Re: HHonors Promotions

I didnt pay with the mastercard credit card that was on file but on checkin swapped the room hold to go on my partners visa debit card using the credit button. To make things confusing I always pay with cash on checkout to save the 1.5%.

Hmmm. I doubt I could do this as the Hilton and DT stays I have until end of January don't bother taking a room hold (I think because I stay there frequently).

That would be Cairns and I beleive it is for all Diamonds.

Re: HHonors Promotions

Looks like a 40% off APAC sale is starting on the 7th.

They've accidentally released details on the DT Fiji page:
Exclusive Offers: DoubleTree

I don't really need to stay at a Hilton in the next couple of months but this and the Amex offer are making it difficult to turn down

Re: HHonors Promotions

The offer is listed under the offers page for the Australian hotels I checked. DT Melbourne: Exclusive Offers: DoubleTree
I have a tentative plan to book the DT Melbourne in late November, but every time I look at prices, they seem to have increased. In fact an increase from yesterday to today of 36% for the nights I want.
Hopefully, I will see a tempting decrease on the 7th. Or I might have to stay elsewhere.
But where?

Re: HHonors Promotions

I am so pissed that I paid basically 100,000KRW per night ($110 roughly) because I booked a prepaid "flash sale" that occurred in April 2016. And to make matters worse it was for 2 rooms so that is $220 per night over 3 nights.

I was sure it was during a 40% off flash sale too.. BAHH!

can someone please tell me if $2100HKD per night @ conrad hongkong is worth risking prepaid? before service/tax charges.

Re: HHonors Promotions

If booking on pre-paid (non-cancellable) rates, it's never a good idea to go back and re-check the rates, later. It will probably end in disappointment. :(

Edit: I just book a rate that I'm reasonably happy with. Almost never pre-paid, and keep monitoring the rates for a drop.

Re: HHonors Promotions

Interesting trick, I'll try to book with Visa hopefully will trigger the bonus before using my AMEX at checkout.

Did this work? I had a couple of stays in Bali which were prepaid with a mastercard. Gave a visa for the hold but didn't get the 5000 bonus. Didn't have any charges though. I ate one ice cream in the hope of racking up a charge but was told the amount was too small to pay by credit card :(

Hoping to get both the amex cash back and 5000 bonus for one night in the Hilton Sydney.

Checked in with Visa this week at Hilton and DT MEL then checked out with AMEX. On both occasions didn't get the 5K bonus :( Have few stays next week in Tokyo, will try again and hope for better results.

Re: HHonors Promotions

Hmm maybe I will try split payment, a little on the Visa and the rest on the Amex and I'll see if that triggers the 5000 points.
