to happen and at least they are giving it a go.

It looks like a lot of us will lose. I may end up losing ~30,000-40,000 QFF points per year. But as I said earlier I do not like the alternative domestically. I would be depressed if I had to fly Virgin/Jetstar every week.

I do find this hilarious beyond any belief

Now the "financial cost" of a WP who may do 3-4 JASA flights to get WP plus another $2000 or more in other flights...

For these JASA flights they have burned say 200,000 points and approx $1600 in "cash" plus $2000 in other revenue

Now for any other "significant cost" they actually have to use more points and more "cash" to fly again, and the real benefit for them is access to a J lounge, or an F lounge, but hey if they had spent nearly the same as above in "cash" terms they would be very close to Qantas gold and have lounge access anyways.

Gold costs about $7000 if just buying regular fares, and not optimising via forums like this.

The scary bit is that among the Management changes announced "today"

"The 26 managers to go include the previously confirmed departures of Qantas Domestic chief operating officer Matt Lee following the airline's decision to opt for a single chief operating officer for its domestic and international operations. That job has fallen to Jetstar executive Andrew David, a former boss of Tigerair Australia.

So a Tigerair boss and Jetstar exec is now COO for Domestic and Int.

We are surely doomed!

Cut cut cut cut

So the email subject would be better stated:

"It's about avoiding bankruptcy"

That would have been better received!

Fair's fair - does the Qantas marketing department take me for an idiot?

Why yes, yes they do.

Looks like I'll gear the Credit Card earn around the AMEX Platinum Edge Card. Any tips re non airline affiliated Visa/Mastercards?

These tables are terribly confusing.

I'm QF LG and do 3 or 4 DONE4's each year. Do VF have a competitive RTW product or is switching to AA or CX better?

In saying that I tried to do a quick comparison of a RTW itinerary which I do quite a lot. The SC's seem to come out pretty much the same. Am I reading the table incorrectly?

Wow, they must have assembled this new table in 10 minutes... BNE-MEL is both a short and mid-range flight:confused:

They seem to have fixed it now, all short flights are exactly the same as mid flights

All those tables, definitely do not try to explain a 'simpler' frequent flyer program. This has definitely changed my flying behaviour, as I expect it will for most.

Those tables are doing my head in. Maybe I need to hit the sack.
