Hilton Honors discussion

not been with hilton too long, but i cannot see when its worth buying points (with the current 100% bonus)

is it that I'm only looking at the "cheaper" properties and therefore it doesnt make sense?

i looked at hilton garden inn in singapore, just paid cash
now looking at Hilton Nadi Fiji (not the doubltree) and its coming to about the same price if I pay cash vs using points even with the 5th night free
I have never worked out the value of buying HH points but it doesn’t seem very good.

As a sideline. The H DT in Nadi is excellent and much better value than the Hilton. It’s drawback is that it’s not centrally located.

thanks, I did consider the DT. however with a 3yo and straight after a 3-4hr flight want to keep the travel a minimum.
is there a ferry to get across?

The time to the DT vs the Hilton is almost the same, just in a different direction. ie slightly further but a faster trip.

They provide a 24hr service to/from the island.

Since the DT opened we have stayed there a few times and at the Hilton only once. Checkin and convenience at the DT is much quicker.

We believe there is no comparison and will always stay at the DT by choice. Also if you stay at the DT I can send an email to one of the duty managers to hopefully get you better recognition. (The GM left recently and I don't know the new one)

That offer will seal the deal then. Will PM you. I'm not going till March though so still ages. Thanks

Buying Hilton points at the rates offered can often be poor value. I value Hilton points at 0.4 cents each.

Depending on the property, the points value can be more or less. Rather than just buy the points at the bonus rate, it’s probably better if you have a stay in mind for the near future.

The only benefit I see is when you are just short on points when booking a property for 4 nights to get the 5th free.

is there a promo for buying points? I need to book conrad osaka around new years and its over $1k right now

Hopefully I'm not derailing the topic but I applied for gold once reaching Velocity gold and it took a while to activate. It states within the app that I'm HHonors gold as of 30/4/19. How can I tell when it will expire presuming I don't meet the requirements to maintain that tier? Is it like Velocity in that its a year from the date you reach it or will I loose it at the beginning of next year? Thing is I reached platinum Velocity shortly after (thanks family pooling) but I guess it doesn't upgrade the HHonors membership? I did receive a room upgrade at the Hilton in Tel Aviv and also in Adelaide and the bonus points are quite nice. Still need to figure out of its worth redeeming points for stays with Hilton or if converting to airline points is better.

Based on other posts it seems to work on the usual HHonors year.

You have the status for the remainder of the calendar year in which it was achieved, then for the following calendar year, plus an extra 3 months (1 Jan to 31 Mar). So, it would seem that you would remain HHonors Gold until 31/3/21, on that basis.

I had Hilton Gold by virtue of Velocity Gold. When I hit Velocity Platinum, the VFF portal had the ability to get Diamond HH, so I did it and it worked a treat. It won't happen automatically but you have to apply - I think you are only entitled to this offer once, but I got it twice as I've read others have as well.

Not sure if there’s a more appropriate thread for this. Some will already have seen it on Loyalty Lobby.

Anyway, (from sometime) this year, it seems that the Hilton website will show progress towards lifetime diamond status:

I got an email in February 2018 saying a tracker would be available “by the end of the year” (ie 2018). I’m not holding my breath!!

Yes, it’s been on it’s way for a while now. Thought that I would post the latest information. Anyway, still may be a work in progress. 😉

Yea, hopefully close. How hard can it be?

On another note, I just saved $300 for a three-night booking in Adelaide by making two bookings (2 & 1 night) rather than one (3 nights). Has anyone come across anything like this before? I only noticed the discrepancy by accident.

Yes. And at that same hotel. Although not $300. My experience is that it is more likely to occur when there are big events on like the Tour down under or Fringe festival which severely impact rates.

Always worth checking single night rates using flex dates search, for multi-night stays.

If a certain room type, or rate type isn't available for all the nights you want it won't be shown
