what exactly are the benefits at 24000 SC's!? Is it access to some super secret club even more shiny than the Flounge?

Im imagining some kind of secret entrance with eye scanning technology and the guard being the most angry lounge dragon of them all.
24,000 SC. Platinum 10. Benefits: Become CEO for duration of status.

I assume serfty meant 2400. See here.

.....Since terminating their "alliance" with BA to hook up with EK, unless you're flying to LHR or LAX, they don't seem to give a toss about you spending $$$ with QFi.

Slightly tangential to the thread, I think

First booking for QFi stopover in DXB was on 31st March 2013.

Material (negative) changes to the QFF occurred on 27th March 2014.

Reading between the (downward sloping) lines, it seems the EK link up is not turning out to be the magic solution AJ was looking for.

A possible case of "better the devil you know . . . . ". Perhaps they should have more closely considered an "alliance" with CX (unless they did and discounted it?)

Aussies seem to really enjoy heading to Asia, and most I have spoken with who do fly to LHR, enjoyed the "cheaper" offerings on that final "stopover" - Dubai though, seems to be more in the "expensive" zone. Of course I haven't flown there, nor do I wish to, but I always enjoyed the chance to stop off for an extra day (or 2) in one of the Asian Hubs.

The alliance with EK has always had me wondering "Huh??", but I guess they had their reasons, possibly not well thought through ones though, if it ends going a*** up.

I am no clear how Qantas would know the exact booking date of a OW partner airline booking when made directly with that other airline.
So they may simply credit the new status credits for flights after July First and wait for the member to object with proof of the booking date if earlier than March 27th.

Here is an ad QF I assume uses which it pitches to entice a new company to offer QF FF points.

I really think QF need take a Good Hard look at the MEL/SYD > LHR earning table & revisit if they don't want leakage of loyal customer's to choose other airlines on this route!

You're totally right... there is so, so much competition to LHR that if anything they should be increasing the points earn on this route, not giving customers even more reasons to fly the competition!

As the video implies, Qantas knows quite a lot about you, and your behaviours. How hard would it be for them to pull the records on people that have done JASAs that invlolve a same day turnaround in Townsville, and have a look at their overall value to Qantas? I would say that Qantas have a pretty good handle on all these things. The game may have been fun while it lasted, but now to find a new game.....

My AA booking has the line 'ticketed on xx Month 2014'.

But after the administrative redundancies will QF have the staff levels to do such an analysis?

Or even reply to customer service emails?

Happy wandering

You are correct, but in the future Qantas seeks will those seats have bums in them or not...?

I suspect that it won't be long before it's just QF1 to London + the U.S. routes (last I heard they were making money on the U.S. routes still).

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking... QF1 (because the current government will NOT tolerate severing ties with the motherland), and the US (because QF has no viable competition per se, and therefore can charge like a wounded bull).

A perfect illustration why they canned them!
Actually, it's not so much to do with mASA's it's more to do with markets.

The standard J2RT return base fare to LAX ex AKL on QF is ~AUD10998, J2RT to LAX ex SYD is AUD16360.

Pay extra?

I have booked nearly a dozen JASA based pacific crossings between NZ and the USA.

Why? Net cost for me as a WP one way is ~59000* QFF points and about $400. Same booked as a classic is 112000 points and $550, The 260 SC's earned are nice and contribute towards "loyalty" bonus as well as additional bennies at 2100 or 2400[-]0[/-] SC's.

Return nett cost has been 118K and $800 compared with 224K and $950.

I found a sweet spot and have used it. It also helps that I do travel to the USA 2 or 3 times per year.

FWIW, I have life time Gold status.

* 84K one-way less all up points earn of ~25K
Serfty,

Do you consider going to LAX via NZ to be the best value JASA to get to LAX?

The way I see it, most QFFers don't follow their SCs and never even heard about MASA so the recent changes may get them a bit upset because the loss of points, but not upset enough to do anything about it.
The very few who are well informed are obviously very upset, like many on AFF, but most will keep flying QF when possible and credit their points to QFF. Some will move to VA or credit to AA but in the end of the day the price QF pays in lost of customer loyalty is minor compared the the money it will save by the recent changes.

Jack3193,
In your opinion what should the cost difference be between a 'classic' and 'MASA':?:
Artificial figures only but if if I spend 150,000 points on a 'classic' award plus the copayment and then an extra $800 to upgrade to a 'MASA' is that enough:?:
In doing this I earn 20,000 points and 220 SC.
If the $800 is not enough then what is enough:?: ie where is the cutoff that makes this viable:?: When answering bear in mind here that I am already using the 'J' or 'F' lounge due to the ticket type.

AND.. you have to do this about 6 times to get WP status. You end up spending nearly $5K more on the same seats compared with classic awards. For what extra benefit?

It is possible that Qantas may have done us a favour by eliminating the possibility of all this status chasing nonsense. It is going to save me a fortune. And I will still be cluttering up the J and F lounges.
