Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I now check the hotel's booking avails on the day she checks in. Every single time at Sydney Hilton there has been suites from the basic relaxation suite up to the big king suite. Should I just get her to ask for one on check in ???

I would, but if she isn't in the right mood, I wouldn't tell her the availability :o

Or get her to ring you and you can explain the Diamond benefits to the check-in staff ;) :D

I'd pay a HUGE premium for a disappearing SWMBO room! ;)

I believe that's paying rack rate for a room which is too small (i.e. she walks right out and demands a better one). The buyer is usually termed a "sucker".

Had a great experience at Sydney recently as a Gold: lounge access, breakfast + after I told them we were celebrating my wife's birthday they sent wine and chocs to the room. On checkout I made sure I tracked down the lady who checked us in to thank her again ...and again.

Hi ausbt,

Did you have to ask for lounge access at checkin or before you arrived they already upgraded you?

Thanks,
K.

From recollection, when I arrived at check-in I pulled out the Gold card, put on my warmest and most thankful smile and said "as a Gold, I believe I am entitled to...".

At HSW a little earlier I recall just pulling out the Gold card at check-in and without asking they gave me an exec floor and thus lounge access.

Both of these rooms were booked at the most basic level AND subject to the recent 30% (I think) sale, so they were an absolute bargain really.

You got nice upgrades there :) Can I ask were these weekend stays?

HSW was mid-week and Syd was a Friday night. Yes, I really did get that warm fuzzy feeling so what can I say - Hilton keep up the good work as you've gained yourself a customer! (these were actually my first two stays - I joined HHonors once I was status-matched at Virgin) :D

nice :) I live in SYD. May take my family to stay at SYD hilton for a couple of nights where the redemption levels are attractive :) Do people actually do this? Based in the same city as the hotel and staying there for a couple of nights :)

I live just over 5 minutes drive from the Sydney Hilton, and I have "staycations" there regularly. I get treated there well - with the Hilton Macquarie discounts, a decent rate (especially the Great Getaway rates!), and both Executive Lounge drinks, upgrades and breakfast in Glass, it's a winner for a night out. No kids for me though.

I live more than 5 mins away but have stayed there for my birthday. I was going to stay when a friend had a wedding in the city but $700 or 565,000 points for one night seemed steep... Stayed at the Marriott for 30K points.

I might be thinking of doing this more if we can get the MIL to have the boy over night...

Yes they do - because that's exactly what I was doing! (it's my hometown as well). Had a really good night actually, kicked off in the lounge and then did a 'small bar crawl' around the traps, ending up in the Marble Bar till the wee hours. Then a sleep in and brekky - can't beat that !

I live on the Gold Coast and I've stayed at HSP about 4 times since it's opened........we're renovating, so a small stay away from home helps retain our sanity, not to mention one stay where we teamed up with a bunch of lunatics who flew in for a Chrissie in June event! We're also booked for Christmas day so we don't have any mess at home (well, no more than usual).

Cool! Maybe I will book a night or 2 in Jan :) Do you guys just go by public transport when staying in the same city hotel or you actually drive there? :) Parking is too much in Sydney CBD where the Hilton is! I might take the train lol.

Valet parking was $56 I think and self-park $40, per day. Yes, expensive for sure but in terms of Sydney-prices it could be worse. If on a weekend I'm pretty sure you will find other car parks around $25 per day a few streets away. During the week? ...you don't want to know!

lol yep sydney parking prices are a bit crazzzyyy. May park in an area near the hilton.

If you are going to enjoy yourself in the city don't worry about the cost of Valet parking!

 How does that work? I thought Hilton redemptions were all in set 'bands' for different properties e.g. 40K, 50K etc, with 50K being the top level (L7 I think?) - the odd exception aside. That above reads a bit like QF ASAs with the 'price' rising to crazy levels the closer you get to the date.
