Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Customer Service was not very pro-active: "Sorry, but no offers as at this time".

Just ask them to cancel the card, they will take you seriously then. If they don't bite just tell them just before they click the button to stop - you've changed your mind.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

On a positive note you're one step closer to getting Diamond status with Hilton Hotels.

nightelves, not sure if this was for me, but I will have my HHonors Diamond until I fall back to Gold from 1st April. I find the difference between Gold and Diamond to be marginal anyway. In any case, my Amex Charge card has a HHonors Gold benefit now, so I may well end up dropping the Macquarie card unless I can get some sort of incentive to keep it.

Thanks. I will probably pay off the outstanding balance and have a crack at it.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Ahh their business card is missing this.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

You can always apply for the Platinum card as well :)

Another $1.2k a year? Me think not - I'll stick with HHonours :)

Application submitted this afternoon! Veda score is average so fingers crossed. Had to upload payslips which is usually a good sign that I haven't been instantly declined. Ms Alex will also apply for this one. after $4k spend we will have two our nights in Maldives w/ free breakfast and bottle of wine on arrival (which I'd assume should be a given when you spend that much regardless of any status)!

I opened a Macquarie savings account and deposited a significant amount of money before I did my application. I hope this has an effect on my application and financial capacity. I must admit - their UI is pretty awesome, second to ING from what I've seen in a desktop/mobile app, if they had a better savings rate I'd use them as my main bank.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Apparently I got declined for the card, despite having been "conditionally approved"

I was knocked back twice for this card, before being approved on the 3rd attempt (over a 2-3 year period). On that final application, I dropped my annual income figure significantly and increased the living, etc, costs above what they actually were. I did this after reading on another AFF thread that this sort of thing may work. The idea was to look more like someone who may not be able to pay off the card in full each month. However, I had also opened a cash management account with (the minimum required) $5,000.I won't ever really know which of these, if any, worked though.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I got knocked back as well. Tempted to ask for a manual review as I'm not entirely sure why I was declined. Do you have a reference to the thread about dropping the annual income and increase the living expenses?

Not off hand, but I'd say that it's in one of the Similar Threads, below. If I can find it, I'll post.

Also, in my case, a written request for a review only produced a response along the lines of their " ..... credit policy", or something just as vague. A follow-up phone call achieved nothing additional.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I called on monday wanting to cancel the card and hopefelly have them return the annual fee and they called me back on thursday. They halfed the annual fee and said that the $0 annual fee was for the first year only.

My anniversary date was in feb.

Just ask them to cancel the card, they will take you seriously then. If they don't bite just tell them just before they click the button to stop - you've changed your mind.

Can anyone suggest who to talk to regarding cancellation? I guess they have a Cancellations/Retention team. Or is it just the regular 1300 150 300 number that deals with this?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Was going to say post on their Facebook. Then I realised - 700 fans and no posts or message function. https://www.facebook.com/MacquarieBank/

Are these guys for real? I have a feeling they don't really even deal with personal finances that much. Nevertheless they do own Sydney airport and half of the toll roads around Sydney :)

I was also worried about the annual fee so I called them and asked for them to send me an email stating that there is no annual fee for the life of the card. I now have the email to confirm so it's a keeper for me

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

For this $0 annual fee for life deal, the terms say "offer is limited to new applicants only." I am currently a Jetstar MasterCard cardholder, does it mean I am not eligible for this offer? Or new applicants refer specifically to the HHonors plat card only?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Well, I spoke with customer support, again, today, advising that I wished to cancel the card. The offer to keep was a 50% reduction in the annual fee when it falls due, soon .... and, I've accepted. So, definitely not fee free for me.

Although I probably should have pushed harder, I actually like this card for some reason (maybe because it took me 3 attempts to get it, over 2-3 years :p).

I'll see what happens over the next 12 months.

Edit: Customer support has also offered a 2.99% balance transfer on the card, if I wish to take it up.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I got rejected after manual review - I then complained and said I want to close my savings and txn accounts (that I setup the day before). The phone staff told me they will escalate for review again given my circumstances. My SO's application is still yet to be decided. If I get declined again - I will ask for a review of my income figures, at which point I will essentially double my expenses and highlight it was an error during application, this is given feedback from a few members. I think Macquarie is looking for debt where people will pay interest, they aren't looking for people putting money through card and not paying interest.
