HKG new lounge open

I was thinking more a dedicated 'small section' within the same lounge set aside for F (and possibly WP). Similar concept to TG lounge in HKG.

Just moved to "The Pier" (love the noodle bar) and suprised to see a seperate "first class" section. But that appeared all that was special about it, it was just a seperate section of chairs that everyone could see into and some bowls of fruit.

This is temporary whilst the pier first class lounge is renovated.

No it's a personal taste matter. The perception is certainly the case. Perceptions matter in this flash in a pan world

I'm sorry but Champagne and Australian sparkling wine are in a completely different league IMO. No other airline in the world would dare serve up a sparkling Australian wine to a first class passenger, unless it was in addition to the usual suspects.

I was offered one plate of dim sum over the hour I was there, nothing else.

They have done a great job on the lounge as it looks great, service was pretty good, but no champagne and lack of food means I will go directly to the wing F lounge in future. Perhaps there was food, but you need a map to work out where to sit and when to get some.

Add this to some really average F service HKG-SYD which took 2 hours into an 8 hour flight to get a meal, I think I will contact customer care to provide my feedback tomorrow.

and let's not forget that this is a QF 'off base' lounge... just think about what 'BRANDED' Lounge offerings/options that all the other NON hong kong based airlines provide for its F/C (or even its J/C) pax

Judge away, however even in the old F lounge you could get a glass of champagne. So while you might like to drink from the QF cool-aid, there is a reduction in service for an F/WP pax. As for your suggestion, I can actually tell the difference from a Coldstream Hills sparkling as opposed to a Moët or Taittinger champagne. If you can't, you have my sympathies.

They also marketed table service and yum cha trolley service, which I can advise wasn't very comprehensive or frequent, and there was no menu that I could source. I was looking forward to trying it, but it was disappointing. I didn't get to the buffet as I had business to attend to.

It's unfortunate that I am unable to make a report on a product or service without being judged myself.

I agree totally. The new QF lounge in Hong Kong is pretty ordinary when it comes to service, food and cleanliness. The Wing F lounge far exceeds that of QF IMO

QF @ HKG would be better.

A more astute comparison should be QF @ HKG versus CX @ some other port which is a QF hub or home base, i.e. BNE, SYD or MEL (though SYD doesn't really apply as there is no CX operated lounge in SYD; ditto BNE).

That said, the CX lounge in MEL operates at a time where there are no QF flights, ensuring that one must use the CX lounge during this time or not have one to use at all. QF does not do the same thing in HKG.

Not anymore - the QF J lounge is open for all 3 CX flights now.

Agreed. I'm not an F pax or WP, but I saw no signs of the yum cha trolley or table service and I was sitting at a dining table as there was nowhere else to sit!

Ah, the phantom yum cha trolley. I was in the lounge for several hours recently and never saw it either!

I can't work out why they bother having a HKG lounge

I guess that they have done the sums and having one is cheaper* than paying whatever the other lounges feel like charging for guest access. Added to which it provides some QF branding in HKG as well.

*Based on no research whatsoever, but there must be a financial motive.
