Thanks to a generous AFFer, I am staying at the HKG Gold Coast Hotel/resort Friday and Saturday nights.

Happy to get out and about on Saturday if anyone wants to meet up. Although I would ask that a separate thread be started if there is interest.

Sorry, been off the forum for a few months, just busy with other stuff.

I'm in HK from 8th

Flying out on QF128 20:15 on 12/6 HKG-SYD

Colour me Platinum

Looks like I need to be in HKG that weekend! I've never been to an AFF gathering before, would be keen to have the opportunity to meet many of you, and love the idea of a lounge crawl, but...

While I am VA plat and *A gold, I've got no oneworld status at all unfortunately. Am I right in reading that you will be doing a crawl of OW lounges only, and so there's not much point in attempting to join in my situation?

It's pretty much OW lounges only, plus may be the EK lounge for those flying out on QF. If you get yourself a OW ticket outbound from HKG on that day, I'm sure someone can guest you in.

I'm hoping the recently announced caterer change in most Asian CX lounges won't affect this. Seeing The Peninsula being turfed and replaced with Plaza Premium (they already cater the Arrival and Bridge) doesn't inspire my confidence.

It all comes down to how much CX is willing to pay PP. PP is a fine caterer in its own right if they're given the budget to do so. The Pen isn't quite related to the hotel either, it's mostly a separate catering company in the group and decided to use the name mostly for marketing purposes. Only concern I have is that CX has been welding an axe to anything that has a cost attached in recent times.

There are certainly enough QF WP to get you access, i am happy to guest you in.

Calm down... No fighting for guests please. :)
Better than the other way around.

Cryptacadian, as long as you have a OW ticket booked departing that evening, you will be fine. If it is on QF you will also be able to visit the EK lounge. Otherwise you will be able to slum it with those who are on AOWABQ* :)

I wouldn't worry too much - the catering at The Wing F has steadily declined to a level where anything would be an improvement

I just heard from those who went to the Pier during the transition period. Expect at least half an hour wait for food, and it probably isn't going to be what you ordered. CX is aware of the issues but I'm not sure if they have any plans to fix it.

Hopefully in the next couple of months they will. Otherwise there will be a stream of DYKWIAs getting very grumpy. ;)

Never had an issue; my favourite lounge and second favourite lounge a la carte, anywhere. It's been open quite a while now, so experiences way back probably not too relevant to now.

The food at the buffet is still very good. Love the roast pork/lamb/beef. Just what the doctor ordered before/after 2 week trip in Asia.

Reading the thread on Flyertalk now, every visit to the Pier this week has been disastrous. Also, the Cabin is partially closed for renovations until July.

Thanks for the offers for guesting, mickeyc747 and greenfish – much appreciated!

I'll look at getting a QF flight (or AOWABQ failing that ;)) out of HKG late in the day, rather than my usual route home on SQ. I haven't worked out exactly what each tier corresponds to yet for AFF event attendance, but consider me interested!

Please colour me Platinum. :) first time to an AFF event.

Booked J redemption on AA miles before devaluation - CX137 HKG-PER for 12/6 then QF642 to SYD the next day. haven't booked flight to HkG yet. Most likely arriving on 7/6.

i don't have status, so would be very grateful if I can be guested in by some kind WPs. :)

I don't see guesting as an issue looking forward to meeting you
