This afternoon (about 2:00pm) I made a booking for HSW for tomorrow night (Monday 11th) that I may or may not yet use.

It is already showing as a '2 BEDROOM SUITE CITY VIEW'

That's quick.

My favourite! Good win!

(except the bath is tiny)

Considering that 3 people* can fit in the bath in a HotP relaxation suite, it is not an unreasonable expectation.

*allegedly.

I agree. My three kids when they were younger, used to bath together all the time. Admittedly, not in a HotP relaxation suite! ;)
Must try that one some day. Are the other two to share, options? Like the coffee, $5 per person?

Was this your first stay? I thought you'd been before.

First stay at any Hilton QLD ... other things to do and places to go, coupled with reports of pretty ordinary status treatment I just never got up there.

Discos? Now how old are you ;)......nightclubs I believe is the term.

hahaha!

Old enough that when I went out when young we still called them Disco's :)

In this case, there were enough reflective surfaces on display that I still think 'disco' might apply hehe

Highest floor I've stayed on is 49th and I can confirm you don't hear the "partaying my man" from up there although I sleep through anything, so that does not bother me in the least.

*nod* and thanks. I figured this would be the case.

The lounge offering you describe is the new improved version. The old version was really something to whine about and I'm a bit put out that you got at least M&Ms....I've never had them (that I can recall....admittedly M&Ms don't rate highly amongst my most memorable lounge food)

I don't actually expect a lot when in Australia, but even given low expectations I was disappointed with the lounge here.

To the best of my knowledge, Hilton was always going to be a Hilton, but only partly. I'm guessing that the Hotel building (Orchid Tower) was always to be the Hilton Hotel and residences, but the shorter (Boulevard Tower) was to be permanent accommodation.

Ahh ...ok.

Most agree the hotel itself lacks just about everything that sets a quality hotel apart from the masses and the financial strife that plagued the project possibly contributed to that in a big way. I have no idea what the designers were thinking, but something tells me the designers possibly never actually finished the design. Blind Freddie can see many changes that, if made early on in the project, could have made the HSP one of the best Hiltons in Australasia..........but one has to ask if that was really what Hilton wanted. They seem to have excelled in creating possibly the most ordinary Hilton in Australasia.

hehe. Hard to really disagree. "the most ordinary Hilton in Australasia". I didn't find a lot that _really_ irked me, but you're right ... it felt ordinary.

Price/performance wise I was happy, but I'd probably have a different view if I'd paid the asking rate at certain times of the year when the $$ go steeply skywards.

Agreed - I was on the 47th floor last time and no noise whatsoever.

But then again I live in the middle of Kings Cross in Sydney (8 floors up). While my apartment is reasonably sound proof when closed up probably makes me less sensitive to noise :)

When you stand back (a few suburbs) the HSP is actually architecturally stunning. I personally believe it to be possibly the best example of modern building design on the Gold Coast (Oracle perhaps tops it). It's very much in that UAE "out of the box" style that personally I like a lot. Come in close though and it goes rapidly downhill. High Street is disappointing (especially if you compare it to the similar Oracle Blvd). The rooms are unimaginative. The services are overwhelmed and underwhelming. The foyer is a disgrace. The pool area is boring and perpetually cold. All of which is why I assume HSP architects must have been reeled in following the financial strife. A pity really. I genuinely think HSP had a chance to be truly great but given the times (building smack on the GFC) I guess we should be happy it was finished at all!

IME noise levels at HSP vary with the day of the week. Have stayed on a tuesday night and no problem at all, but on a Friday and Saturday the deep bass notes from those discos was very noticeable through until around 3.00 am. Earplugs in.

More generally I gave up on HSP a while back. If I actually have to be in SP itself for some reason stay at the QT, otherwise either Peppers or Sofitel at Broadbeach.

I stayed Wed through Mon night almost a week later, so missed the tuesday, certainly the deep bass was coming through till after 4am on FRI/SAT/SUN nights, and although I was only semi conscious I think it was at least around 2am other nights I was there.

As I said in my post on this stay, I was on the 13th floor (out of 15 for hotel rooms), the noise must be unbearable on the lower levels ... I think the hotel rooms start at floor 3 or 4??

Status: Diamond
Property: HOTP
Booked: Twin single
Rate: $199
Received: Relaxation suite

This about my sixth stay and my first upgrade. Well, the Relaxation Suite is certainly a big step up from the more 'standard' hotel-type rooms at HOTP. Very nice indeed. I guess a little dark though - why did HOTP go with such a faux-wood dark fit out? Don't they know most of their guests will be from sunny Sydney or other northerly climes? Anyway, at least no sign of the 'air-bar' minibar in this suite. That's a big bath no doubt about it, although three would be a ...squeeze. Hadn't ever noticed before but a sign in the Exec Lounge announces a multitude of spirits available 'on request'.

Hilton Mohrenstrasse Berlin it's nice room with Cathedral room view. Sometimes I have had bigger room but not this time. Because of status executive lounge is great value !!!

When did HSW start emailing letters pre-check in?
Not stayed there since last year and will be there next weekend.
Just got an email from Exec lounge regarding hours etc and checking in there on arrival.

Painless checkin, soy in the fridge, lounge up to its usual standard, with an attendant I had not met before.

Breakfast was also as good as usual, and when I ordered my coffee there was no hint of a charge - during service or when checking out. Well done HotP!
