Heads up about program changes

So if we credited to AA and flew QF say MEL-SYD how many points would one earn on a Red Deal and how many points would it cost to redeem for a one way MEL-SYD and what would the fines be?
A red e-deal in E class would earn nothing with AAdvantage.

With no status (Based on 439 GC distance):
- red e-deal in O or Q classes would earn 110 RDM (55 EQP)
- red e-deal in N, G or S classes would earn 220 RDM (110 EQP)
- L, M or V earn 220 RDM (220 EQP)
- H or K earn 439 RDM (439 EQP)
- Y or B earn 439 RDM and (659 EQP)
- J, C, D & I earn 549 RDM (659 EQP)

With AAdvantage elite status there's a 500 minimum base mile earn. Gold status gets 25% bonus, Plat/EXP get 100% bonus):

- red e-deal in L, M, V, N, G, S, O or Q classes would earn G: 625, P+: 1000 RDM (250 EQP)
- H, K, L, M or V earn G: 625, P+: 1000 RDM (500 EQP)
- Y or B earn G: 625, P+: 1000 RDM and (750 EQP)
- J, C, D & I earn G: 1049, P+: 1125 RDM (750 EQP)

Redeeming MEL/SYD in MilesAAver inEconomy costs 10000 Miles and USD12.60 +++, MilesAAver in Business 17500 Miles and that USD12.60.

However, one would not normally between MEL/SYD - the one-way points cost is the same for any route wholly within OZ and NZ.

For example, business AKL-PER via BNE would cost that same 10K in economy/17½K in Business with USD61.30 in +++.

As a contrast QFF would charge for AKL-xBNE-PER 30000 points in economy and 60000 points for business.

It also depends on the travel patterns. The average Australian would only fly a few times each year. Even if they flew on accruing classes for all flights, it will still take quite some time to be able to redeem an award. The QFF program allows for easy top-up from everyday activities (it's a lot more difficult to do so with other programs in Australia), and some would value being able to get a toaster or a voucher now rather than waiting for some years before being able to redeem for a flight. A friend of mine is in a similar situation, she thinks of it like a cash back system, and places a value of being able to extract the smaller benefits now rather than getting the flight some years later.

Or what if we credited to CX or MH wonder which one would represent the best value to the non frequent frequent flyer :)

I'm going to give CX a go for a while (not for red edeals, obvs). Will assess in a few months whether it is better than QFFP.

If status on OW not an issue (eg, LTG, achieved status for year, or simply don't care) has anyone considered Alaska's program? E class earns nothing, but everything else earns a minimum of 100% miles flown or 500 miles. Also flights count towards elite status on Alaska (FWIW) and also would get elite bonus (50% for lowest tier, 100% for highest two tiers).

I like the alternative thinking but AFAIK AS only has a few good sweet spots that are better than AA, and then there are limits, like can't fly AU-Asia (other than HKG) with AS as far as I know where as AA you can... ?

Flight bookings is one issue for sure. I'm talking about the FFP specifically though. People will get wise eventually to the fact that they can still fly QF but can choose another FFP to credit those flights to, and that other FFPs offer better redemptions.

not only that...it might also affect where people transfer their points from the credit card loyalty programs as well, so more loss of income

Which is why it will be interesting to see the QF annual financial results in August, not just for the first full year of the EK JV, but whether QFF growth is petering out...

As a result your credibility suffers.

Debating is not my strong point. C'est la vie. Doesn't make my points any less valid.

My opinion is based on fact. My experience may not be the same as yours and I definitely don't need someone (not you by the way) telling me I am imagining things.

It's funny how the public really only knew about the ramifications of this new QFF system (apart from via the email to the member base) was that the news actually ran a story on it! Rather dubious how such news makes headlines when there are people dying around the world, wars being fought and - perhaps - all the political unrest we are experiencing in Australia...

I wonder if BA might do a double take if it realises how many new applications it is receiving from people living in Austria? ;)

they might now that:

1) they no longer own 20% of QF
2) the code shares are (almost) all gone
3) the JSA is no more
4) the QF FF programme penalies them a lot
5) we all write and tell them we would welcome them as an alternative to QF whom we all want to drop

From what I could work out it took a lot more to get/stay OWE equiv and not really viable if already LTG.

I'm now starting to look at *A (unless BA return to Aus:if using BAEC now it would be such a shame accumulate lots of points only to have them cancelled for breaching he T&C by being resident in a banned region and having an address that is not my own)

I have been trying to work out why QF suddenly decided to degrade OW earning so much at this point in time. Some thoughts that come to mind:

The change to DXB/EK code share has been so unpopular that they are trying to push pax back on to QF rather than CX etc. To support this hypothesis I have found it impossible to book discount J on CX since the QF move to DXB and can now book discount J of QF all the time. Pre-DXB it was 100% the other way around

QF is thinking of leaving OW so is trying to ease us out of OW airlines and on to QF so we stay with them rather than OW post-split.

It makes no sense to degrade the attractiveness of a FF programme, especially for a virtual international airline and when the partner airlines will be paying QF for points

I think it's unlikely QF would leave OW or would OW let QF leave easily as both sides do have much to lose considering the benefits associated with being a part of one of the alliances. QF still have strong partnerships with AA, LANTAM and JAL. From OW's point of view, it would be remiss of them to lose such a valuable partner considering none of the 2 other alliances have a partner airline covering Australia (domestically anyway).

WHy then did nothing happen to stop the EK tie up when QR was just about to join and maybe OW should send a rocket to QF about the changes which definitely damage the alliance

No one has said you're imagining things. As was pointed you make broad all inclusive statements that are not support by the experiences of others; and are only supported by that something that happened to you once or twice.

But please show us the facts that support your opinion that virgin lounge food is childish and Qantas lounge food is excellent.

Hasn't AA also partnered up with EK? These partnerships outside an alliance are nothing new.

Same could be said for CX and NZ... though on a smaller scale. EK's not in a competing alliance, even if it is a competing airline. NZ and CX on the other hand.
