Heads up about program changes

Nope - I earn hundreds of thousands of points pa. from flying

Rough guide is that 20% base will be lost with this, PLUS the Plat bonus

YMMV but I see no real problem with these changes. Now if I was doing ASAs, status runs on other OW airlines I could see that my opinion would be different.

My QF travel scuttled before it even began.

Don't forget that AA have the bonus point challenge for the next month or two if you fly under your AA number.

Can you tell what this is about?

Yes my mileage earnt will vary by about 20-40% from these changes and the reduction in earn from flying

So I assume you always fly in J/F then

I am WP with both Qantas and Virgin until at least mid 2015 and Qantas LTG. I will see how things pan out with my travel plans and decide later in the year where my "loyalties" lie. I would have though with the current competition between airlines Qantas would be trying to win customers not loose them.

Hopefully Virgin won't follow suit as it is a great opportunity for them, domestically at 10 points per dollar for WP, Virgin has a great earn and their lack of fuel surcharges on international redemptions can save $100s of dollars on LAX fares for example.

I'm showing 196 users browsers now - wonder what the record is?

My 2 cents worth is that overall this is (mostly) a fair overhaul of the program by QF. The free ride to WP was good whilst it lasted (and I say that as a beneficiary!) but I think it makes more sense to reward those who provide more revenue.

PS Don't hate on me too much :p

I think I'm getting senile, I see the SC earn for partners but where is the points earn table for partners?

For some, prior to the change I would get for BNE-SIN return: WP earns 15256 points at present, after the changes 10400, thats almost $4000 of credit card spend difference on a 1:1 earn.

Well, to be fair it's 10400 in NOQ fare buckets, 15600 in KMLSG and 20800 in YBH
At the moment is 15256 in NOQKMLSGBHY

So the people who book in KMLSG are marginally better off, and the people who book in YBH are 1/3 better off.
The people who suffer are NBs in NOQ (7628 -> 5200) but QF doesn't provide lounge access or extra luggage etc. for those people, and WPs booking cheap fares (which probably cost QF more)

No wonder QF is in trouble. If they think that new earn table is simpler than the old one, they just have zero idea!

I understand changes need to happen. Just don't outright lie to me and tell me I'm better off and something is simpler when it just isn't the case. This is what annoys me more than anything else. Being lied to and treated like I'm a complete moron.

Ouch!

At face value these changes do not look good but once you get in a little further they are not too bad.

- Points earn for cheaper airfares has decreased which is not the end of the world
- SCs earn for domestic appears to be simpler using zones (and yes some of the routes such as SYD-CNS are going to suffer but again not the end of the world)
- SCs earn for partner airlines is reduced (I think this was to be expected)
- Any Seat awards gone (again I think this was to be expected)

I am hoping this thread did not turn into another any seat award thread as there are more important changes that require focus.

And at the end of the day if this means Qantas survives then I am all for the change. The alternative(s) domestically is/are a joke.

Well, the other way - giving stuff away without getting money for it - didn't seem to be working very well for QANTAS. Pay more - get more, at least aligns QF profit with benefits provided. Much as I don't like MASAs going away, at least this seems to be a more sensible commercial strategy, which gives a better change that QF might actually be around. No point having all these great WP benefits and MASAs if QF goes the way of Ansett.

I wonder will the QFF award redemption ranges, be increased to align them with the new SC earn ranges?

Not so worried about the current changes. I haven't used the MASA's, haven't undertaken status runs on QF or OW and don't earn QFF points through cc earn.

What I would have liked to have seen (yes because it gives me something) was a LTP level set. Something that QFF could give their most loyal long term members. There is WP1 for the current loyal QFF earning lots of SC's at the moment, but nothing for the long term WP or SG after LTG.
