How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Hi. Could I ask for a little more about this property as I am about to book for a stay in April - as a Diamond. Is it central to the tourist sights? Did you get an airport transfer from/to NRT? Were the beds typically Asian (i.e. hard) or more like an Australian bed. I do not mind either way but good to know.

Thanks in advance.

Others have chimed in and given their views. As this thread is specific to how Hilton treats elites, I don't post reviews; however, check out my review on the relevant FlyerTalk thread here.

I did... thanks. I assume you wanted to leave the hotel at 0630 not 1830 hence the wish to check out the night before. I'll compare your reflections with those on Trip Adviser but appreciate your comments.

Property: Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, The Caledonian
Status: Gold
Room booked: Queen classic room (requested rollaway for Little Miss 8 when I received the concierge email 2wks prior to check in)
Rate: 50,000 HH points

1 night stay as the Doubletree booked out for this night.

New Year's Eve. In Edinburgh.

Received: King Junior Suite  (not on the castle side)
Rather sad we had to check out at 4:15 am!!!
Two small bottles of water, one still, one sparkling; 3 welcome drink vouchers for the bar (used in Peacock Alley as Little Miss couldn't go into the bar afer 5pm), due to the season & celebrations, we were given breakfast, but due to our early checkout did not use it.
NYE gift of 50mL whisky, two shortbreads, and wee bag of coal and salt in our room.
Trundle bed made up in the lounge room when we got there.

Lovely GM, by the sound of her voice from Canada, or she's spent some time there. She told us about their piper whp would be going through the whole hotel before the Hogmanay ball. We were able to see him arrive and come down the grand staircase to tje ball.

A question for anyone that frequented Parmelia Hilton. What are they like with their upgrades for diamond guests? Are they generous with suite upgrades or just one up from the room that is booked? Thanks in advance.

Parmelia disappoints me to be honest... i'm only lowly gold and never had an upgrade, there's no executive lounge but i've received 2 vouchers for a drink & tapas... rooms are starting to show their age... breakfasts are pretty good, great service but their $55/day valet is just downright appalling.

actually the more i think of it, it's the price that irritates me... rooms, food and valet are all overly expensive - even on company dime it still 5hits me pissing good money up the wall

Some recent stays this month:
Status: Diamond
Propery: Hilton Athene Palace Bucharest
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: Junior Suite
Great location in the heart of the city, staff all very kind, concierge very helpful with taxi bookings and make sure you pay the right price (taxi drivers often rip-off tourists in Bucharest. Executive lounge a bit small but good f&b, breakfast at the restaurant is highly recommended.
The Junior Suite was smaller then the usual Hilton standard and no diamond recognition except two small bottles of water.
All in all it's a good hotel, I would go back.

Status: Diamond
Property: Hilton Paris CDG
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: Executive Room Plus
Good location near the airport with easy access to the city by train but that's about all the good things I can say. Bad service, poor wifi, ordinary rooms, boring lounge, terrible breakfast. Unless the price will be significantly cheaper then other hotels in the area I won't be back.

Status: Diamond
Property: HSW
Booked: King City view (TravelZoo deal)
Received: King Executive room
I knew my 100% suite upgrade success rate will end at some point and indeed it had ended in the new year. Will be much harder to compete for upgrades with all the people who moved from HOTP.
The executive room was nice and modern with good views of the city. This type of room is actually perfect for one person, especially if that person is spending most of his time at the hotel in the lounge enjoying sushi and fresh prawns ;)
Two bottles of water in the room with two more added at evening turndown (plus the usual Lindt chocolates). Breakfast at the restaurant was excellent as usual and staff all very polite and attentive.

Your kidding? Taxi drivers in a foreign country will try to rip-off tourists/visitors? Who would have thought that?

OT YES - SARCASTIC YES - it's just one of those little foibles that an international visitor must endure in so many countries. Becoming more and more prevalent in China now - to such an extent around many of the major touristy spots in SH and BJ that is be coming a MAJOR PITA.

Property: DT MEL
Booked: King Guestroom with Historic Station view (TravelZoo deal)
Received: King Guestroom with Historic Station view
I managed to avoid the DT since it opened in Dec thanks to low rates at HOTP but now it was finally time to check it out. Self parking for $30 in the CBD with the option to exit by 11.59pm the day after is not a bad deal (Wilson car park is located short walk from the hotel next to Apple Store). The reception area was a bit messy with renovations still in place and check in desks are located in the bar, a bit weird. Only one computer worked and it created a queue for check in. The staff were very apologetic and gave everyone a warm cookie to have while waiting.
I was pleasantly surprised by the room, it was good size, clean, large balcony with great open views. The only thing I would change in the room is the TV location. It currently sits on the desk which makes it impossible to work while the TV is on.
I didn't expect evening turndown when returning to the room later that night. Bottle of water near the bed and two Lindt chocolates on the pillow, same as Hilton. The bed was comfortable enough with good choice of pillows.
Breakfast was in a temporary location on level 1. When I arrived there was no one to check the room number so I just entered and helped myself expecting someone to approach me at some point but no one ever came. Food selection was very poor. I could see there was more food earlier but no one bothered to come up and replace all the empty trays. I'm sure the breakfast will be better once the restaurant downstairs opens soon.
With some issues still need to be fixed I think it's a decent hotel and would go back if the rate is significantly cheaper then other hotels in the area (looks like this is the case in Feb). The location is great for me (less then 5 min walk to my office) and for anyone who wants to stay in the CBD.

At least in some major cities like Tokyo you can be sure that taxi drivers rip off everyone equally, tourists and locals alike ;)

Japanese taxis for short (2-3km) journeys aren't too bad - basically just the flagfall, but the airport is not a short distance away

Maybe it's because I'm from Perth, but I didn't find taxis that crazily expensive in Tokyo, Sapporo or Niseko.

A little O/T, but can anyone recommend a good price Hilton hotel in London that is good to HH diamonds. Main requirements are quiet ( I am a very light sleeper) and lounge access, at a reasonable price. Not asking a lot I know!! Thanks

My partner and I stayed here last month just before New Year's. We really liked it for the price. We booked a Queen Hilton Room and received a King Deluxe (I am Diamond) - when we checked in the staff were extremely apologetic that they were so full that they couldn't upgrade us to an executive room or suite (the hotel was genuinely so full it was bursting at the seams). The room was very comfortable - an excellent bathroom and what was very much more a 'firmish' Australian style bed than a a harder Japanese bed (we are sooks and like our beds extremely soft).

Lounge was great - excellent service during evening coughtail hour and good breaky in the lounge too.

We were talked into getting the limousine bus into the hotel from the airport (NRT) - by the JAL first class staff. Perhaps because we were a little bit drunk and it is simpler. We took the train back to the airport though (by then we were staying in Asakusa though and the train was a bit easier and about half the price).

Noting and agreeing with all the other responses here that tokyo is BIG, the Hilton was pretty good in that it was close to both the metro line and OEDO line (less than a block away) and easy walking distance to shinjuku station area. We walked all over from this hotel - to Shibuya, Roppongi, Harajuku... no problem. And the metro is so good you can get anywhere pretty easily. That said, Asakusa was a gorgeous area to stay in... much more atmospheric, at least over the New Year period.

have a great time!

Canary wharf or tower bridge

Property: Parmelia Hilton Perth
Booked: Queen Guestroom
Received: Queen Suite on Top Floor

I haven't visited this hotel for a long while. Quite impressed with the service, reminds me of the people at HotP. I had dinner at Adelphi for 2 nights. The lady that served me was extremely attentive, friendly and helpful with menu and recommendations. The newly renovated suite is really nice, loved the super comfy lounge chairs, only thing I would change is the bed - wished it was a real king instead of joined singles.

Canary Wharf in my opinion. Lounge bigger and more comfortable than the Hilton Bridge, better food and afternoon tea is very good. Breakfast and location better at the Bridge though.

Same as Serfty - been staying there since 2002 multiple times a year and was getting "standard" one room upgrades. Then as my frequency started to be a factor (still as Gold) and I started getting corner rooms and Suites. As a Diamond for the last 2 years, never failed to get Suite Upgrade - even have a favourite (Queen) Suite in my profile. Will let you know if I get it on Sun night (have 3 bookings over 5 nights).
