HHonors Gold/Diamond for Velocity Gold/Plat

Yep, last year after March I dropped from Diamond to Silver (as I only had 11 stays in 2011).

I invoked my VA WP Diamond benefit immediately and the member card that eventually arrived shows a Diamond Expiry of March 2014.

I just got VA Gold but I'm very likely to go Plat in the next few months. I'm guessing that my best bet is to go HH Gold now then use my Plat benefit to go Diamond after April of 2014... does that maximize the value?

Increase it yes, but to maximise (assuming VA don't can the benefit in the interim), read on below.........

Given past evidence, if you apply for HH gold now (or with the 1 April safety factor if you prefer), you should have gold through until 31 March 2015. If the diamond offer comes through with plat, theory being a wonderful thing suggests you may be able to sit on that offer until 1 April 2015 and have HH diamond then until 31 March 2017.

Of course, anything could change in the interim.

Aye... I have a Euro trip coming up that Gold might be useful for, that should see me qual cough Plat.. then I have an LA Vegas trip planned for July... from what I'm reading Gold don't get much by way of benefits in those locations so I might be tempted to pull the trigger on HH Diamond for that trip ... seems like a waste though...

I was of the belief that the HH complimentary diamond match through Velocity Platnium was only for a 6 month period, see below in italics for details as taken from the Velocity 'My Benefits' link for complimentary HH membership.

Has anybody that has taken up the complimentary Diamond match been comp'd for longer than 6 months without any stays. ?
I would like to utilize my HH diamond match for Dec 13 but don't want to take up the offer until July this year to be within the 6 months complimentary period on offer.

'As a Platinum Velocity Member you can enjoy complimentary Diamond Elite Membership in the Hilton Honors Program for a 6 month period. And if you stay 4
times at any Hilton Worldwide property within the 6 months your complimentary membership will be extended out to 12 months'.

I first used mine in Nov last year after activating it in 2011, but there have been at least one loss of status report. If your not going to need it until later it makes sense not to activate it under the 6 month window to be sure.

I went platinum in Feb and applied.. All I got was HH blue status.. The same for the Hire car offer with Hertz, I only got signed up at the lowest level..

Has anyone else had issues with getting this offer..

I had issues with Hilton as they managed to create me sperate gold and diamond accounts.... but a few calls to VA and Hilton and it was sorted.

For reference, I applied in Feb and got itjust in time for my first Hilton stay on feb 18. Took about 10 days to process. I tried to hurry them up given the impending stay but the call centre had no info on the promotion. They actually offered me some points instead (gladly taken) as they thought I was after another promo which I had apparently missed???! Oh well, gave up and sat and waited thinking I'd follow up after the trip.

I got no notice until I checked in and got the welcome letter indicating I was diamond. So that was good for me...then About a week or so later I got a gold card in the mail, then a week or two after that I got a diamond card. Expiry mar 2015. According to previous posts, I was expecting a 2014 expiry. So maybe I got lucky? Anyway, completing the fourth stay soon so should be right to hold onto it based on the t's and cs.

When I first got VA Gold I got the HH gold as well. 6 months later I made VA plat, and as a result HH Diamond. My work flying has dropped off considerably nowhere near what I would need to requalify for plat. This means that I will drop down to VA Gold in July. My HH diamond is valid to march 2014. When I drop back to VA gold do you think I will be able to get the HH gold offer once more ?

I had full breakfast as a gold at Hilton queenstown. I am HH gold. I was upgraded to a lake wakatipu suite.

Short answer is no. HH do not do soft landings either so if you don't have the stays then straight to Blue for you. :(

Unless things change, then, yes.

I did when I dropped to SG last year, but haven't activated it as I am still Diamond.

Still Diamond, although I did do about 6 stays last year, although not 4 in the first 6 months or whatever the requirement was

I don't remember it showing up on 1st April previously. Takes a few days.

Given the fact mine has been saying "To maintain Gold status in 2014, you need 15 more stays." since the start of the year, I would expect that I still have my current Gold till March 2014 in any case.
