Hmm the option of the "mattress run" sounds fun but rather in convenient, knowing the group i'm going with might be lazy checking-in and out multiple hotels.
Does booking individual nights so each night has a separate booking reference and "stitching" them up work in that case?

- so 2 rooms 2 with separate bookings counts as 1 stay as well.

i should have enough for a diamond then if i flip between Hilton Barcelona and DoubleTree Barcelona. If not I shall remain a lowly gold if my travelling companions object

Thanks. Yes, the Melb option is a good idea. I just booked a stay at the DoubleTree for 22,000 points in mid June. I think Diamond for an extra 21 months is worth that number of points. It's possible some other work trip will come up between now and 25 June, and if so if I could always cancel this additional one.

So I completed my 8th "stay" the other day, and just got an email from hhonors to confirm my Diamond states is extended to March 2019. Thanks again for the suggestion SYD.

Well done! I'm going to be lucky to squeeze in 4 stays after a Euro trip was cancelled. Still, happy if I can keep Gold.
