Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I understand you can no longer earn points using this card for ATO payments but will the spend contribute to the $40K target for diamond status?

I would like to know too ;)

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

What are the likelihood of Macquarie waiving the annual fee? Anyone had any success. This card is definitely a keeper.

My anniversary date is towards the end of next month, and I will cancel if they don't waive (or at least discount) the annual fee - will report back in due course.

excellent. Thanks

Just got off the phone with Macquarie Card Services, and I am happy to report that I got the annual fee waived!

The phone call took a while, as the rep launched into a lengthy spiel about the benefits of the card and the Hhonors program more generally, but I stuck to my guns and made it clear that having already gained Diamond Status the $299 annual fee wouldn't provide much value to me. So happy to keep the card for another year, and get another 'reward weekend night certificate' (for having spent $12,000 in the current anniversary year), though will cancel in 12 months time if another fee waiver is not forthcoming.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Just got an email about the Hilton HHonors Macquarie Platinum Card, and "Pay $0 annual fee when you are approved by 30 September 2016[SUP]1[/SUP]." Anyone know if it's only waiving first year annual fee or waving annual fee all together? It says nothing in the fine prints..

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

How does the points system work? Do points work for Bpay payments?

The OzBargain ad says no fee for life. I will have to call up and see if existing customers can get this. Anyone else going to try?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Once you qualify for the free night after the minimum spend, do you need to wait for a physical voucher? Or is it added to your account electronically and available immediately?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

From the web page: "Please allow six (6) to eight (8) weeks after purchase requirements have been met to receive your certificate. A weekend night certificate will be sent to the email address provided in your HHonors account."

I received an emailed Reward Certificate once meeting the minimum spend:

Is it for life? The way I read it, it doesn't say for life. Hope I'm wrong.

^ Offer is limited to new applicants only. Primary or additional cardholder annual fees may be introduced or varied in future.

I just rang Macquarie and spoke to the Account Management Team. I am informed that the card is not free for life but first year only.

Let us know how you go. ..

No, they would not waive the fee for me, even for one year.
Worth a try, only took half an hour or so.

Seems pretty misleading when they say

"$0 ANNUAL FEE

Take advantage of our limited time offer and pay $0 annual fee when you apply and are approved by 30 September 2016^. That's an annual saving of $295."

"Annual saving" gave me the impression that it is more than first year only.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I don't disagree. I have however always found Mac Bank difficult to deal with.

Assuming that I'm approved, I'll be pretty disappointed if it's only one year, as I agree that it's misleading.

I did see the line that fees may be introduced before applying but if it's only one year, that should have been stated in that manner.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

The wording is quite misleading. An ordinary person reading it would assume it is free for the life of the card. I can only but imagine many unhappy people when they are charged the annual fee after the first year and then go on to IDR/EDR to have it wiaved or card cancelled. If it is first year waive only then it should say free for first year only.

Absolutely it should.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Grammer is such a tricky thing. It is certainly misleading I'd say:

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I would probably say "$0 annual fee for the first year". If that is what they meant.:)
