Hilton Honors discussion

You don’t get emails any more but the NOR1 upgrades are definitely visible after a booking in the HH App
I received an email last year after booking the DT London Victoria on points. I went back to check if they sent something for a points booking. It didn‘t have the specific eUpgrade offers just “click here” to see offers thing.

But, yes you can access the same through the website / app for existing bookings. I have two future revenue bookings in the system and both have the “Upgrade” button.

Is late checkout (or early checkin) not a benefit of Hilton Gold or Diamond membership? I just had a read through the benefits listed on the Hilton website and was surprised not to see any mention of this.

Could be mistaken but I don't recall ever seeing early check-in as even a "subject to availability" benefit.

Late checkout is listed in the published T&Cs as on request and subject to availability.

It's very much hotel dependent.

In my experience there's usually no early check in fee, if your room is ready they will give it to you, or will give you another room if it's available. At some hotels (such as Hawaiian Village) there's an option for early check in for $50, but when I tried that they said the room type I selected wasn't available early and they'd have to downgrade me (I opted to drink Mai Tais by the pool for 3 hours after flying QF103 in Y). So really it's just a case of the room being available.

I've checked in as early as 0900 with no fee.

I can't ever recall being denied late check out, but often it's only 1-2 hours.

To be honest, when I stay at other hotel chains holding no status, I still get late check out for free, so the whole "on request subject to availability" is a bit of a cheap bonus. That said, I have been denied late checkout at several hotels where I don't hold status.

Have checked in early a few times (US locations, service perhaps better than other countries) without any problem but yes, not a published benefit.

Depending on occupancy, availability on the day, the hotel’s own policy and whether you are their frequent guest. I’ve managed early check in before 10am and my record for late checkout was 9pm for 2 properties that I frequent.

Good point. It’s not a ‘right’ as such, LCO is governed by hotel property policies and is subject availability (of course).

All said I have not had any issues and at Logan I have received both early and late departure.

I see LCO in the same light as seat UG’s that go to the shiny cards first when available

I'm new to the Hilton Honors program but am enjoying building up the points.
I have 2 questions.
1. Does membership of Honors automatically entitle me to the "Executive Lounge"?
2. If I book on the QF website for a Hilton stay, does that earn Honours points, or do I need to book direct on the Hilton website?
Thanks in anticipation
Alan

1. Executive Lounge access is for Executive booking or Diamond members. Sometimes with an upgrade Gold members will get lounge access.
2. Normally it needs to be via the HH website only though occasionally third party bookings will get credits.

The lounge is often quite a decent addition, hence not being free.
It gives breakfast, all day soft drinks tea coffe and malt some biscuits, space, and usually evening canapés (or even full meal) and alcohol for free (USA can vary). It’s not caviar and champers level but can be a nice space and worth an extra few bucks sometimes.
Tbh I mostly don’t use them as I have small kids, or prefer decent/local food out, and don’t really drink.
Pre-kids and in nicer lounges we’d have some coughtails and plan out our next day before heading for food.
YMMV but diamond can be worth getting if it’s in reach, for free lounges. Usually with Hilton gold is the sweet spot though- breakfast and sometimes upgrades without guaranteeing lounge.

There are a couple of options on the QF website for suites with lounge access - guess its a matter of deciding on the lounge, if I book with QF, or hilton points if I book direct. The prices are about the same either way.

If prices are the same then you need to judge -
Will you make Hilton status with some stays or spend this year?
What are the Hh points worth
What are the qf points worth?
To help you judge, 0.4c USD per HH point is probably a fair rate to use
