An update on my experience. The 40K signup bonus didn't post automatically after the deadline was up. I ended up calling customer service twice, but no one could tell me what was wrong. I even got transferred to some dispute resolution specialist. On the third occasion, I said if I didn't see my points within a week or two, I would be going to the ombudsman. On that very day a few hours later, I got a nice phone call from someone based in Australia who said that she got referred to my case and was willing to help and act as my responsible contact. In the end, it took her another two weeks before the issue was finally resolved as she too had to escalate the issue internally. So I was happy in the end.

Funnily enough they get charged if the complaint goes to FOS (regardless of outcome) so the threat that you will frequently leads to action!

I'm potentially interested and trying to understand this card. So if you put $40 k per year of ATO spend per year on it, you would buy diamond HH status for
-$295 plus
- the ATO fee plus
- the opportunity cost of buying say $40000 QF points for say 0.48 c each if you used another card instead

For someone with a lot of ATO spend who can no longer use Westpac Altitude black or WWEDR card and is up against the CBA Diamond annual points cap, maybe it's worth it ???

I have been thinking about this myself
Given the weekend certificates you would earn and the sign on points, you more than cover the cost of the card.
Its the opportunity cost compared with say putting 40K through a card that earns 1KF point per $.
An SQ J reward Australia to Asia is 46,750 points and about $300.
Depends on your circumstances.

I don't recall a 2K & 12K spend for 2 nights. I spent 12K and got one night.

spend 2k within the first 3 months, still on the site now. I take it has been over 3 months for you now? or maybe you received the one night free as part of the 3 month 2k bonus thing and you will get another night free some time soon?

As a bonus offer, earn an additional reward weekend night certificate when you spend $2,000 in the first three months7.

I spent $12K in about 2 or 3 weeks and a free night certificate landed in my inbox. Used it to book a room for the upcoming AKL dinner. The only other offer is a free night on each anniversary which for me makes the card good value.

In my case it happened within days which was great as I had an upcoming booking.

How did you tell you status got upgraded? From Hilton website? If that's the case, is your new expiry date set to be Mar 2016?
I am currently a Gold, so I can't tell if the status had been applied to my account.

I only found out when I logged into my account. My understanding is that I keep Diamond for current year plus one.

No availability of a standard room for the next 3 months, by which time the certificate expires.

Looking ahead over the next few weeks, the Hilton website shows King Hilton Guestroom Plus (is that the basic room?) availability in Sydney on Friday nights for 13 and 20 March, and 3, 10 and 17th April. Saturday nights will always be more difficult.

Edit: Saturday 11 and 18 April look okay as well. Do the Reward Certificate redemptions book into the same rooms that are available for purchase? If not, then that would be rather nasty.

Just read this on a certificate "... Reward Certificate applies to the room rate and tax of one standard room at a participating hotel and as further provided on theCertificate. A "Standard room" is as defined by the hotel ... "

I've never tried Sydney but also have never had an issue with a certificate. (I thought they were valid for 12 months)

Oh, no. No, no, no. The lofty heights of a Plus room gets you dispoable slippers and a bathrobe. With upgraded amenities like that I'm flabbergasted these rooms aren't sold out the minute they go on sale!

Yes, it seems that the King Hilton Guestroom Plus is not the standard room at Hilton Sydney, after all. It looks as though the standard room is the King Hilton Guestroom and is definitely in short supply.

They are probably being filled by (Singapore) airline crew every day (and pre-booked months ahead by the airline).

Luckily had a trip to Brisbane coming up and used the certificate there with no problems.
Anyone wanting to book the Sydney Hilton using the free night certificate best to plan way ahead.
