Hilton discontinues Points & Fixed miles

Sure got mine. Hilton are doing their best to antagonise Honors members. First the points devaluation, then the changes to the Macquarie card, and now this!

Am I the only one that uses points+variable miles?

It's probably because when I go away I stay at least 5 nights....

I alternate between pts+var and pts+fixed depending upon the length of stay and expected $ spend!

With the changes to the base point status qualification this year, my whole way of earning has changed to no. of stays hence a predominent preference for pts+fixed. I'm guessing I'm far from being Robinson Crusoe hence the removal of pts+fixed.

And let's not forget that the devalued points have become harder to come by as well! The bonus offers this year have been miserly compared to previous years.

I have been receiveing a monthly Email 'statement' for most of the year - November's came yesterday. Notification on this was in a small paragraph:

Upcoming Update to HHonors Earning Style Options
In January, we will simplify our Earning Style Options based on member preferences. Points & Fixed Miles will discontinue and members with this option will earn Points & Miles™.

So I have 3 stays on 1 January, 2 January and 3 January in BKK. I should still receive the 3,000 VS miles + 6,000 bonus VS miles with the promotion.

Not sure what is going to happen going forward.

Anybody know what will happen with QANTAS (who only do fixed miles) when the new rules come in?

I sent an email asking this a few days ago but have received no response.

Qantas will convert from fixed 1,000 points per stay to 1 point per USD spent on eligible folio.

Virgin Australia will earn 2 points per USD.

Of this is true then bye bye both QF and VA :)

Well that's some news and better than nothing.

Velocity is interesting earning at twice the QFF rate.

FWIW, I have been quite accustomed to crediting to, say, AAdvantage when staying at a Hampton Inn where fixed miles for QF/VA haven't been an option in any case.

I have been trying to find public reference to this.

Does anyone know where I might find it.
