Applied for SM on the 29/6 using newly acquired Accor plat- notification came through overnight of successful upgrade to diamond

Had dropped down to HH silver so nice to have the diamond card again.

Received my card in the mail today. Comforted to see valid until Mar 2018 in print. All good.

Thanks for posting! I just applied to match Accor Gold, the T&C say that Hilton status will be valid until end of March 2018, that's great.

That's what I thought.

Received email that I haven't travelled enough in 2016 but since I was Diamond they will bump me up to Silver status. I thought status was valid until March 2018.

If you didn't requal diamond in 2016, by March 2017 you drop to blue (or the level reached by stays/nights/points achieved). By the sound of it, you didn't reach the required milestones by the end of 2016 to retain diamond, gold or silver, which would normally see a drop to blue by the end of March 2017.

On the other hand, if one attains diamond for the first time in 2016, they retain that diamond for all of 2016, all of 2017 and then on to the end of March 2018. There is a difference between attaining and retaining status!

Still have a Virgin Gold compilmentary request from a year or so ago. Will wait a few weeks and should get Gold status until March 2019?

Ahh, that's your answer JohnK. You received the balance of 2015, all of 2016 and up until March 2017. Standard HH modus operandi I'm afraid. Is your account showing silver now?? I'd assume that despite the email, you'd retain Diamond until the end of this month if previous years are anything to go by. That email is new (mine came out some time ago) which I wondered whether that was signalling a shift away from the 30/3 grace period. This silver soft landing also seems like a new gesture (perhaps a trade off if 30/3 is no longer to be expected).

Sometimes, but in this game, you're usually far better off pulling the trigger when you can!

That's new as well, isn't it? Seems like HH are making a number of changes of late. Let's hope there are not many detrimental ones.

You don't need to wait until April of a calendar year to apply for a status match.
The year resets on 1st January, so anyone applying from then onwards gets 2 years and 3 months ending 31st March in the third year.

I would say it is worth waiting until April when the downgrade from Diamond to Silver occurs. i am not sure any good come come from applying a Gold status offer while you are Diamond!

Oh not at all, in the case of JohnK but for those with less than Diamond or no status at all, there is no benefit waiting until April 1 of any year to trigger a match.

Ah, unfortunately I've only had one year of diamond.... thanks to a status match, so not quite eligible.
