Is there a way to find out how much one has spent on the card over the previous 12 months (other than adding up the spend on each statement?). Want to know how close I am to some of the generous benefits...

I phoned up a couple of years ago and they worked out how much the total spend to date was quite quickly.

Maybe this is how I got back to HH Gold (meeting the spend limit for Gold) - I thought it was my request through VA (as a Gold there). How will ever know...but happy I'm HH Gold regardless.

What spend limit? This card gives you gold just for having it?

I'll admit to being rusty on this - you are indeed correct . So why did I drop to HH Silver 2 years ago (I've had the Macquarie card since it came out)...first world problems

Same here but they seemed a little annoyed at having to do it. Have since kept count in excel.

It's actually a lot more and I'm not sure if the lady on the phone as pulling my leg or not. But the Hilton Times Square if booked for this year's NYE which happens to fall on Saturday and Sunday is worth close to $1.5K.

When I rang them up they said the standard room is available. If you have the Macquarie Platinum you get two weekend nights. Makes for an amazing NYE that's for sure. The T&C only mentioned subject to availability and excludes some hotels which the Time Square wasn't on the exclusion list.

As long as they let you redeem a standard room (the cost in points ends in exact thousands i.e. 80,000) then you can use your free night certificate to redeem that night, except the small number of all inclusive resort or unique property listed.

Just to clarify this card actually gives you 3 weekend night if I'm reading the T&C correctly.
1 upon application being success and making a purchase
2 spend $2k within 3 months of activation to get a second one
3 spend a total of $12k for the preceding year on the anniversary of the card

The third night certificate arrives after the yearly fee is paid so that is now year 2.

What are the likelihood of Macquarie waiving the annual fee? Anyone had any success. This card is definitely a keeper.

My anniversary date is towards the end of next month, and I will cancel if they don't waive (or at least discount) the annual fee - will report back in due course.

I understand you can no longer earn points using this card for ATO payments but will the spend contribute to the $40K target for diamond status?
