Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Has anyone (other than drron, whom we know has) gotten an upgrade to a suite at Hilton Brisbane? It seems they are very thin on the ground.
I have the once. Hilton briz has the highest occupancy of any Hilton worldwide.. From memory it's over 94% year round. There can afford to be lousy re upgrades and specials etc. the lounge staff re great but I've been staying at the Marriott in briz of late .. Better drinks, snacks, Friday night coughtail of the day etc.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I wonder why they have the highest occupancy???

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Lack of competition most likely. No really new decent hotels in briz for years. Mantra south bank was the last decent sized one. Heard a story that Virgin were planning to buy the mantra chain. Anyone else heard that one?

They apparently didn't put in a bid-
Suite talk is all positive

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Thanks drron.

Its probably as much to do with the managements perception of local competition for elite customers as anything else.

If they felt that their status customers were being stolen by the local SPG or IHG then they'd probably feel a more urgent need to review their treatment of the chains elites. As it is, I suspect their bookings are good and they are (obviously) not feeling the need to show their elites much love ... but are still bound, of course, by the minimum requirement of the wordwide chain.

Its a flawed strategy in my humble opinion, because even though it may appear to work in the short term, it causes your most loyal customers to start looking, seriously, at the competitions offerings, something that can never really end well for you as a business.
No problems there - no IHG or SPG properties to worry them (albeit only lost Holiday Inn last week - but it really wasn't much competition).

I have, but it has been years.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I wanted to throw this out there... Not complaining, just observing.
MrsF has stayed at the Sydney Hilton, HSW & HOP as a diamond now for the last 11 months. Off the top of my head, she has stayed at Sydney Hilton about 9 times this year alone, HSW X 5 and HOP X 5 and for every stay books an exec room (as per her corp travel policy allows). They are booked direct with Hilton
Only ONCE has she received a suite upgrade and that was part of a service recovery by HOP....
To contrast, when rooms have been booked in my name as a Diamond member, I am 4 from 5 in getting upgrades to a suite from a standard room this year.
She is currently at Sydney Hilton & got nothing as a welcome.... Not a card, a bottle of water or anything... let alone a suite.
I checked and there were, and are, suites available all week.

Could this be a female/male thing?

Many years back I was Diamond consistently year to year, and stayed at Hilton Brisbane once or twice a year, often on points redemption stays. I had several suite upgrades then, even on the redemption stays. But I fell from Diamond back to Gold about 4 years ago and have not stayed at this particular hotel since dropping back to Gold status.

Wondering also, how did you get Diamond and how did she?

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

We are both Diamonds via Velocity, but MrsF will requal easily. She has a total of 19 stays so far this year with 10 more already booked, plus the usual short notice ones....

Is MrsF booking directly herself or is the company booking corp discount room? If the company is getting corp discount then maybe Hilton only give corp booked room.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

As per last line of your quote, they are all booked direct with Hilton.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Sorry I missed the Diamond thing.

That is really very strange - and for it to be so consistent across the properties as well.

I have had 30 stays since becoming diamond in September last year  (well it was a  to me) and since being Diamond my profile of upgrades has been:

Code:
Property	No	Yes
Adelaide	1
Beijing 1
Brighton	1
Brisbane	1
DBL West End	1
South Wharf	1	7
On the Park	5	8
Jeddah 2	2
Waldorf LDN	1
Grand Total	14	17

And the OTP lack of upgrades was before the policy changed early this year.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Hilton South Wharf, always got exec lounge access.

HH GOLD
Various stays at Hilton Cairns over past 12 months and no access to lounge granted but allowed breakfast in main restaurant.
As such have moved our stays away from them.

Hilton Cairns on the other hand as a Gold no lounge access.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Thats why I am querying the male/female thing....
I cannot find any other reasonable explanation as to her lack of upgrades.
She is not one to make a fuss at check in though, so put's up with it.

Have you stayed more frequently at the property compared to her, or have you been a Diamond (or HHonors member) longer than her?

Only way to check whether it may be a "gender" or just a "you're more the favourite than her" thing is to both of you check into the property on the same day but with separate bookings. A bit of a superfluous experiment, admittedly :)
