Hilton properties in Kuala Lumpur

As in North of the railway station, or over it?

North West of the station, google maps is horribly out of date in terms of its sat images, as I mentioned the Hilton is in front of you as you walk through the train turnstiles, but there are shops in the way and you need to go up 20 feet to street level, follow the signs is easier enough or hang a right, go outside and up the stairs for a slightly shorter version, either way its a 5 minute walk then a lift to the doors of loyalty choice:

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

The actual LRT fare on the card is MYR2 to Ampang Park, when leaving the station take the escalators closest to the ticket office on your left, once upstairs its a short walk to the overpass escalators leading you to the DT, all covered.
Thanks for the directions and the photos. Now I have no excuse to get lost. :)

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Another tip is to get the MyRapid card at Sentrals LRT ticket booth, its MYR20 with MYR10 of value on the card and is a lot quicker than the single use tokens, which cannot be bought days in advance (same day use). The monorail is fun but crowded compared to the LRT, buses, LRT and monorail all use myrapid (and quicker then Myki).

Is there any system that is not quicker than MYKI?

Currently sitting on the KLIA ekspress. Flew domestic JHB to KUL and was a struggle to find the terminal to get on the train. Basically two sets of lifts and only one takes you to the terminal.

That said, confirmed upgrade to a Grand executive suite at Hilton KL. Quite happy with that. 100% upgrade success rate at this hotel. I stay here around 8 times a year.

Yes was there over the weekend and they are fantastic with their upgrades, 100% success over the 6 visits this yr.

Decided to extend my stay in KL and moved to DT just to try it out. I have to say the room is nothing compared to Hilton KL. It lacks the grand feel that Hilton KL offers, though I must admit the location is very good. I think I will still prefer Hilton KL over DT.

That's quite the mattress run cgoh!

Does look like a mattress run but I'm travelling between Singapore and KL weekly and sometimes twice weekly. I prefer the Hilton KL but I usually bus down to Singapore and the bus that I take is just a 5 min walk from Double tree, that explains why every Sunday night I'm at double tree.

OT, but what is the bus like between? Any visa requirements for Malaysia? I've been toying with a KL side trip from SIN en route to MLE and the bus might be a bit of fun (might not to). Perhaps might add, my +1 and I are both European looking Aussies. We don't look even remotely Asian. I once though of taking the train to KL but when I saw the station I changed my mind .

There are many choices for buses (ranging from budget to First class coach). I always take Aeroline (www.aeroline.com.my or .sg) and their service is superb. Total trip time is around 5 hours of course traffic dependent. Ticket is roughly 30AUD each way. I much prefer taking the bus than flying as I can spend the commuting time working (if you get a prepaid sim it cost RM5 for the pack and RM3 for one day access with 200 mb). I regularly see foreigners on the bus so don't be concerned about that. Only thing is I suggest packing light as you will need to get on and off twice for immigration clearance both in Singapore and Malaysia. Both countries are VISA exempt for Australian passport holder.

The flight is very quick, simple and cheap, and with SIN airport so efficient, you really don't lose much time in the transit. I've done the flight quite a few times, as has Markis10 (on more carriers too), but MH business is sometimes quite cheap for some SCs if you need them. Or you can pricematch 3K with Tiger and get amazingly cheap flights with QF lounge access.

Haven't done the bus before, but I just hate long bus trips!

My lowest price this year was $7.80 thanks to Tiger, normally around $40-50 though.

I know this will sound very firstworldish, but part the appeal of a bus (or train....no comment on that one?) is that on a bus you can look out and appreciate the scenery. I get a bit over looking out a plane window and seeing clouds..........they all look the same to me! ;)

Mind you, I also dislike long bus journeys so is there a happy medium? I love driving, but I have the feeling that may not be possible/wise/practical? Although I drive a lot in PNG with the associated bush knife attacks from time to time on the vehicle, but that was not with my wife and kid(s) in tow! Big difference.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I wouldn't bother driving. Once it took me over 2 hours for a 5km drive in KL. Having a GPS wouldn't help as well as road closure/ repairs can happen anytime of the day.

Also, mind u there isn't much scenery to see, pretty much just trees. I take the bus solely because I hate short flights.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I am sitting at a window in the 33rd floor lounge, where "coughtails" have just finished (goes currently from 5:30pm-7:30pm).

Firstly I confused the left-right bit and ended up following the Hilton/Le Meridian signs as per post #47, I can understand there is an issue with the pedestrian crossing as there was a Polis there to stop traffic in case the red light was ignored.

I did cheat a little - managed to get on a flight two hours earlier¹; pressure was off and was checking in at 5:30pm.;)

Thanks to all who provided input. :D

¹ Which has its own penance- my return booking is currently showing as unticketed - may have to visit the new office as per Major's post #37.:-|

Also the but touch'n'go card that has broader uses (eg. On the heavy rail line and some carparks). Office in Sentral behind food court.

Crazy that there are two systems and not much info about them for tourists.
I went this way as can use on KLIA Ekspres/Transit. I found the office hard to locate - it is the "Touch 'n Go HUB" in the hall one can check luggage for KTM(B) services.

Card cost is MYR10 + balance load. Min CC purchase and load is RMB110 all up, need cash for less.

There's currently a 10% discount on using the touch'n'go for KLIA "Transit" (Not Ekspres) saving MYR3.50.

I asked for a 2pm check out and was given 3pm ("Because you are Diamond")...

Turn Left/Turn Right? Intersting....
Just 'cause I could, I navigated the "left turn" early this afternoon - ok with no luggage but those steps in post #42 should be considered by those toting bags.

The DT keeps getting better and better, firstly the food court is still there in the basement including my favourite chicken rice for $2
...
Gave the MYR6 chicken-rice a go - great value.
...
Its a good lunch option, however there is now a supermarket with its own food court, as well as selling alcohol, which explains the stickers on the mini bar beer. Do your self a favor and check it out, even if you are not after some ...
...
I mentioned recently that the Yering seemed to be in a smaller bottle as it seems to go quickly, is Malaysia they even call it it little!
...
The supermarket and its food court are open 10AM to 10PM.
[-]And you can pay for that 'little' yering or other items with your "touch'n'go" card. Seems to be a KL version of HKG's Octopus[/-] Reload only.

Went the ekspres anyway as more frequent and quicker - any MR3.50 saving notwithstanding.
