Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

both me and the missus applied for this card today so fingers crossed.

mine came up as conditionally approved pending payslip, my wife came up as submitted pending payslip

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

that is not correct....if you can find a room bookable with standard points, you can then book that room with the certificate eg I booked a room at Conrad Koh Samui this year with the certificate when I could see the room available for 80K pts....don''t forget it is only available for Fri, Sat or Sun night :)

That's interesting. When I rang to book a night I was told i have to find a 50k room. I guess HUACA needs to come into play again.

Do you know if the call is being picked-up in the USA? It shouldn't really matter, but in my experience it does. They seem to know what they are talking about.

The base (entry level) room needs to be available at the hotel on the night that you are interested in. The points shouldn't come into it.

Edit: From the Hilton website (they use the term "standard room"):

HOW TO REDEEM YOUR HHONORS REWARD
All Rewards are subject to certain restrictions. The Reward Certificate is valid for one complimentary night for a standard room at participating hotels worldwide, subject to availability.

The Reward Certificate Numbers will be sent via email. Accommodations must be reserved prior to Reward redemption.

To make a Hotel Reward Certificate reservation, from the U.S. and Canada, call 1-800-HHONORS. Outside the U.S. and Canada, call your local Hilton Reservations and Customer Care office. Advise the reservations agent at the time that you will be using a HHonors Reward Certificate and provide the agent with the Reward Certificate ID. Failure to follow this procedure may result in cancellation of reservations, denial of accommodations or payment of the best available rate in effect at the time of your stay. Accommodations are subject to the participating hotel’s availability of standard rooms at the time of reservation request.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Called today to check and it was approved Friday last week, as I live in Perth my card should arrive sometime in Q4 this year. Pretty happy as I'm looking to redeem at Conrad Hong Kong for a trip next year. Saving me $450

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

If it had I certainly wouldn't be posting on an open forum about it and I definitely wouldn't call MAQ or Hilton about it.

Might be worth you editing your post and removing this from any prying eyes so someone doesn't look too closely at any cards/HHonors accounts.

If you stay quiet enough/plead ignorance it just might stick.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Seriously considering this card now, I am HH Gold now but won't make it next year and could be handy.

I have also have perhaps 15 nights at Hilton coming up over Christmas so the points earn could be helpful.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Yes, I'm in much the same boat .. or will be. I'll be Diamond next year due to some fortuitous circumstances, but after that I'll likely never make even Gold again as I'm spreading myself between HH and IHG these days.

But as for reaping points via the card. I'm really unsure I'll ever use the card for even a single transaction. Its really not very interesting to me from an earn point of view at 1HH/$ Its the same reason that I cant bring myself to convert Amex MR points to HH at 1:1 ... to me, HH points are only worth 0.5c each at best and cards like the Amex VA Plat grant 3p/$ on accommodation, so the difference is stark. Even a general purchase on a bank MC or Visa is likely to earn 0.5 airline p/$, and airline points are worth something like 2-3c each.

I'm always looking for more HH points, never seem to have enough, but their conversion rate is so horrible I just cant bring myself to do it :)

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

It would seem people on OzBargain are convinced this is fee free for life (again)?

Has anyone noticed that the new offer for this card is not just fee free (potentially for life) but also comes with TWO weekend night certificates instead of one for sign-up AS WELL as each year when meeting the minimum spent? That's insane value and I am really miffed that I got approved for the previous offer with just 1 cert and now the include 2 certs ongoing. Or am I reading this wrong:

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

As far as I am aware it has always been a 2nd certificate on your 1st anniversary (and each year after) if you have spent $12k in the previous year.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Maybe it's meant to mean you get one cert on after spending 2k in first 3 months and another for spending 12k for 2 total.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I agree, my reading is the same deal as before 1 for 'welcome' on eligible $2k spend and one on next anniversary if you've made the eligible $12k spend.
I've got the black but they won't let me transfer without a new application (unusually sounds like Amex's usual policy), tempted to apply now esp as I want to use the certificate at Conrad Maldives. Might just take the Veda hit.
How long has it taken other members to receive their welcome certificate after hitting the $2k spend? Assuming. Has to come by snail mail or is it electronic?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I received mine within a couple of days. It was via email from HHonors.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Has any HHonors Gold member been upgraded to Diamond after spending $2k?

Don't remind me, I was going to cancel this card so I could get the Amex Explorer.. but now! :)

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I believe it's 2 points per dollar on accomodation, not 3.
