Hilton Honors Macquarie Platinum Card

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Fair enough agree status benefits without serving the qualifying accommodation first are worth giving up some other more "valuable" earn for.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Out of interest, how are you valuing the points and diamond status such that it is worth spending 40K on this card vs some others (such at citi signature, fee free?). After the first 2k I don't think I can make the maths work.
Think of it this way....I can overpay the ATO by $40000 at 0.42% which equates to $168 (less than 1 night at most Hiltons, and you get a free night anyway when you hit $12K spend) for Diamond status for up to 2 years, + 40000 Hilton pts as a bonus:idea:

If you have the 40k spare, then this isn't bad value. And I can see that some might just like the status. I'm getting close to double diamond on BP anyway this year, so it's a moot point for me, but the same amount of ATO overpayment on a 1:1 card for SQ would net at least $1200 in value at 1c per point.

It's just the opportunity cost and everyone's personal valuations that interest me. Not a card I will need for a while, but great to see other's uses for it.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I cancelled my card yesterday as I am Diamond and I really don't see the value in just getting the free night for the annual fee price.
My +1 just applied for the card today - very handy if we stay multiple nights at the same hotel as it makes it much easier for me to retain Diamond on stays (one stay for me, one for +1, one for me...)
I have also found we are usually able to stay in the same room/suite I received on arrival ;).

As mentioned above the current promo offers a free weekend night when you spend $2000 in the first 3 months then another when you spend $12,000 in the first year so very useful.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

My first free night paid for the Hilton Auckland, a room booked for the AFF bash on 7 March.
Cash price for the room is over $1,100.00  so I think I got good value.

Given how many QFF and Citi points I hold, spending $40k on the HHonors card seems like a no brainer for me.
Based on the earn of $1 = 1.5 QFF points I can see how that is worth $1,200.00 or more for say a J return ADL-SYD but then I don't think a J return is actually worth that much for what you get. Yes, there are other perhaps better options for spending 60K points.

Much happier for SWMBO and I to get upgraded to a nice room, lounge access, breakfast etc for the next 2 years..... and use the bank of points I already have to get there.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

To me it is not a $$$ value. I/we would like to achieve Diamond (which you keep for 2 years) and enjoy some of the benefits it brings. Just be nice to have it once. YMMV.

After I have spent $40K I shall just park the card and play with Citi and ANZ Black.

we've got the same plan, except I'll be stockpiling points to go back to Venice Millano Stucky again next year.... and then park the card

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Hi guys,

I've booked and stayed in hilton for 7 nights before realising there is this hhonors program let alone this card. Does anyone know if I could get to silver without booking the rooms via their website?

I kinda want to get diamond status now after reading through this thread.

I've emailed them asking the same question but I don't know how long it will take for them to reply..

Your post is a little unclear but are you asking whether you can achieve elite status with Hilton by booking your stays through third party websites, like Expedia? If so, the answer is no. You must book your stays directly with Hilton to earn elite status.

Sorry after re-reading what I have asked it was not very clear at all.

Yes I booked my stays on 3rd party sites, namely travelpony.

conrad tokyo is much cheaper on travelpony compared to booking with hilton directly...

We're in the wrong thread but, no, you will not get elite credit.

Try doing a best rate guarantee for the stay.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Does anyone remember how long it took to be updated to Gold status after providing Macquarie with your hhonors member number?

Macquarie will tell you it happens as soon as you are approved for the card but I had to ring them to get the status upgrade. The lovely operator said it usually took 4-6 weeks. I'd ring them

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

In my case it happened within days which was great as I had an upcoming booking.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

hmm that is strange as I have received my first coupon for a free nights stay but I haven't been upgraded to gold yet...

No issues other than it's amongst the worst sites I've ever used.

I had the same issue when I activated my card last week and tried to access it online via http://www.macquarie.com.au/macquarieonline, I rang them a couple of times, nothing helpful.
later I found out I can actually access my account via http://macquarie.com.au/mycards.
Give it a try?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

An update on my experience. The 40K signup bonus didn't post automatically after the deadline was up. I ended up calling customer service twice, but no one could tell me what was wrong. I even got transferred to some dispute resolution specialist. On the third occasion, I said if I didn't see my points within a week or two, I would be going to the ombudsman. On that very day a few hours later, I got a nice phone call from someone based in Australia who said that she got referred to my case and was willing to help and act as my responsible contact. In the end, it took her another two weeks before the issue was finally resolved as she too had to escalate the issue internally. So I was happy in the end.
