It used to be a great program but 200-300 QFF points instead of 1,000 combined with the recent devaluation of HH points (70k for HSP anyone???) means it is now almost worthless.

So what are most people going to do?

Not change?

For the QF people, switch to AA instead?

Just do HH points + HH points?

I really don't know. It is a great way to extend AA points but is there better value?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Points are not everything and there are some good value redemptions out there still.

Status is useful - hilton has some decent benefits, even at mid range.

I am thinking to generally credit to VA.

I had considered HH points to be near worthless long before this latest change. They're not totally pointless (pun intended) but certainly nothing to get excited over. I'm just very happy that we were able to score a great value holiday before the rot set in!

I'll still credit to VS.

The HH points used to hold some good value before the latest change. I was able to score a villa at Conrad earlier this year for 35k points per night when staying 4 nights and now with the new system it's 95k :(

It became almost impossible to find good deals with points at high end HH hotels.

Devaluation is a fact of life, although there are some gems around, looking forward to 5 nights at the DT KL next month for 40000 which was originally 20000 VS miles. The fact as a Gold I get Breakfast and I suspect lounge access makes for a cheap stay, not to mention the supermarket in the basement if I get peckish.

The latest change I was referring to is the removal of fixed miles, not the devaluation in points from earlier this year.

Fixed miles gave 1,000 QFF points per stay which equals to ~4 points per dollar for stays in Australia. This was a not bad compared to other hotels who offered max 3 points per dollar. Now it's really bad.

A last hurrah with a 1 nighter at Hilton NRT at 9000 yen.Good value but the last of it's kind.

Maybe worth noting with the change that some airlines have a smaller cap on points allowed to be earned each stay than the usual 10k limit.

I thought I'd be tricky and get Iberia points (1.5avios/$) for a recent stay that had an eligible base rate of $1112, with the goal of switching them to BA for redeeming later. Instead of 1668pts I expected I got 1000. Lives and learn. If I'd known though I would have used my BA or AA account (though in this case I only 'lost' 100 airline miles - the extra amount that would have gone into those - so not too miffed).

Will probably just stick with VA if they keep their 2:1.

This is the section from the HH website.

BTW How long would you have to stay to get 30k NZ Airpoints?

Members may only accrue up to 10,000 airline miles per stay (or the equivalent currency of the airline Marketing Partner), except with respect to Home2 Suites by Hilton which limits accrual to 100 airlines miles per stay (or the equivalent currency of the airline Marketing Partner) and except with respect to the following airline carriers: Aeromexico - up to 20,000 kilometers; AIR MILES Canada - up to 1,000 reward miles; El Al Israel Airlines - up to 250 airline Points; Iberia - up to 1,000 airline Points; LAN - up to 20,000 kilometers; Virgin Atlantic Airways - up to 20,000 miles; and Air New Zealand- up to 30,000 Airpoints dollars

I received that email as well. It has been a long time since I credited Hilton stays to Qantas.

Anyway nothing like being re-assured about something that is not that exciting....

I want to change to Points & Fixed Miles for a one night stay tomorrow - posting to QF.
I should be able to make this change, shouldn't I? When I select Points & Fixed Miles and hit submit (QF is already set as "Preferred" Airline partner) I get an error
Please select an option

Maybe it's already shut down (even though the date is supposed to be 6 Jan) :(

I still see the option there, but there's no text indicating further unlike P&P and P&VM:
Choose a My Way™ Earning Style. Select this option to earn free hotel stays faster:

  • Earn 10 Base Points, plus an additional 5 Bonus Points per eligible US dollar spent. Exception applies at Home2 Suites by Hilton™, where you earn 5 Base Points, plus 2.5 Bonus Points per eligible US dollar spent. The fastest way to turn points into free stays.

Or select a Double Dip™ option to earn points and miles:
( ) Points and Variable Miles
  • Earn 10 Base Points, plus 1 mile per eligible US dollar spent. Exception applies at Home2 Suites by Hilton™, where you earn 5 Base Points, plus 1 mile per eligible US dollar spent. Also, some travel partners offer different mile amounts per eligible US dollar spent — see variable miles by travel partner for details. Limited to up to 100 miles per stay at Home2 Suites by Hilton™.
(*) Points and Fixed Miles*
