I would be keen.

There was talk of getting a tour off the ground recently, but it unfortunately fell through.

Ok Guys, seems to be a reasonable level of interest and more Tassie based members here than i thought. Options are June during the Dark mof_ festival which runs from 7th June to 24th June. This would give more activities beyond the proposed gin/whiskey/beer/wine tour for visitors. One negative of this is the high occupancy and sometimes elevated room prices. Otherwise we can look at July or August. Can we get a vote on which month would suit best and we can work on dates after that starting point.
June (Dark mof_) Y or N
July Y or N
August Y or N

Cheers, and help from other locals will be great.

Subject to final dates but July and August are currently pretty free with advanced notice

July or August for me would be best.

Excellent find, Steady :). For those not familiar, Wrest Point is abt 10 mins drive out of the CBD. However, it suffered some substantial damage to it's restaurant and entertaining areas in the recent Hobart weather event. If that would be an important part of your stay, check with the hotel to see what facilities will be open.

What is your plan Tassieoptom?

Hire a mini van or bus to transport everyone?
A few days with a group dinner somewhere?
Have you worked out a draft itinerary yet - Maybe a blend of gin, wine and whiskey each day, or one type one day and another the next?
Is there an ideal / minimum / maximum number of attendees?
Approximate cost?

From what I can see there is solid interest in the concept, as someone who is not a Hobart local it would be nice to know a bit more detail

Hi Steady,

Will work on a plan of itinerary tomorrow, today was spent adopting a second dog. Transport is debatable, Happy to arrange a mini van like we did last year for the mini wine tour. Or if smaller totals can arrange a smaller vehicle option. I would like to consider a Saturday/ Sunday option if that would be appreciated by any mainland AFF’s that way we could do a blended tour on both days with a group dinner on the Saturday night. Would perhaps be more appealing than a single day. There are things we could do in Hobart on one of the days with easy transport of Taxis and Uber’s, with perhaps a mini van on the other day with greater Hobart trip including distileries, historic estates and Mt Field, ( for example) I will work on a full weekend program that people can partake in all or half the activities. Numbers only become important wrt hiring a vehicle, but in light of the mini wine trip last year we should assume the final numbers to be less than estimated. With a local or two we can always carpool any extras beyond a mini van. If anyone has any requests contrary to this can you comment tonight and I will consider that for my proposed itinerary tomorrow. Cheers

In respect of lessons of the mini wine tour of last year, I suggest that any payments (eg for bus hire) be taken up beforehand, as is done with the SA wine tours. Then, if someone is a last minute withdrawal, the others aren't penalised by having to absorb the extra cost. Buzz will get back to us re his system in a day or so.

Also, the interstate guests will probably want depart Sunday afternoon in time to reach the major capitals, could I suggest that an itinerary end in time for people to get onto planes, say, by 3 or 4pm. Edit: or even the intra-staters :)

Numbers also come into play when visiting the various establishments. When I was arranging the mini wine tour, many of the places I contacted didn't like >10 in a group (some had a 7 group max); above that they were talking about 'hosted special arrangements' at a higher per person tasting cost.

Sorry if it might have seemed like I was laying low but my various alerts for the forum haven't been kicking in (again) so have missed quite a bit of action, I've reset them so it should see more responses from me now. I'm a bit bogged down with various projects but would be very happy to meet up for a group dinner down here in Hobart if the tour goes ahead, pretty flexible about the month but August would be better for me if it is popular...
