How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Yes, I cannot believe how everyone knew our name too! It was 'Mr & Mrs Fifa' this and 'Mr & Mrs Fifa' that from so many different staff.
The hotel exceeded my expectations - the grounds are magnificent, heaps of choices for breakfast (you can even have a roast!), fresh fruit replenished in the room daily, great poolside service, huge beach towels... the list goes on.

Our next stay is for four days and I can't wait.

Lovely property.. Enjoy..

Oh the memories..

Received: King exec room

Two bottles of water and welcome note from GM. I was in the room when the turndown service arrived, which I declined, and was rewarded with slightly more than the usual 2x chockies.

Only 1 level upgrade, as they were out of suites for upgrades ;(

Met up with johnself in the lounge where we debated the merits or otherwise of a continual consumption of fried food.

I trod on a small (and pointy) screw in the shower. Ouch. I handed it over to the desk attendant on the way to breakfast, and then heard nothing more! At breakfast I asked for a latte in a mug, and got a glass; asked for a large omelette, and got a small one. It seems the attention to detail and staff pride are still a bit thin on the ground. HOTP remains my preferred MEL stay.

Footnote: The dining in the exec lounge has been toned down a bit - gone is the roped off section and the tablecloths. The menu is also more clearly priced.

Its one of my favourite hotels worldwide that one. I'm going to try out the new Doubletree in Sukhumvit in a couple of weeks though, and shortly thereafter the new Hilton also in Sukhumvit. Will still do some time at the Millennium though, its just such a great hotel/location.

Can you please let me know how you go. I am going to bkk in November and am currently sitting on bookings for both the new Doubletree and the new Hilton...but wondering if I should go back to the old faithful Millenium. Decisions, decisions....

My pleasure. I'll be at DT BKK early June for just under a week. I know its a refurb hotel, not new, but am hoping its been well done. The location might prove to be better than the Millennium, we'll see. Will report back.

Always nice to get the upgrade but can't help but think I'd rather a normal room at HSW than the suite here - quite dated time for a refurb. No water or letter so will proceed to the minibar waters

The bathrooms have been refurbed nicely but the work desk, stationary and chair seriously lacking/dated and in dire need of an upgrade for those that need to work whilst away.

Very cool that we've hit 1000 posts on this thread!

I'm now thinking about the age-old discussion topic that's a favourite on this thread: HSW or HOP? For a stay on 12th July (it's a JQ F lounge run), I'm looking at $236 HSW (after HM disc: $188.80) vs $179 HOP (after HM disc: $143.20). Is my favoured HSW worth the extra $45 or should I try my luck and see if I end up with something as good as simongr does at HOP? Maybe it's time to give HOP a try, given I never have tried it before this.

Having stayed plenty of times at both, I would not recommend HOP, unless you can get a suite with view of the MCG and a room far away from the terribly noisy elevators. Last time I was there some Japanese businessmen enjoyed recreating the Melbourne cup on their desk chairs down the hall way at 12am. I confronted them first, to achieve 10 minutes of quiet. 30 minutes later a call to front desk was in order. Little was done. Come 2am with earplugs in, I was awoken by the cleaning staff next door, who when confronted, told me it was 'absolutely necessary to be cleaning the room at that time, including scrubbing the glasses in the bathroom sink - last time I drink from those things. The walls are paper-thin in the HOP. IMHumbleO, avoid at all costs.

Wow.. Tom Waterhouse would have set up a betting syndicate on that one if he was in house..

Well received at reception. Free wifi. 2 H2O bottles in room. Lounge drinks and continental breakfast.

Property: Hilton Minneapolis Downtown - Marquette Avenue South
Date: 30 April - 8 May (9 nights)

Booked: Standard King
Received: No upgrade for first 3 nights, then moved to 25th floor (Executive Level) upon my prompt. Placed in corner room with terrible insulation (freezing, coz it snowed for 4 nights) across from janitors closet which experience high traffic and much slamming until 11pm and from 5am every day.
Rate: $191.65 USD incl. tax

Positively disregarded at reception. Anyone can use the HILTON HONORS ONLY red carpet line - and they do. Wifi didn't work with HH log in - had to go back down and request 'freebie' code. Day after day, after day; for the entire stay.
No water, no fruit. Got charged $1 for a local 30 second phone call. Went to Exec Lounge with manned bar. Asked for a glass of the terribly cheap looking Pinot (it was that or an equally rough Zinfandel). Then got asked how I wanted to settle the $8.50 bar tab. Which landed on my bill when I checked out.... like a p.ssy I paid it.

Despite being a 'guarded' Exec Lounge, people (kids) would wait outside until someone left and walk in - it was unmanned often - they then proceeded to take 3-4 of the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and sit on the one dilapidated PC and access FaceBook for an hour, exclaiming 'OMG! I can't believe she's f.cking him!'
Breakfast only available in the lounge and it was your choice of molasses soaked pastries or Oscar Meyer sandwich meat.
Sent a few packages to concierge/bell hop/mail receiving who when asked if they could go out back to find acted like I had asked them to shift planets.

At least the cleaning staff made a couple of nice towel swans in my room.... that was the sole highlight of my stay. I'll be looking for the Hyatt next time I pass through Minnesota.

Previously, I have had nothing but great experiences with my HH Gold.
This was the first time I have received such dismal service and experienced such a poor standard of hospitality. Hopefully it will be my last.

Finally! After what would be probably my 20th or so stay here, I finally bagged the suite
 I walked into the room and thought housekeeping had left the connecting door open accidentally.. so took a peak and realised I was in the suite. Nice to have the extra space.

Yep. I think this is my 3rd or so suite upgrade in the space of a month. Interesting that as I renew HH Gold through BIB (rather than a c/c comp) the upgrades seem to be getting better.

Tryin: Hilton status doesn't mean much in the states as it is so easily achieved with all the credit card promotions over there. Paid for booze and meagre upgrades the norm.

Great upgrade and loved the room - we stepped out of our room, onto our patio and straight into the pool.
Staff are fantastic - always happy and extremely helpful with nothing being too much trouble.
Our friends who are Gold received the same upgrade (I notified the hotel in advance that we were travelling together) however it was only us who received exec lounge access. The staff kindly allowed us to take our afternoon tea and evening drinks and canapes in the East Lobby Lounge (instead of the exec lounge) so we could be together.

We'll be going back in a few days and are looking forward to it.

I'm HH Diamond, I just booked 7 nights at this property for September in a Deluxe Lagoon Suite. I have stayed in them before and I loved it but I was not Diamond then, I wonder if I will receive an upgrade this time…..

Agreed johnself. However, it was the $8.50 for a cruddy glass of red cordial mixed with glycerine with no appellation control that really got me. At the very least domestic beer and cheap wine should be free. Infact, I am happy with a couple of bottles of water in the room and a few pieces of fruit. On a grateful note, we do have it pretty good down under. It's nice to be home.

Mr Jojen & I are currently staying at the Hilton Financial District. We booked an entry level room and received a room with city view on the 19th floor with access to the executive lounge.

Both Hilton Gold members.

Executive lounge only has seating for 50 guests and does get quite busy at time especially for breakfast.
Evening snacks are quite good with a selection of 2 hot items, usually something fried , a good selection of cheese ,crudités ,and fruit.

Drinks are on an honour bar system, glass of wine $7.00 with spirits also available.

NOW FOR THE GOOD PART !!!!!!

You are allowed to bring a bottle of wine in here and the staff will even open it for you if it has a cork !!!!

We only found out after we had paid for a glass, and after a trip to the Napa Valley we have a few bottles to enjoy !!!!!

Have been quite impressed with the level of service at this hotel.

I stay at this hotel 1-2 a month and they usually reserve a room on the 16th floor as they know I love to be close to the lounge :)
Been upgraded to the king suite on 18th floor a few times in the past but I found it to be very dated and wasn't impressed by the shower/jacuzzi 2 in 1 (so 80's).
The junior suites are nice and modern.

The lounge is nice and usually not very busy. Food is ok altho I would expect them to have a better verity of wines
been so close the best wine regions.

Breakfast at the restaurant is good. I never found it too overcrowded and the chef prepares my eggs benedict the way I like. The Vittoria coffee is also very good.
