Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I have received a sign up offer.

Pretty much the same as already mentioned. But $99 for the first year ($295 ongoing).

For the $99 you get:
  • Gold Status
  • 20,000 HH points after first eligible purchase
  • One reward weekend night certificate if $2,000 spent on eligible purchases within 3 months

It seems like a reasonable deal to me for $99, if I can cancel after one year.

Was the offer targeted? If not, are you able to share a link?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Not very tightly targeted, I got it and really not sure why!

Yes. I'm not sure either. A gold to blue transition perhaps?

But is it good value and can you opt out without penalty after the 1st year?

looks like good value. Is there an option to upgrade to Diamond after spending Soooo much on the card??

Yes there is. But it's not cheap!

UPGRADE TO HHONORS DIAMOND STATUS[SUP]11[/SUP]
when you spend $40,000 or more on eligible purchases[SUP]3[/SUP] a year.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

DC3, I also recently made an application for this card, and was rejected. I was looking at an alternative hotel program having just achieved LTG with SPG & this card seemed a very reasonable step into HHonors.

I think I was requesting for a $10,000 limit. No recent credit card applications (within the last 3 years) and perfect payment history. Seven figure income, to boot. I do have significant gearing with investment and margin loans, but all within very conservative tolerances, and have substantial equity to back it up.

I was gob-smacked to receive the letter saying I didn't meet their "minimum requirements". Anyways, I eventually saw the funny side of that, and simply moved on.

So following on from my rejection last year, I've sat on my hands for the last 9 months, and re-applied. I've off-loaded debt in that time; otherwise much the same as previous.

On this occasion I did not request a specific credit limit, leaving it in their hands. I was only asked to provide a pay-slip, rather than previous request for ATO summaries etc, which included my business income from private practice etc.

A positive outcome this time - happily accepted in to the fold with a $20,000 limit. Not sure what made the difference out of more reasonable perceived income, less gearing, no requested credit limit, or Macquarie are seeking customers.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I take it you got this offer via email? If so, was it part of a newsletter/offers type email from Hilton or from another source?

I'm interested in taking up the offer, so if I'd be grateful if you could share the link (via PM if you'd prefer not to post it).

It was an email from [email protected] with the title:

HHonors Gold status and 20,000 HHonors Bonus Points with the Hilton HHonors Macquarie Platinum Card

But is seems to be targeted so I don't think a link can be shared. :(

You made it easier for them. Having a low taxable income on your Assessment Notices would have confused the simple souls in credit assessment. I had the same problem when I applied (when they first came out) and After I got nowhere, had my accountant ring a more senior person who FINALLY got it ;). Card issued shortly thereafter.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Is there a way to find out how much one has spent on the card over the previous 12 months (other than adding up the spend on each statement?). Want to know how close I am to some of the generous benefits...

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Do you think it's possible to get this card and the Black card that has 40k Qantas points on offer? Do you know how long you get platinum status with Hilton for? I'm assuming it's 1 year.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

[SUP]12[/SUP] If, during any anniversary year of your Account (which commences either on the date your Account was opened or on the anniversary of the date your Account was opened), you spend at least $40,000 on eligible purchases on your Hilton HHonors Macquarie Platinum Card, you will be upgraded to Hilton HHonors Diamond status. You will retain Diamond status for the anniversary year in which it was earned through to the end of the following anniversary year. Thereafter, in order to maintain Diamond status, you must meet the annual qualifying purchase requirements during an anniversary year with your Hilton HHonors Macquarie Platinum Card or meet the standard requirements outlined in the Hilton HHonors Program at HHonors.com/Terms. Allow four (4) to six (6) weeks from completion of purchase requirements for your status to be upgraded. For more information on Gold or Diamond status, please visit HHonors.com/MemberBenefits

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

So essentially you can get two years as a Hilton Platinum if you were to obtain the status at the beginning next year.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Yep, that's what the terms and conditions indicate. In my case, I reached the required spend in April and my 'anniversary year' ends in August, suggesting I will keep Diamond status till August next year. However, my HH Diamond card was issued with a March 2018 expiry date - remains to be seen just how long my upgraded status lasts.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I waited til I dropped back from Hilton Diamond to Gold on April 1st 2016...then within a week, I put 40K on the card, having to reload the card twice as my credit limit was not high enough....within 2 days of the 40K spend registering on the card, I was back to Hilton Diamond with an expiry date of 31 March 2018 :)

My understanding is that your Diamond is valid for the remainder of the year it is achieved, the following year, and til 31 March the 3rd year :). So anytime from Jan 1st would be a good time to whack 40K on the card ASAP!

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

So when you put 40k of you own money onto the card it counts as spend? What happens if you need that money again?

No you need to spend the 40K! As my credit limit is 15K, and I spent 3 x $13.5K, I needed to reload the card twice.
