The HGI at Bali Airport, at which I’ve stayed twice for 5,000 points per night, certainly exceeded my expectations.
And I. For 5000pts, I checked in mid afternoon and checked out that evening for a late night flight. Nicer sitting around the pool with drinks and snacks than waiting excessively at the airport as you don't have to leave much time to get there. Nice staff even gave me a room upgrade.

I value HHonors points at US$0.04 each. So, pretty much spot on. Others may value them differently.

Although it depends on when/where you plan to use them.

Are you missing a decimal point? I value them at 0.4c (USc) or $0.004USD each.

Received an email from HH today.."just for you" so I presume widely targeted,
100% more points when purchased before Sep 20th. and annual purchase limit increased from 80,000points to 160,000 points.
Couldn't copy the email, so did a test run, copy below. I find booking rooms using points CAN be good value when there are no sales on

Number of Points: 100,000 Points

Bonus Points: 100,000 Bonus Points

Total Points: 200,000 Points

Cost of Points: $1,000.00 USD
Hmm worth buying now? Anyone biting the bullet?

Things are opening up domestically anyway. Though the AUD has tanked a bit last couple of days

with the stronger AUD, anyone tempted to buy 160k+160k points? for 1600USD?
To be honest, not really.

Buying points is worth it to redeem at really pricey hotels which at the moment are a) quite cheap due to rona or b) inaccessible due to the travel ban.

When buying points its best to have an immediate redemption in mind and I can’t see one in Aus that’s worth $0.0066 per point.

E.g Surfers Paradise for 5 nights the last week of Jan 2021.

Cash: $1,207
Points: 188,000 (incl. 5th night free) = $1,253

Just on time! Doing my first stay for 2021 tonight :)

Anyone get the 80% bonus offer when buying points yesterday? I did the sums as we have a Hilton stay in Munich next year but even with the 80% bonus it doesn't seem to make sense - or maybe I've messed up the calculation?
We can book a semi-flex rate at $247 AUD/night or 63,000 points.
I have a bit over 5,000 points so would need to buy about 58,000
Buying 32,000 points would net me 57,600 with the bonus and enough to book but this would cost $320 USD.
Is Hilton Honors just really bad value?

If there’s an 80% offer it’s the first time it’s ever been that low! They’ve had regular and lately near-perpetual 100% offers since I can remember.
It’s highly valuable for their highest end/most expensive places. Let Kyoto, Waldorf and Conrad Maldives etc

My offer was a 100% bonus. To answer your question: it depends. There are definitely situations where buying points to pay for your room is cheaper but most of the time that isn't the case. If you are a gold or diamond and you need a few more points to book a 5 night points stay (which has the 5th night free) this can be a good deal depending on the hotel, the cash rate, and the amounts of points they are charging.

Mine‘s 100%. The max i can purchase is 149,000 + 149,000 bonus for USD$1,490.

The current AUD-USD exchange rate doesn’t help at the moment.

It’s pretty bad value when buying points.
It’s really good value if you actually stay at Hilton hotels. There’s always some kind of bonus points on that yields (in my experience) 15-20% of your stay in points.

The bonus offers are obviously handy if you’re a little short of points. Especially if you’re getting 5th night free. Paying in $Oz, there’s probably an FOREX point where it becomes better value. $0.65 is not it…

I just redeemed points for a night at the West hotel, Sydney, because the $ rate was far beyond the norm, but the points remained the same. I was 2000 points short of the redemption amount, so I looked up points + pay and compared it to purchasing points separately. At $15 vs $20, points + pay was a no brainer, particularly as it also saved me the extra step of purchasing points separately. I honestly don’t understand how they come up with the pricing.

100% bonus offer but max of 80k + 80k for US$800.

IHG offer today was 100% and 150k + 150k! for US$1500.

Best value? Discuss.
