Hey Qantas, why is it that ....?

This relates to the number of seats permitted between UAE and AU as destinations, which is far less than the number of seats permitted between AU and GB. Supply and demand, basically.

This totally makes sense still when looking at it on the web it does strike you that for around half the distance one gets to pay more than a $1000 dollars more.

Indeed, it is very counter intuitive.

........that QF don't fly direct from YMML or YSSY to EGLL direct nonstop in 20.5hrs or use 777 - 8 series aircraft

This was discussed a while back on the Ask The Pilot thread. The general reason was that even if it was technically possible, e.g. With the 777-8 or another ultra long range aircraft, it is simply not commercially viable. The fuel burn would be horrendous, staff would run out of hours etc. etc.

Those ultra long haul routes are very expensive (esp with fuel) to ultimately save a couple of hours. There is a reason why SQ used to run it's SIN-US routes using an all J config...

Wow! Talk about completely missing the point!
I don't know why I'm even bothering to respond to this drivel but I have three words for you: Low Cost Carrier.
Stick with Tiger & JetStar, juz - we'll all be much happier!
Thanks.

Yes, you completely missed my point. Tiger and Jetstar serve food on the plane too, Emu, and I don't think they need to. The fact that Qantas includes a cookie as a 'meal' to justify themselves as a premium carrier is a joke.

Not to mention you'd need a lot more room in the plane for catering... and champagne

If you feel that strongly about getting food on planes, there is a simple solution, don't eat it... Even on QF, you can very easily say "no thank you" when they offer you a meal...

Of course this is when you discover that the seat has extra restraints, they tie you up and an FA then gets a spoon and says "open up, here comes the airplane" whilst force feeding you your dinner....

Red Roo....Why is it that the Ovo-Lacto vege meal in Y is still the same bland tasteless lentil pilaf that has been around for years? Also, why does dessert in an Ovo-Lacto vege meal equal a bowl of chopped fruit pieces when all other passengers get some sort of cake or something similar; what....vegetarians can't eat cake?!

could not agree more with this and similar posts. Why does QF offer the 1 vegan meal to everyone who asks for a meat-free meal? If QF offers lacto-ovo-vegetarian as an option then it should be possible to get this (not a vegan offering which is inedible). QF would not dare serve the vegan option to everyone so please serve what you purport to offer

For those who do not want to eat , that is your choice. Please respect our choice to book a full service ticket and want to make use of full service. The meal actually costs very little so providing a proper full service meal is not a financial burden. When I travel it often involves being en route to/from the airport or in the air at a meal time and having a meal in the air is really helpful in helping me to manage my time and not eating junk food when I finally get home/to the hotel at 2030 or later.

As to other comments about long haul food: it has certainly got worse since the advent of DXB flights. The small/large plates are not a success, the food quality and variety is poor and the freshness questionable.

Finally, on the food front, QF promotes itself at the spirit of Australia. Why is it then that QF does not support Australian producers? Bottled water can be from anywhere in the worls (I had American water on LHR-DXB); butter is lurpack etc etc. Australia has fantastic quality food and drink producers. Why not support them? Other major airlines do; e.g. BA ship Highland spring water around the world: this is the only water they serve.

On the matter of the spirit of Australia, why are the amenity kits not Australian? We have fantastic Australian'made prosucts (e.g. Jurlique and Aesop). Why does QF use American and French brands? (for those who do not use the kits: that is your choice; please respect those of us who do use them, I find then increasingly imortant in these days of liquid restrictions).

LAst question for red roo: why is the handwash in the loos on board so astringent? The cabin air is very drying, the handwash even more so. Not washing hands is a hygeine risk (could this have contributed to the food poisoning mentioned earlier) and cracked skin from bad quality handwash is also an infection risk. Providing a safe, effective hand wash is not expensive

Only if the spoon is in the shape of a little aeroplane, with little wings, a little tail and...

Um, I assume you are Australian yes??

Let me ask you, the television in your house - where was it made? How about your car?
I assume then that everything in your house is australian made??

No doubt you will now go on about how Australian products are always more expensive than overseas made products and not necessarily any better. Hmm...

its not an entirely unreasonable point to think qantas would showcase australian products out of Australia.

at foreign ports I would expect them (or the catering company) to use whatever is available locally, or if the quality is not up to standard, a reasonable alternative that doesn't require shipping half way around the world (think of green credentials here).

as was pointed out above, British airways does a pretty good job of showcasing British products and produce. (yeah they have some weird stuff toothpaste and mouthwash but I can look past that :))

we are supposed to produce good dairy, good wines, good meats. why not showcase it?

I think where possible, qantas would use australian made products for perishables on flights departing Australia.

However, as I suggested earlier Australian products as a rule are generally more expensive than those produced overseas, and these costs would no doubt be passed on to the consumer. Operating in such a price conscious industry, this would be suicide for qantas. I doubt people would be willing to pay more of a premium than they already do to fly qantas just because it exclusively used australian produce.

...but that Australian butter you're having with your breakfast on approach to Dubai had to be shipped half way around the world to get there :p.

why is that 'customer feedback' suggesting the new website is great, or 'customer feedback' suggesting the new deli breakfast is great, or 'customer feedback' suggesting a combined first/business class lounge might be great in Hong Kong (similar to the Singapore lounge)...

are treated differently and given more weight than:

...'customer feedback' complaining about excessive fees and charges on award bookings, or 'customer feedback' complaining about unfair booking fees for transactions that cannot be completed on line, or 'customer feedback' regarding seemingly excessive credit card fees?

You can buy one red Q tag for the discounted price of $29.95 but two for the price of one costs $49.95?

Hey Qantas, why is it that….
An interesting thread…
When I receive my new Gold or Platinum status card each year (for over a decade now) and I’m told I have complimentary Qantas Club membership until my status changes, why am I not recognised as a Lifetime Qantas Club member since the early 1990s and, therefore, not receiving any additional benefit at all? I’d be quite happy with a simple acknowledgement of my loyalty. The same applies to my wife.

I'm in the same boat Blangfor.

Have been lifetime qantas club member since the 90's, and get nothing for my loyalty. Hence the complimentary qantas club membership i get for being gold/platinum is useless. I would think something could be done for lifetime qantas club members, such as ability to give the complimentary membership to family member, or be given points/flight upgrades instead.

Also wish they would introduce lifetime platinum status, give me something to aim for!

We'll you are getting exactly what you paid for, lifetime access to the QP... When your status drops below SG, you will still have access, unlike a normal SG who on getting PS will lose out on QP access. How is it any different than a QP member who is flying international J. Technically I'm getting no value from my QP membership that day as I already have lounge access by virtue of flying J. Should I have gotten a little extra because on that day my QP membership was "going to waste"
