HKG new lounge open

It is opposite Gate 15

But not at all well signed. I eventually found it by going up a different escalator and going in through the back door of the QF lounge. Luckily I knew to go upstairs from this forum otherwise I don't think I would ever have found it.

The sign at the top of escalator for the now closed J lounge helpfully says the J lounge is closed but does not point one in the direction of the new lounge!

Basically, go to gate 15, look opposite and up, and there it is. Now, to actually get there...

Hi All...

While I admire the intent, the new lounge is a bit of a fail!

I visited the new HKG lounge on Monday evening.... It was SMASHED... literally overflowing with people... not a spare seat to be had... all the QF flights were getting ready to depart to AUS so that explains it... Why people feel compelled to put thier bags on spare seats really annoys me and quite frankly is just inconsiderate! I know it happens everywhere but I felt it was more pronounced on my visit...

The food was... meh... and was being absolutely pillaged by people, the staff could not keep up replenishing. Cook to order?

The Phantom Dim Sum trolley was... well... phantom... Not that I believe that the contents would have been edible....

The much heralded Char Sui was hanging behind the bar counter looking like dried out boot leather... eugh!

So I skipped out to The Bridge (my CX flight was relocated to Gate 67) where it was very peaceful, lots of seating options and the food was plentiful as were the G & Ts!

Just can't work out why QF creates these good looking lounges at overseas ports where they scale back their air services! Sure they must get some revenue from their alliance partner visitors... but would it be that much?

Meanwhile the flagship Business Lounge at SYD looks tired and worn - although for a while the food was great! Last week the food was an embarrassment for my early morning CX flight to HKG.

BTW - if you like polished concrete floors the new QF lounge will float your boat. The white slimline flat panel sound system speakers are fabulous... anyone know what brand they are? I would love some for my house! :)

Ooh Roo

I was wondering that last week when I visited the lounge for the first time... but at 3pm. There were only three people in the entire lounge (service was good!) and I guessed at the time it must have been built so big to either (a) make it not seem so crowded at peak times or (b) because it needed to be that big to fit everyone in at peak times.

It seems the answer is (b).

The salted caramel cheesecake was yummy (although the portion sizes were a bit stingy). The bar knew how to mix a drink. But I wasn't blown away by the other food. Thankfully there was no pizza. Or party pies.

The lounge looks great but it's not intimate.

Agreed, it's not at all intimate. In that respect, I preferred the old J lounge downstairs in the 'basement'.

oh no! That was suitable only for vamps waiting till the safety of sunset to board their flights!!

(didn't anyone notice there was no garlic on the menu?)

Funny that, I was there at the same time as you were. I thought it was rather quiet, although my judgement may have been clouded by the SIN zoo which I visit much more frequently. If anything, they didn't even get to use up the F/CL/WP1 reserved dining tables. Cook to order was a grilled barramundi and it was excellent. The char sui despite its looks is not bad, although if your stomach can only fit in one of those, definitely take the fish.

I definitely agree on the dim sum trolley though. Probably gone the same way as the PER and ADL international flights.

The polished concrete fits well in a sense, although with that space in HKG (similar to the Wing F), it's always going give a very cold feeling. Personally speaking, I actually prefer a more secluded and contained space that is warm and comfortable. This ultra modern and sophisticated style which QF is adapting doesn't quite float my boat but I'm sure others will have different opinions.

Departing EK in F this evening and had to argue my way in to the QF lounge which, in hindsight, I really shouldn't have bothered.
The gatekeeper seemed quite oblivious of the QF/EK partnership.
This was in stark contrast to the effusive welcome I was given last weekend with a CX BP.

Sorry to hear of this experience. I've passed it on to the lounge manager for their reference and internal review with the individual concerned.

Red Roo I have a suggestion. At Ataturk International airoirt the Turkish Airlines lounge offered clear perspex lockable cabinets to eliminate the bag on the seat!!!Brilliant. An excellent lounge for all sorts of reasons. QF please take note!!!

Thanks, but I'm really not wanting any trouble for the individual.
It seemed to me to be a training issue.

Have the opening hours extended to cater for the AA HKG-DFW service yet? I'm doing a Jetstar HKG-SIN flight that leaves at 2pm in a few weeks and was hoping I would have access.

AA will use plaza premium from what I have heard, no word on extending hours at the QF lounge - maybe if JQHK gets off the ground finally

I was at the new SIN lounge last night and I have to say that it poops all over the HKG lounge. SIN has a much nicer atmosphere, layout, lighting, everything TBH. How did they get HKG so wrong when they modelled it on the success in SIN?
