How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

the people are great,

Actually, I found the staff to be "Meh" as well. I know others on here have had a totally different experience but for us, the staff did the bare minimum and not a thing more.......given their circumstances though, I wasn't that worried by it as I do understand keeping up morale may be difficult when they're not entirely sure of their immediate future. I was told though, that all staff have been guaranteed their positions, rates and conditions by Accor.

For us, the EL staff did their basic jobs (no offer of assistance for anything except when advising they will be closing), the room cleaners basically made the beds and that was it. In fact, I noticed a black plastic fork on the floor in the corridor that sat there for the whole three days. Clearly noticable and every cleaner on that floor would have seen it and left it. The turn down service consisted of pulling the blinds. No turn down as such. The cook at breakfast outright lied to my daughter when she asked for waffles. I saw him make them up both before and after she asked but he told her they didn't do waffles (yet she had them two days earlier). The valets were odd. We used the valet parking for each of the three days and each time I stood waiting for them to take my keys to the point I had to go up and interupt their chatting to each other. This was not a one off, but every time. When we first arrived, I was left standing there wondering what they were waiting for as there were no others being attended to, they were just chatting. When I decided to break up their little tête-à-tête, they asked if I was "right" with my luggage or if I wanted a hand????? No, I'm sorry to say the staff at HoTP barely did their jobs, although I do realise YMMV.

I think that's normal? I booked a room for 3 (and paid a premium of roughly 33%) at HSW a year or so ago (HH Diamond) and there was a $40ish charge on the room bill for one extra guest in the lounge. I thought at the time that it was rather poor form to charge for a paid hotel guest, but it's technically correct.

The way I read it at HH OTP was that I could have a guest off the street as it were at no charge.

As to your example, I would argue that you have already paid for an extra guest in your room, so why should you pay for lounge access for them. I thought lounge access covered everyone in that room.

I'm also at HOTP. We are coming to the end of a 7 night stay and were upgraded from a base king to a relaxation suite. I have to say that that is the first time that has occurred on anything longer than a two night stay anywhere. The place seems far from full which is no doubt a factor in it leaving the chain. Clearly the hotel is dated though some like this. I enjoyed the bathrooms and the spaciousness of the suite. Staff have been okay but nobody stands out as going the extra mile. I have liked breakfast in the lounge each morning. It was never busy and always peaceful. I like the area - it is great for walking/jogging and we have had dinner at three good restaurants - Persillade, Il Duca and Geppatto which are all within 100 metres further along Wellington Parade . I have had the fish and chips from the room service lunch menu twice and on both occasions it was promptly delivered and excellent eating. Evening drinks have been okay and they do produce big scotches when they get to know you! As I'm in the process of moving to Melbourne and this is the interim base it won't be a disadvantage to me when it leaves the Hilton family but I am sure many people will miss it.

I just re-read my post from this morning and it sounded very much like a DYKWIA WP ;). What you wrote was far closer to what I meant. I honestly had no real issues with the staff. They did their job (except for the fork in the hallway).

We too had a nice evening out (all within walking distance...albeit a decent walk) which included Chin Chin for dinner (why anyone would be idiotic enough to wait for a feed is beyond me), The Duke of Wellington for some Friday evening Melbourne after-work atmosphere and the Transit Rooftop bar in federation Square for a chill out (chill out it bloody was too, thank God for heaters). I'd suggest nobody go to MEL without at least one night out.

Ordered room service after being snubbed by world leader at get together, caviar very average. Valet for cavalcade very slow, Russia Hotel knows how to park 40 limos in two minutes pfft. Hotel did not recognise my status, gave biggest mirror to 1st lady from Mexico. Checkout slow, claimed I did not tell them I was leaving early. Laundry - did not use, saved shirts by not wearing them, also went commando .

Dont think I will be back.

Arrived a bit later in the evening than expected as flight from MEL was delayed. Girl at check-in was apologetic that we had just missed the lounge and would we like a complimentary bottle of wine sent to the room. Would we ever!!! :) Asked what we wanted (cold sav blanc please) and 5 mins later there it was. 2 glasses, ice bucket and a very nice bottle of Bay of Stones Sav Blanc. No idea if that is any good or not but tastes good after a long day at the office and then a stressful drive to the airport where we thought we were going to miss our flight due to the horrendous traffic on the Tulla. But the Gods smiled at us and our plane was delayed so we made it.
Only stayed here once before but I think its quite a nice Hilton.

Cheers

Good of them to offer the wine. Bay of Stones is what is served in the lounge.

Nice touch!

I've also found H-BNE to be good at recognising little issues and dealing with them. I checked in once and the room was not quite ready. The front desk lady apologised and then escorted us to the lobby bar and directed the bar tender that our drinks would be complimentary until the room was ready. Was only on our first drink when she returned to advise us our room was now ready. How much better than that can you get?

AHH, Now You're making me regret giving BNE Hilton a miss this weekend, although the prices were ridiculously high which is why I didn't book it. (about $460 for a base room)

The high tea is excellent, and you can re-order more of whatever you liked, plus free flow non-alcoholic drinks like smoothies etc.

coughtail hour has canapés, again served to you but refills of whatever you would like, and real coughtails on free flow, like my current Manhattan.

Oh- and I've been asked what suite type I would prefer for my next stay here...

Hitting the Conrad Bali in December for 4 night before heading to Surabaya and looking forward to seeing some of the diamond action as you have noted....any other tips ...do's / don'ts would be greatly appreciated.

I have always held next to no desire to visit Bali. I wonder if it's worth going to the hotel and staying put? ;)

We put our visiting clients up at the Hilton BNE pretty regularly and if it is going to turn into one of those 'BIG' nights we grab a room or two also and H.H. recognition is always very good.
It was our son's 21st earlier this year and we decided to have a special close family and friends celebration there in the private dinning room next to the restaurant. Everything was outstanding, the service / food / drink all bang on. The private dining room is 'free' based on a minimum spend ( it's not that high surprisingly ) and is a great area for a client event / thank you - lunch and presentation, or just a dam good party........it is also a very nice earner when you charge the whole 'shebang' back to your room. I think I'm going to request the 'Vladimir suite upgrade' next time and just sit around in it drinking vodka to soak up the 'vibe'.

I wondered which suite. I've only every had one in BNE and it was nice, but not overly large and I didn't think H-BNE had any "special" suites (larger more opulant). I could be wrong of course.

They knocked a part of the wall between the suite on level 25 and the room next to it to create an extra office space for him.
I thought it would be good marketing to keep the "Vladimir" suite for a while but the hotel managers obviously didn't think the same and the wall was quickly fixed. Now all suites are the same size again.

I checked in in the exec lounge at 1940 and was pleased to be upgraded to a suite. The lounge staff were keen to remind me that drinks and canapés were finishing at 2000. I said I would drop my bag into my room and be right back. They even asked if they could get a drink ready for me. I returned and enjoyed a beer and some nibbles. I have always found the food on offer inn the lounge to be quite good, Certainly enough for dinner.

I was told at 1955 the drinks were finishing and would I like another before they pack them away. I had another beer, and found that the few of us left after 2000 had no trouble having another drink. They seemed to be available for as long as the staff were around cleaning up.

With a strong force of will I stopped at four(!) and headed to bed. I had been travelling in one way or another for the last 48 hours so it was no surprise that I slept through breakfast. I had arranged a late check out, so was not bothered.

The suites are nice and spacious, much along the lines of the HotP with the sliding doors to separate the rooms.
