Yes I am, and have bought only Australian-made cars for the last 30 years. I will be very sad in a few years time when I can no longer buy an Australian made car.

If more Australians were prepared to buy Australian-made cars, and fly on Australian-based airlines, then a lot more of our fellow Australians would have jobs. But the whiners would all go on and on about having to pay more.

That's good of you however sadly a lot of people aren't willing to pay for things purely because it's supporting Australian jobs or is an Australian product. We unfortunately are way past that stage of supporting something Australian when there are alternatives which are better, cheaper, or a mixture of whatever other reasons. There's a big list of those companies which are now no longer Australian. QF may end up losing jobs but end of the day, according to our PM, those losing jobs will eventually find new jobs ... think about the situation down the track with Ford/Holden/Toyota et al.

Really?

I am off to the US in 2 weeks. QANTAS were $1200 more expensive than Cathay for an inferior J class product.

Are you telling me that you would be prepared to pay $1200 more just to keep Joyce in a job?

Should we now begin subsidising loss making Australian businesses, whilst wrapping ourselves in the flag?

Not a benefit to you. Fair enough. But others may well find it a benefit and won't appreciate your total lack of consideration for anyone else!

Really?

For someone so safety focussed, you seem ready to jump on board a demonstrably unsafe airline.

Since the question was primarily about cars; it's a big stretch to say they are better and cheaper.

Hmm John like your consideration of the poor waiter in the HK lounge trying to do his job as you wrestled the plate from him???????

For what it is worth....maybe slightly off topic

1) Cathay Pacific / QATAR Airways Expands Codeshare Service from mid-April 2014 - Cathay Pacific / QATAR Airways Expands Codeshare Service from mid-April 2014 | Airline Route
2) The Qantas Kangaroo Route a boomer for Cathay Pacific - No Cookies | thetelegraph.com.au

Strikes me as odd when people say it is Cathay not Qantas that doesn't play nice in oneworld. Cathay now have strong agreements with BA, AA, JL, QR, LA and AY.

QF on the other hand......

For those considering who to credit to in next few months can I note US have a bonus OneWorld promotion. Perhaps a more deserving place to direct than QFr though clearly everyones circumstance differs!

Care to explain, providing some facts, why JQ is so demonstrably unsafe?

Nasty reality....

I still remember when I got on to the Skybed Mk 2 after a few CX new J flights, I was extremely disappointed by what QF has on offer. I can't even begin to imagine how I would react if I had the Skybed Mk 1 instead.

It is a little unfair to compare a direct flight to the USA v going via HKG, which must be substantially longer. Personally I'd pay the $1200 just to avoid the extra travel time.

As for paying more to fly QF, it isn't actually solely Joyce's job on the line - there are a few other people working there too, you know..

How true! I've been shafted onto an A330 later in the year. LOL as if I'm going to put up with that rubbish :p

.

Depends where you live, if anyone for instance is in FNQ it adds about 3 hours than having to travel to a capital city to fly out to US or Europe, and to connect from CNS it leaves for SYD/BNE around 6am, so most overnight it. My case is different have many OZ mates who live in HKG and we love the place been going there for nigh on 40 years.

I've also found so many award seats close in out of HKG its not funny, recently booked 2 x EK J award HKG/DXB/VIE return - in Jan! for this May, try that on QFF. Of course going this way to US no LAX thank you, have choice of direct flights to YVR, SFO, ORD etc. or onwards to NYC on CX. And the good woman loves the J/F CX lounges in HKG and the shopping on the way home.

Not if you live in FNQ.... direct CNS-HKG, departs at a most civilised 1250. You then sit in the lounge at HKG, sipping G and T's for a few hrs before you depart.

The alternative?

CNS-BNE early to make the connection (0530 departure, how lovely......) and then BNE-LAX (lovely LAX...), a delay and then LAX-JFK...

For $1200 more....

Back in the days of JAL having BNE-NRT it was nearly 3 hours less total time flying BNE-NRT-JFK on JAL than BNE-LAX-JFK on QF.
Besides it was $6000 return on JAL and $9000 return on QF in J.
We did this from 2002-2009 when our son was in the States.
Boy I wish JAL woul reinstate BNE-NRT.

I am a Platinum and have been since it started and a lifetime Gold. Living in Adelaide there aren't and haven't been for quite some time international QF flights. Am booked business on Malaysian to go KL/Paris on the 26th June returning 21st July. So split SC's ? and what do I lose on the return leg ?....can anyone tell me ?
Also what is the best OneWorld associate to request a Status match with ?

Most are minor incidents. Bigger and better airlines have done much worse. Jetstar Australia and Asia have both very high safety ratings.
Airline Ratings

Ha ha ha!

Minor incidents?

Minor f'ing incidents!?

AIRCRAFT AT 700 FEET DESCENDING ON APPROACH WITH THE GEAR UP BECAUSE THE CAPTAIN WAS PLAYING WITH HIS MOBILE PHONE AND THE F/O WAS IN LA LA LAND!

AIRCRAFT ALMOST PLANTED INTO THE RUNWAY AT MELBOURNE ON GO AROUND, BECAUSE THE PILOTS COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET FULL POWER!

FLAPS FULLY RETRACTED ON GO AROUND AT CAIRNS!

The incidents indicate a pattern of general pilot incompetence, unfamiliarity with the aircraft systems and stress caused by over work.

Then the chief pilot tells anyone that complains to "Harden up Princesses".

Wonderful.
